BOND, WHO’S BOND?

With ‘No Time to Die’ now finally out in the world, the question has gone back to just WHO will the next James Bond be?

The possibility of the next Bond being a woman inevitably raises it’s ugly head.
It’s never going to happen and I for one, don’t think it should!

Barbara Broccoli, movie producer and daughter of Albert R. Broccoli who was responsible for securing backing for and kick starting the films inspired by the popular James Bond novels written by Ian Flemming, has always stated that ‘James Bond will never be female’, which is reassuring.

So!! let’s weigh in with some of my own thoughts.
First things first.
Bond has to be British!! So that immediately rules out Adam Driver.
As much as I would LOVE to see him have a crack at Bond, it’s just not Adam and that kind of fame is not what Adam is after. It’s too much. He only just survived being Kylo Ren in the Star Wars movies……… except that Kylo Ren died…. but that’s not what I mean!! The Red carpets and all the attention made him very uncomfortable. The only good thing to come out of that experience was the ability to be able to do the kinds of films he actually ‘wants’ to do and be working constantly.

Right, if we’re going for rugged hard nuts like Daniel Craig then three actors stand out of the crowd for me.
Michael Fassbender, Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy.

My reasoning……..

1st, ….woof, woof and woof!
2nd, they all look stunning in a suit.
3rd, they have all got hard man roles already proven.
4th, they all appeal to both men and women.
5th, they all know how to seduce and smoulder, but they can also turn on the nasty when needed quite effectively.

Next we have a different class of actor choices in Richard Madden, Sam Heughan and Riz Ahmed.

Again. woof. woof and woof!
These three all have the potential to be more suave, more ‘Roger Moore’ than ‘Daniel Craig’ but at the same time will be able to seriously kick butt when needed.
Richard won a lot of hearts as The Bodyguard and this popularity could be harnessed for Bond.
Sam Heughan is ripe for the picking. He has proven his acting chops in the TV series Outlander but has yet to find his feet in a successful film.
Both Richard and Sam are Scottish, so they could be harking back to the days of Sean Connery.
Riz Ahmed is currently proving to be a bit of an all rounder and if given the chance, could bring something completely new to the character of Bond.

I’ve seen other names being mentioned occasionally but one name that gets surprisingly mentioned occasionally is Tom Holland!!

There has been talk about making Bond a lot younger and at just 25 years old, Tom Holland would be a great choice.
He’s adorable and already has leading man experience, however, I feel he is just a bit too young!!
James Bond is a Royal Naval Reserve Commander and you don’t make that rank at just 25 years of age.
Unless they are going to do a story that involves how James becomes 007 then I think Tom would be a very bad decision.

Anyway, after seeing ‘No Time to Die’ it remains to be seen if we’re even going to get a new Bond movie.
I’me very interested to see where it’s going to go.

GREY’S OR PEAKY?

I have just started re-watching Grey’s Anatomy from the start again and I’m really enjoying it.
I stopped watching the show around 5 seasons ago as life got a bit too busy and the last 2 years in particular have meant that I’ve fallen behind with a lot of shows.

However….

A show that I’ve never really watched at all is Peaky Blinders.
I don’t know why because, C’mon, Cillian Murphy AND Tom Hardy?

Again, life and uni studies in the way meant that I didn’t want to risk getting hooked on another show.

Anyway, today, I saw an article about Peaky Blinders and I find out that Sam Claflin in now in it too!! And there’s a cheeky appearance by Domhnall Gleeson’s brother Brian (even if he has got a Scottish accent instead of his native Irish!).

Now I’m torn between making my way through 15 seasons of Grey’s, half of which I’ve already seen in the past, or going for something completely fresh and new with Peaky Blinders.

Help!!
What would you do?

I LIKE THIS IDEA!

So apparantly, Tom Hardy has expressed an interest in playing Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’ on the big screen!

OH YES PLEASE!!

There have been a few movies in the past and in my opinion the Thomas Jane one was the best.

Punisher Thomas Jane

Although there will now be Punisher fans screaming NOOOOOO!
Forget the Dolph Lundgren one!!

Punisher all three
However, these movies never really made it big.

So, when I heard that Tom Hardy expressed an interest in a recent interview my heart skipped a beat!
With the recent Storming of cinemas by Marvel it would be the perfect time for someone to finally make a big budget Punisher!

