GOODBYE 2017. HELLO 2018

It’s been a year of mixed emotions.
Predominantly good ones.

Murron has ‘finally’ found a job she absolutely loves!
She works bar at a pub in Bedford but also works bar at it’s Sister pub in Luton.
She gets on like a house on fire with the manager in Luton and stays with her in the flat above the pub when she’s working there multiple days.
They go out partying after work and I can (thankfully) see this being a long term thing.
She can work it around her Open Mic nights too, so it’s really the best of both worlds for her.
For now, I’m just happy she’s happy!

Marjorie is still just Marjorie!
She’s into her second year of college and is still working part time for MacDonalds.
She’s loving the freedom a little cash is giving her.
She’s also applied to stay at the college to start a foundation degree in Sept.

Dharma is into her last few months of school!!
How scary is that?!
Right now she’s stressing herself about her exams which I can understand but it’s hard when you see someone being just a little bit too hard on themselves!
She’s also finding it very difficult seeing her sisters with money and can’t wait to get her NI number so that she can start applying for jobs.
Personally, I’m glad she can’t do it just yet as it would just be an added stresser in her final months of school.
She has also applied for a couple of college courses in Sept and I really hope she gets the qualifications she needs from her exams to be able to do them.

Ian has had a rough year physically.
His arthritis really hasn’t been under control for the entire year and he’s struggled the last few weeks with a nasty case of tonsillitis.

Up until Boxing Day, I had had a pretty good year health wise. However, I woke on boxing day with, what can only be described as, a case of flu!
I hurt all over, my head wanted to explode and I had a hacking dry cough and streaming eyes.
Today is really the first day I feel semi-normal.
I got woken by a hacking cough that seems to be worse when I’m laying down but now that I’ve been up a while the cough has eased off and only catches me occasionally.

So let’s have a little run down….

January started how it should do, with a trip to the cinema to see my BAE in Silence.
To say it’s an emotional film is an understatement.

I started wearing contact lenses.
It was something I had toyed with for a while but as my brother’s wedding in Italy was looming, I decided to give them a go.
I wish I had done it sooner.
It’s so liberating not having to worry about glasses all the time.

In February my BAE did a live Snickers advert for the Superbowl.

Dharma and her friend Reece decided to raise money for the Riverbank Sensory Garden Project and between them they raise over £650!!
They were helped along quite nicely by the DJ at my Dad’s 70th Birthday party.
They walked away from that with nearly £300. It was incredible.
The fund did so well, so quickly, that the garden was actually finished and opened in October. 2 years ahead of schedule!!

February also saw me get offered the opportunity to further my career by taking on a Foundation Degree as a Nursing Associate.

In March I discovered Sens8.
Why I hadn’t discovered this before is beyond me!
What an amazing show.
Pity that Netflix decided to cancel it at the end of the second season.
To be honest, I’m not surprised. The show is a logistical nightmare to film and because of all the different locations around the world it must have been really expensive too.
Of course the cancellation caused absolute uproar with the fans, so Netflix are at least giving us ‘closure’ with a finale episode in 2018.

‘Paterson’ came out on DVD.
I love this unassuming little film.
OK OK, my BAE Adam Driver is in it but what makes it extra special for me is that I went to see this at a preview showing in London in November 2016 and Adam Driver did a Q+A at the end of the showing!!
The very same Q+A is on the DVD release!

Yes, I can happily say that ‘I’ took this photo!!

In April, my work life changed dramatically. I officially enrolled and started as a Uni student. From now on my Mondays are to be spent in Uni, my Tuesdays are spent in placement and the remainder of my work hours are spent in my own work place.
Gone is my free time as writing referenced essays has put paid to any free time I may have had for the next two years!

I sneaked in an IMAX viewing of The force Awakens.

Here we go…
The teaser trailer and poster for Last Jedi were finally revealed at the Celebrations convention. The build up to the movie had begun and we still had 8 months to wait!

