With ‘No Time to Die’ now finally out in the world, the question has gone back to just WHO will the next James Bond be?

The possibility of the next Bond being a woman inevitably raises it’s ugly head.
It’s never going to happen and I for one, don’t think it should!

Barbara Broccoli, movie producer and daughter of Albert R. Broccoli who was responsible for securing backing for and kick starting the films inspired by the popular James Bond novels written by Ian Flemming, has always stated that ‘James Bond will never be female’, which is reassuring.

So!! let’s weigh in with some of my own thoughts.
First things first.
Bond has to be British!! So that immediately rules out Adam Driver.
As much as I would LOVE to see him have a crack at Bond, it’s just not Adam and that kind of fame is not what Adam is after. It’s too much. He only just survived being Kylo Ren in the Star Wars movies……… except that Kylo Ren died…. but that’s not what I mean!! The Red carpets and all the attention made him very uncomfortable. The only good thing to come out of that experience was the ability to be able to do the kinds of films he actually ‘wants’ to do and be working constantly.

Right, if we’re going for rugged hard nuts like Daniel Craig then three actors stand out of the crowd for me.
Michael Fassbender, Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy.

My reasoning……..

1st, ….woof, woof and woof!
2nd, they all look stunning in a suit.
3rd, they have all got hard man roles already proven.
4th, they all appeal to both men and women.
5th, they all know how to seduce and smoulder, but they can also turn on the nasty when needed quite effectively.

Next we have a different class of actor choices in Richard Madden, Sam Heughan and Riz Ahmed.

Again. woof. woof and woof!
These three all have the potential to be more suave, more ‘Roger Moore’ than ‘Daniel Craig’ but at the same time will be able to seriously kick butt when needed.
Richard won a lot of hearts as The Bodyguard and this popularity could be harnessed for Bond.
Sam Heughan is ripe for the picking. He has proven his acting chops in the TV series Outlander but has yet to find his feet in a successful film.
Both Richard and Sam are Scottish, so they could be harking back to the days of Sean Connery.
Riz Ahmed is currently proving to be a bit of an all rounder and if given the chance, could bring something completely new to the character of Bond.

I’ve seen other names being mentioned occasionally but one name that gets surprisingly mentioned occasionally is Tom Holland!!

There has been talk about making Bond a lot younger and at just 25 years old, Tom Holland would be a great choice.
He’s adorable and already has leading man experience, however, I feel he is just a bit too young!!
James Bond is a Royal Naval Reserve Commander and you don’t make that rank at just 25 years of age.
Unless they are going to do a story that involves how James becomes 007 then I think Tom would be a very bad decision.

Anyway, after seeing ‘No Time to Die’ it remains to be seen if we’re even going to get a new Bond movie.
I’me very interested to see where it’s going to go.

This is something I haven’t blogged about for a while.
I successfully put it to the back of my mind so that the wait for season 2 wasn’t too dramatic!!
Unlike a certain film franchise who is just going to tease us between episodes with stand alone movies and bluray releases…….. and breath….. no, I’m not bitter about that at all….

So, season 2 of Outlander is just 2 weeks away.
In season 2, we have gone from the rough and rugged highlands of Scotland.

To the sumptuous extravagance of 1740’s France and it looks like the costume designers have done themselves proud!

Really looking forward to the change in dinamic this season.

That was not easy watching for a Sunday morning!!

Last night saw the finale to the first series of Outlander.
So as I had my morning coffee with the rest of the family in bed, I settled down to watch an hour of the most harrowing TV I think I’ve ever watched.

This is the adaptation of the first book in a series that I started reading nearly 20 years ago.
I’ve waited so long to see it brought to the screen and when I found out it was finally being made into a series I was both excited and scared.
Excited because the books are incredible! The story, the people, the scenery, the descriptions that bring it all to life, Diana Gabaldon really does her research to get it all right.
Scared because I know how the first book ends and it doesn’t end well for the hero of the books, James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser.
Doubly scared because I didn’t know if the TV series would be able to do the books any justice.