OK OK, The Punisher is not your usual hero that kids can look up to.
WIKI states:
The Punisher is a vigilante who employs murder, kidnapping, extortion, coercion, threats of violence, and torture in his war on crime. Driven by the deaths of his wife and two children, who were killed by the mob during a shootout in New York City’s Central Park, the Punisher wages a one-man war on the mob and all criminals in general by using all manner of conventional war weaponry. His family’s killers were the first to be slain. A war veteran of the U.S. military, Frank Castle is a master of martial arts, stealth tactics, guerrilla warfare, and a wide variety of weapons.

How about a Marvel film just for the BIG kids!!!
Think about that description and I think that Tom Hardy would be perfect!!

Punisher Tom Hardy

Just saying!!

CHILD 44

There is a bit of a spoiler in this quick review so please don’t read on if you are planning to go and see the film!!

I won the argument with the hubby and we went to see Child 44.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa who also directed Safe House and Easy Money, so this man knows a thing or two about action and hand fights.
I’m so glad we did.
It’s a very dark and well paced drama/thriller.
Tom Hardy once again shows that he’s not just muscles and a pretty face, this man can seriously act!

However, my main reason for seeing this film was Joel Kinnaman.

571

I wasn’t disappointed.
His character, Vasili, starts out as a coward, becomes jealous and ruthless and is quite frankly a complete and total bastard.
He has a final showdown with Leo, Tom’s character, in another Daniel Espinosa viscous hand fight scene and it doesn’t end well for him!

There seems to be a theme with Daniel and his fight scenes with Joel in that they never end well for Joel!!

Definately one going onto my DVD list.

LET’S APPRECIATE WHAT’S COMING

As I sat here enjoying a coffee and contemplating college work the inevitable happened.
I started to trawl the internet.
I flicked through my FB account, scrolled through the nights Tumblings and ended up on Youtube.

I wanted to bring your attention to a few things that are on the horizon.
A couple of them not too far away.

The closest one being Child 44. Due for release next week.
Not only does this film star Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and Noomi Rapace but it also stars Joel Kinnaman!! alongside an old fellow castmate from Easy money, Fares Fares.
As stated on IMDB, this is a film based on the first of a trilogy by Tom Rob Smith and set in the Stalin era of the Soviet Union. The plot is about an idealistic pro-Stalin security officer who decides to investigate a series of child murders in a country where supposedly this sort of crime doesn’t exist. The state would not hear of the existence of a child murderer let alone a serial killer. He gets demoted and exiled but decides, with just the help of his wife, to continue pursuing the case.

The next is Avengers: Age of Ultron
Due out the week after Child 44 and a film I know is highly anticipated by many.
However, let’s take a moment to contemplate the following….
Forget Robert Downey Jr, forget Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, forget Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner….. let’s take a moment to appreciate that Paul Bettany finally gets to make an appearance.
He has been the voice of the faithful ‘Jarvis’ accompanying Iron Man on all his adventures and now, because of Ultron, he becomes ‘The Vision’
I for one, cannot wait to see Paul like this!

Paul Bettany 1

And finally, the cast read throughs have started for next year’s Suicide Suad.
DC’s attempt at keeping up with the Marvel Juggernaut.

Suicide Squad

With Will Smith attached to the project it should hopefully do quite well.
Oscar winner Jared Leto (although not in this photo) is also in it as The Joker, but if you look closely at the top left of the photo, you’ll see my man Joel Kinnaman with a nice big grin on his face!
He is playing Rick Flagg, who I believe may be the leader of the Squad.
We’ve got a bit of a wait for this one as it’s not due out until August next year.

And now, I really must get this college work done.

AN ODD SORT OF DAY

I woke up this morning to the start of my second week of annual leave.
I had a good tidy up and then relaxed a bit before the local paper’s photographer came over.
They turned up early!! just as I was getting changed and didn’t have time for any makeup and I’m pretty sure my curls were wild.

Will our photo make it to the local rag on Thursday?
Who knows, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Anyway, after that I had all good intentions of getting cracking with some ironing but after a trip to Mum’s to check on the fish I just couldn’t get going in that department and we ended up watching ‘This Means War’ with Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon.
That film just tickles me silly. I find myself chuckling all the way through and the three alternate endings just has me in hysterics!