I wrote my last piece of fan fiction for a while. It was called ‘Lace’ and involved a certain force wielding babe and a pair of red lacey knickers!!
I will not be posting links to any of my fan-fiction here because my family read my blogs.
There is no way I want them reading my fics.

May was fairly boring.
I upped my excercising and dieting that was going really well in preparation for Italy.

In June I had a wonderful weekend in London with Ian. We had tickets to the Royal Albert Hall to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra do ‘Space Spectacular’.
‘A voyage through a galaxy of favourite music from deep space and beyond, with lights, lasers and indoor fireworks’
I went for the obligatory ‘John Williams’ music and I was not disappointed. It was an amazing show.

And they played my all time favourite Star Wars piece!! Duel of the Fates.

The rest of the weekend was amazing.
We picked a weekend with great weather and we just spent time walking around, having wonderful food and lots of drink.

I was a little impulsive when we went to Soho and got myself an industrial piercing.

In July my Uni course was in full swing and I passed my first essay. I also passed my maths exam and completed a joint presentation which was a frustrating challenge.

On my way to Uni one Monday morning I discovered a note under one of my wiper blades. It read ‘Stunningly beautiful’ and left a phone number.
To say it put a smile on my face was an understatement.

When filming wrapped on The Last Jedi, we got some amazing behind the scenes footage that just stoked the fires of the fans as their theories and predictions went into full meltdown.

Kylo Ren’s Tie Silencer was revealed and it was as sleak and sexy as it’s pilot.

A groundbreaking show called ‘Queer Britain’ presented by Riyadh Khalaf and originally airing on BBC3 was given BBC1 status.
I’m so happy for Riyadh!
The show is amazing and heartbreaking and eye opening. Check it out.
Keep your eyes peeled for this very charismatic young man. He’s going to go far.

I had a mid-life crisis breakthrough as after 48 years, I finally found my look.
A look I am still working on.
My hair is as short as it will go without using clippers and it is so liberating to not have to worry about styling it every morning.
I have a piercing I wouldn’t have dared get when I was younger and I have got the tattoo bug.

August has to be voted ‘Month of the Year’
I spent 10 days in Italy with Mum and Dad for my little Bro’s wedding.
I saw Sienna, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano and cried when I saw Florence.

And I had a close encounter with a wild porcupine and a mouse!!

On returning from Italy I was presented with a new movie with my BAE Adam Driver.

But I also got a movie with my other boy Domhnall Gleeson. (Who comes in a hot second to Adam)

It was back to normality in September and October.
Domhnall had 2 more movies out (the guy never stops working!!!)
He had a very creepy appearance in ‘Mother’ but then it was followed by an amazing performance as AA Milne in ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’

I did go out with Ian for a couple of meals and movies around my birthday.
Uni ended at the end of October which meant I was now spending more time in my own work place again, although placements would be carrying on on Tuesdays.

November saw me indulging in my biggest tattoo yet.
I finally got the first order logo on my shoulder.
It’s a work in progress and I plan on expanding it.

December finally arrived and the AGONISING two year wait was over as The Last Jedi finally got released.
I loved it but it has divided the fandom.
It certainly did not go the way anyone thought it would go.
We knew that Adam had done a lot of filming with Daisy in Ireland on Skellig Michael, but everyone assumed there was going to be a huge battle with Kylo and his Knights against Luke and Rey…. HOW WRONG WE WERE.
Their scenes ended up being some of the most intimate in Star Wars history!

We also discovered that Snoke did not amount to anyone important and Rey was a complete nobody!! But not to Kylo (aaaahhh)

The discourse that this film has produced is incredible.
It seems to be a bit of a marmite movie. Fans either love it, or hate it.

Just 2.5 weeks after it’s release, it is sitting at number 43 in the all time worldwide box office chart and has raked in over $930 million!
It will be interesting to see how close to Force Awakens it gets considering that Force Awakens is sitting at number 3 with just over 2 billion in box office takings….. insane!