I needn’t have worried.
The series was in good hands with Ron Moore and his wife , Terry Dresbach, who is a big Outlander fan herself, did an amazing job researching and making all the costumes!

Outlander 5

Randall 1

Sixteen episodes later and we have been taken through every emotion imaginable.
We have seen Claire, struggling with her concience about abandoning her husband in 1945, we have seen her falling in love with Jamie, ‘we‘ have fallen in love with Jamie!
We learned about the history between Jamie and Jack Randall and we learned to despise ‘Black’ Jack Randall.
This all lead up to the finale.
A finale that has broken quite a big barrier for TV and depicted in quite some detail, the torture, rape and breaking of a man.

Jamie 3

These were the scenes from the book that I knew were coming at the end of this first series.
For 15 episodes, I knew in the back of my mind that this was going to happen.
It worried me.
I didn’t know what I was expecting but I knew that if they were going to stay as true as possible to the book, and up to episode 15 they had, then episode 16 was going to be excruciating to watch.

I wasn’t wrong.

Throughout the episode we see Jamie slowly broken, both in body and soul.
Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies did an astounding job with very difficult material and as difficult as it was to watch, they got it right!

I can now breath a sigh of relief.
The hard bit is over and I can’t wait for series 2 to start airing in the Autumn!!

OK, so I have a very short 4.5 hour shift to do today to make up my full hours after doing a short shift on Xmas day.
I’m back to full shifts on Mon, Wed’s (New year’s Eve) and Thurs (New year’s day)
I have a dental appointment on Tues morning and I’m going to my Brothers for drinks and nibbles on Tues afternoon.
So today is the only chance I have to do my roundup for the year.

All in all, it’s been a better year this year.
We still had all the medical issues kicking around and money is still tight but we made the decision NOT to stress about it this year.
Me and Ian pushed the budget and invested in Unlimited Cinema cards which have been an absolute joy to have.
I have been to the cinema a grand total of 48 times.
Taking the kids to the cinema is now not so stressfull because we are not worrying about the cost quite so much.

We made the decision to spend more time together as a couple.
Even if it’s just the cinema trips and the occasional breakfast out.
Sometimes, if finances allow, we even manage to take the kids for a breakfast treat.
This alone has made a big difference for us this year.

We have seen big changes in our eldest daughter Murron who started college in September.
She has the freedom of Bedford because of her bus pass, she has a boyfriend she’s been with now for almost a year and she’s absolutely loving college!
I can’t believe the change in her.
She gets herself out of bed in time to catch the bus for college, even if she’s not feeling good.
We couldn’t even do that with a cattle prod while she was at school!
She may be treating the house as a hotel but at least she’s happy!

While finances have been tight, as usual, they have actually been better controlled this year.
So much so that me and Ian actually bought each other Xmas presents this year for the first time since having the kids.

I have only had 9 Dish of the Week’s this year.
Technically only 7 because Joel Kinnaman had 2 of those entries, Karl Urban had 1 and they both battled it out on a joint entry!

My blogging started off really well in January as it usually does and then by summer it started to slow down until we reached december which has had a grand total of just 6 posts, including this one!
I really must try to do at least one a day next year.

Next year is going to be full of landmark celebrations.

Dharma will be 13
Marjorie will be 16
Murron will be 18
Ian will be 50
and we will be celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary in August with a family holiday to York.

There are lots of other things I could have blogged about this year but for various reasons, I can’t.
Needless to say, we plan to keep next year under control like this year.
We will continue with our Unlimited Cinema membership.
We will continue to enjoy our occasional breakfasts out, including the kids.

My priorities for the year are….. and strictly in this order….
1. My family’s health and happiness and my family in general.
2. My own health and happiness.
3. Work.

I may be doing some soul searching over the next year.
If certain things don’t change I may take a drastic decision before the end of 2015, we’ll see.
Keep checking into my blog to find out.

I hope everyone has a fabulous new year!