Anyway, after that Ian was home and it was time for dinner.
While I did that I watched ‘Lola Versus’ with Greta Gerwig and Joel Kinnaman.
I don’t know why I torture myself with this movie.
It has it’s funny moments and of course it has Joel Kinnaman but Lola just drives me to distraction.
This is a woman who is reaching 30 but has done nothing with her life.
She even manages to scare Luke (Joel Kinnaman) away and make mistake after mistake before becoming happy with herself and then…….
Then she makes the biggest mistake of her life by rejecting Luke when he realises what a mistake he’s made by letting her go.
Hellooo!!
6 foot 4 of absolute cuteness and puppy dog eyes incarnate wants you to be his for life and you say……
‘I just need to do me for a while’.

WHAT AN IDIOT!

Anyway, time for some Star Trek…. Re-boot style.

THAT WEEK WENT FAST!!

I can’t believe I only have this weekend left and then my 9 days of annual leave are up!
Still… only 5 more weeks before I get two weeks off!

This week has been spent in the garden, particularly yesterday where my forehead got quite a roasting in the sun.
I hope it stops glowing before I go back to work on Monday!

Murron finished her exams.
The week went a lot better than I thought it would considering the panic attacks she’d had in the previous couple of weeks.
She only has an art project to finish now and then that’s it for school.
She can’t wait.

Marjorie has successfully been discharged by her Bedford surgeon about her hip displasure only to be taken straight back on again because of her feet!

Dharma had a brilliant academic mentoring meeting on Tuesday and then had an unexpected nosebleed on Thursday evening that landed her in A+E until 3am Friday followed by a visit to the emergency ENT clinic on Friday lunchtime where they did some pretty serious cautery.
She’s pretty sore today but at least she’s not bleeding.

Surprisingly I haven’t been to the cinema once this week.
Not that I haven’t gone a little overboard on watching Robocop that I picked up on Bluray on Monday.

I have decided to spend the weekend with my feet up, a few cold tinnies, some nibbles and lots of movies.

This morning I have been trawling the internet.
I came across this.

Cool Male Celebrity Hairstyles & Haircuts – Issue 05
I don’t have a clue who the guy on the left is, couldn’t give a flying ‘F’ about Robert Pattinson on the right but the guy in the middle, Joel Kinnaman gets my vote every time.
He blows Robert Pattinson out of the water with looks and charm and playful personality. Robert has none of that.

Anyway, what else have I discovered this morning?

Tom Hardy is currently making a film called ‘Legend’
It is another take on the story of Ronnie and Reggie Kray.

I really liked the 1990 story of the notorious brothers in ‘The Krays’ with Gary and Martin Kemp playing the parts but this time around Tom Hardy is taking on the parts…. both parts!!
Tom Hardy is playing both Ronnie and Reggie and a first look photo has just been released.

Hardy Krays

Looking good!!
That’s one film added to the list of viewing for next year.

Anyway, I’ve spent enough time on the PC this morning.
Time to go pick a movie list for the day.

A FIRST FOR ME. TOOK LONG ENOUGH THOUGH.

After blogging Tom Hardy as a Dish of the Week I felt the urge to watch some more of his work.
I started with ‘Wuthering Heights’

I have never watched this in any way shape or form before and I have certainly never read the book.

I had gone through life assuming that Heathcliffe was a hero and a lover.
How wrong could I have been!!
He’s actually quite a tormented and deluded bastard.
Even so, you still feel for him.
The moment he lets his emotions go when Cathy dies my heart ached.
Right up to the moment he finally kills himself.

How can such a heartless, vicous, vengeful man actually make you feel like that?

DISH OF THE WEEK #47 – TOM HARDY

Time for another Brit.

This Dish has been bubbling on the back burner for quite some time.
It wasn’t until I saw him in ‘This Means War’ that he really hit the right spot with me.

He’s an actor that likes to transform himself for his roles.
He actually beefs up quite nicely but I like him best when he looks like this.

Tom Hardy 1

Tom Hardy.

He didn’t really come to my attention until his recent performances in This Means War with Chris Pine and also The Dark Knight Rises with Christian Bale.
However, in The Dark Knight Rises, you never get to see his face. This seems to be a theme with my Dish of the Weeks over the last year. Dredd has a lot to answer for!!

Tom Hardy 2

He’s very good at transforming himself physically.
This is how he looked for the film ‘Warrior’ that I still haven’t seen.

Tom Hardy 3

Compare that to the first thing I ever saw him in.
Star Trek – Nemesis

Tom Hardy 4

I think I am happy now that he has beefed up a little.
I am really looking forward to seeing him as the new Mad Max!!