With Star Wars out of the way after 4 viewings, it was time to enjoy Xmas and we did.
Xmas day was a lovely day but things took a nosedive on boxing day when I came down with a flu.

I’m not feeling too bad today, just left with an annoying cough.
So, work it is tomorrow then. I can’t let them down on New Years Eve of all days!!

So that was bisically my year.
I’m sure a lot more happened that I’m forgetting about.
Now….

What about the movies?
Me and Ian continued with our trips to the cinema to utilise our Unlimited Cards.
Since getting the cards I have kept track of all the movies I watch in a year.
In 2014, I watched a total of 341 films with 48 of them at the cinema.
In 2015, I watched a staggering 379 films with 64 of them at the cinema.
In 2016, I watched 301 films with 48 of them at the cinema.
This year saw a big dip because of all the time I spent on Uni work.
In 2017, I have (so far) watched only 164 films with 52 of them at the cinema.

So Uni hasn’t really interfered with going ‘out’ to the cinema, but it has certainly affected the time I spend watching them at home.

The coming year will probably see even more of a dip as I go from level 4 to level 5 of my Foundation Degree.
This coming year will see me learning about dispensing some medications and will ‘hopefully’ end with me qualifying and getting my pin and registration with the NMC!!

The only time away I will get to spend with Ian is a trip to London at the beginning of March. We are going to see Imagine Dragons at the O2 and I can’t wait.
We decided to make a break of it and booked 3 nights in a hotel. The weather may not be as good as it was in June but I adore London and can’t wait to take it all in again.

Apart from that trip, it’s going to be a tough and frugle year all round!!

I will use this site as a sounding board if my feathers get ruffled.
I may not blog as much as I’d like but I just want to get 2018 out of the way…… and it hasn’t even arrived yet!!!

THROWN UNDER A BUS

This blog may contain some spoilers for Logan Lucky and American made. You have been warned.

It’s been an eventful week since returning from Italy.

I got to see my boys in their new movies, Logan Lucky and American Made.

Logan Lucky had me chuckling all the way through.
Adam Driver delivers one of the funniest lines I’ve heard in a movie for a long while.
As things go a little haywire with a vacuum machine that’s sucking money out of a vault, Daniel Craig’s character, Joe Bang, gets a little over zealous and accidentally points the machine at Adam Driver’s one armed character, Clyde Logan. The inevitable happens and Adam Driver dead pans a look at Craig Daniels and simple says, with a deep Southern accent, “you sucked ma arm off!!”.

Writing it down doesn’t do the scene any justice. It was hilarious.
Adam Driver has a pouty, miserable look on his face for the entire movie. He’s adorable.

American made was just unbelievable!!
That fact it’s based on a true story makes it all the more unbelievable.
Domhnall’s character, Monty Schafer, is a bit of a sleezeball and just in it for himself. The fact he ends up with a juicy promotion astounded me.

On Sunday evening I went to see Murron singing her first official gig at Esquires in town. She was amazing, although she’ll never admit it herself.

After Esquires, I stayed in town with Murron for a while and we went to The Barley Mow as they were having a strip night!
In hindsight, a bit of a mistake as I got thrown in front of a bus by Murron and her mates.

As the stripper started his show, I felt I was safe stood at the front of the crowd as this is a gay bar and the stripper was interacting quite nicely with the men. Unfortuantely he decided to end the show with me! who had been gently pushed in his direction by Murron and her mates. Thanks guys.
Not that I didn’t enjoy the experience, underneath that flag with a very impressive specimen flapping around in my face as I rubbed moisturiser into his abs.

Not ahamed to enjoy myself at any opportunity!!

Anyway, it was back to work for 07:30 on the Monday morning. My first full shift for around 3 weeks. It was a bank holiday Monday so not too stressful.