Finally, for anyone interested, I started keeping a simple log of films that I’ve watched this year.
I’m surprised I kept it going all year!
The list topped 338 (finalised at 340) films last night and there is the potential for a couple more before the year is over.
So here’s the list.

OK, I succeeded in getting the husband interested in Outlander.
As a Scot himself he was intrigued with how they would be portrayed and I don’t think he was disappointed!

I for one, have just done something I haven’t done in over 5 years!
I’ve grabbed some images.
Oh if only I were still doing the artwork for collector fayres.
I would have given my right arm for a computer package that took grabs like this 10 years ago and now it comes as standard with Windows!!

Oh well, meet James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser and Claire Randall, AKA Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe.
After Reading the books I had a firm picture in my head about what these characters should look like and interact with each other.
If I had any doubts prior to seeing this episode they were blown away as Jamie and Claire quite literally walked off the pages of the book.

I know what lies ahead for Claire and especially Jamie in this first season and my heart is already breaking!
I just hope the rest of the season is as good, if not better than this first episode.

I was having a little chuckle to myself when I got home after a lovely evening out with Mick and Chris to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary.
I was trying to find a photo of some camouflage kilts that I had see recently to show Mick when I came across this….

Kilts 1

After a spark of an idea was given to me by Chris over dinner, I found this picture to be quite apt!!
I decided to make it the cover photo on my Facebook page!!

The timing of the photo couldn’t have been better.

It all came about because we started to discuss a new TV series over our dinner.
A series that I have blogged about before, many moons ago.
Back in July 2013 I found out they were making my favourite books into a TV series.
Not a small production either!

‘Outlander is based on a series of novels by Diana Gabaldon which tell the story of Claire and James Fraser, a couple who time travel between 18th and 20th century Scotland.
It will be set in Scotland, with the production company planning to build a new television studio and production base near Glasgow.’

Yep, they built their own production base!
They have said that this will be the Scottish ‘Game of Thrones’ and I can only hope it’s as successful because these books will make a fantastic series for quite a few years to come!

I cannot wait to meet James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser!!

The show starts this weekend, hence the photo on my FB page!

Dish of the Week number 49 was James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser, a character I know very well from some amazing books I’ve read.

At the end of July last year  I found out that these books were being made into a major new TV series.

Bit by bit information started appearing on the internet and then the principle cast were announced.
I have to admit that when I found out Sam Heughan was cast as Jamie I immediately Googled him and found myself a little dissappointed.

Don’t get me wrong, Sam Heughan is a very good looking young man.

Good looking maybe, 6’3 and a Scot. OK
But Jamie was supposed to be a wild haired ‘red’ head and a little more rugged and weather worn.
Sam wasn’t quite there in my mind.

However, they have since completed filming at least the first 4 episodes of series 1 and have started the promotion game.
I have caught a couple of gatherings with the author Diana Gabalden, the Executive Producer Ron Moore and the two principle cast members, Claire and Jamie played by Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan.

Sam has gone through a bit of a transformation!
He’s grown the hair and dyed it red.
He’s sporting a rough beard. That one must be a pain to keep the right colour!!

Let’s see….

6’3…. check
Scot…. check
Wild red hair…. check
Blue eyes…… check

Sam was merely Jamie in disguise…. he’s perfect!!

As for Sam as an actor, well we’ll just have to see about that one because I have seen him in absolutely nothing!!
But judging by this trailer I have nothing to worry about.
Follow the link and watch it to the end!!

“You’ll no be scared o me or anyone else here, as long as I’m with you”

Oh be still my beating heart!!
Jamie Fraser has quite literally jumped off the pages of the books and onto the screen.
Do I really have to wait until July to see this?!!!!

Diana Gabaldon recently credited the demographics of her readers as identifying with — and wanting to be — Claire, especially because of her steamy relationship with Jamie Fraser: “They sort of want to lick him,” Gabaldon said.

And she was right!!

This blog may have a few small spoilers about the up coming show, so if you don’t want to know, don’t read!!!
You have been warned.

Time to crank up my excitement level a notch!

Back in October my Dish of the Week number 49 was James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser.
There’s a mouthful!!

He is a character in a set of books by Diana Gabalden.
The Outlander Series.

Anyway, I had just found out that they are making these books into a TV series that could potentially be more successful than Game of Thrones and as sumptuous as The Tudors.
The books are told from the viewpoint of a heroin, Claire Randall and starts in post second world war Scotland but quickly lands our heroin in the Scottish Highlands in 1743.

This is an amazing set of books and I’ve only read the first 4!

I also stated ‘Expect me to get very excited as this series looms nearer’
Well….. here goes!!!! because today I saw the first trailer for the series.

Entertainment Weekly has posted an interview with the principle stars, Director  and the author that states……

Showrunner Ron Moore pitched Gabaldon on a different opening, the author revealed at the show’s Television Critics Association press tour panel in Pasadena. Gabaldon said the show will open with Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) during World War II. The show will open with a two-minute prologue set in a field hospital with Claire “in her element” as a wartime nurse. “You need to appreciate her immediately,” Gabaldon recalled Moore pitching. “It shows her being the competent and resilient person that she is.”

Another critic asked if a pivotal scene from the book where Claire is harshly physically punished by her lover Jamie (Sam Heughan) will be seen.

“It’s in the book and it’s in the show,” said Moore, who wore a kilt to the panel. “It’s certainly an explosive scene. It hasn’t been shot yet, it’s down the road a bit. It’s a shocking moment, but its an important part of the development of the characters and we’re going to go for it.”

A critic referred to the scene as Jamie “beating the crap” out of Claire, and Gabaldon clarified: “He spanks her bottom with his sword belt and she doesn’t like it.” Moore then added: “Everybody was in mortal danger due to something she did specifically — in Jamie’s world, there’s a cost to that.”

OMG!! They’re going for it!
That scene is going to be a killer to watch.

Judging by this photo, it looks like they are going to show the books in every single detail.

Don’t know If I’m going to want to see Randall beating the crap out of Jamie!!

I can’t wait to see this show!!
Apart from ‘Summer’ I have no idea when it’s going to air.
As soon as I know I’ll let you know.

So this is the actor cast as Jamie Fraser…..

OK, I can see that.
He’s 6’3 and he’s a Scot so there won’t be any rediculous Hollywood Americans trying to pass off a Scottish accent.
He’s going to have to grow his hair though and if they stay true to the books, he’ll need to colour it a little more red!
He needs to look something like this!!

Jamie Fraser

Yes, I am now well and truly intrigued and really looking forward to what will hopefully be an incredible TV series next year.

I am of course talking about ‘Outlander’
A series of 8 books, so far, by Diana Gabalden.

It starts off in Scotland just after the Second World War.
War time nurse, Claire Randall is on holiday with her husband who is researching his family history.
They were married just before the outbreak of war and are getting to know each other again.
However, Claire inadvertantly walks through a stone circle in the Highlands and straight into a violent skirmish taking place in 1743!
She has landed in Jacobite Scotland and the carnage of Culloden is looming.
Marooned amid the passion and violence, Claire is in terrible danger from Jacobites and Redcoats and from the shock of her own desire for a courageous renegade!
She ends up leading a double life with a husband in one century and a lover in another!

Great stuff!

So far I can only find the casting for Jamie Fraser, the courageous renegade.
There are also a lot of other characters that need to be cast and I only hope they stick with casting actual scots!
Americans can’t do Scottish accents to save their own lives.

I’m also really pleased they are actually filming in the highlands of Scotland.
There’s just nowhere in the world that could double for the Highlands.

They are already referring to it as ‘The Scottish Game of Thrones’
I’m just hoping it’s as lavish as the Tudors and as successful as Game of Thrones.
If they get it right it could go on for a few years!

I have just started reading the books again.
This time around I have four more to content with.
They are all as thick as the Oxford English dictionary and I am the worlds slowest reader!!
Might be quicker for me to wait for the series!