Tuesday was a late start at Uni for a speaker who came in to talk to us about reflection.
She was hilarious!
It was then an early finish to allow us to continue with home study for our next essay.
This allowed me to take Dharma into the hospital for an official photo of the start of work on the new play area that she’d helped to raise money for.
We honestly didn’t expect to reach our target for another year or two and here we are, just 6 months down the line and we will have a brand new play area by October.

I’ve spent the last couple of days, toying with my reflective essay and doing chores around the house. I’ve also eaten like a pig and drank like a fish!!

My new favourite drink is a LARGE wine glass, half filled with ice, a good shot (or two) of Limoncello and then filled to the brim with Prosecco!! Very refreshing and very moreish! It doesn’t last long.

Unfortuantely, all my Limoncello is now gone. The last memories of Italy are finally gone.

Come tomorrow morning, I seriously need to get back on track with the diet and exercise. I’m feeling bloated and horrible.

I have to think about the holiday me and Ian are planning for 2019!
Our big year.
End of Foundation Degree, 25 years of marriage and my 50th birthday.

We have decided to do a grown up holiday instead of the Orlando theme park experience we had initially talked about.
We know we want to do a tour of Italy but to what extent depends on a few things over the next year.

One of the things we have looked at is a 21 day train tour! Taking in Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples and lots in between.
Once you take out the expence of flights, there’s a lot more you can do!
Watch this space.

So that’s it.!
Back to normal life for the next two years.

Domhnall has two movies due out at the end of September and they couldn’t be any more different.

Crash Pad which takes Domhnall back to his comedic roots with ‘Immaturity for Charity’

Followed by Goodbye Christopher Robin which I’m seriously hoping will pick up an Oscar or two in the new year!

Then of course I get to see both Adam and Domhnall in The Last Jedi in December!
I literally can’t wait. It’s been almost 2 years since The Force Awakens and Kylo Ren and General Hux entered my life and turned it upside down.
I can’t wait to see how things develop for them in The Last Jedi although I’m really scared that General Hux will literally be going down in flames with his ship!

I may just cry.

OK, CAN’T DENY IT… LITTLE BIT EXCITED!!

So, I have finalised and submitted my next essay two weeks before it’s actually due and now I’m on holiday prep!!

I can’t deny it….. I’m just a tad excited.
Italy, here I come.
10 days, 2 villas, Florence, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, food, wine and a family wedding!!

Oh yeah, no husband and no kids!!

I am thinking about blogging as I go but it highly depends on internet services whilst I’m out there.
If nothing is posted for the next two weeks, look out for one big blog when I get home!!

When I do get home I have two movies with my boys to see.
August 25th sees the release of Logan Lucky with Adam Driver and American Made with Domhnall Gleeson.

Adam and Dom

Do not expect me to be doing anything other than spending the entire day in the cinema.

It is going to be a busy couple of months for Domhnall with not one but 4 film releases to look forward to.
American Made on August 25th
Mother on Sept 15th
Goodbye Christopher Robin on Sept 29th
and of course, Star Wars on Dec 15th

He then has Peter rabbit due in March next year, one film, A Futile and Stupid Gesture, in post production with no release date, Crash Pad with no release date and is currently filming Little Stranger.
He’s been a busy boy!

MY APOLOGIES IN ADVANCE

It will come as no surprise to anyone that I am a HUGE Star Wars fan.

The Force Awakens was a breath of life into a fandom that has never truly died.
Since 1977 Star Wars has been a part of me. Han Solo was always my hero. Princess Leia was my heroine who showed me that I didn’t actually need a man to stand up for myself.

The fandom may have gone quiet for a few years and the prequels (although not bad) didn’t quite hit the mark but Christmas 2015 was the turning point.
Fandom got a slap in the face, was told to wake up and smell the roses. Star Wars was back and is set to be an even bigger part of our lives for the foreseable future.

We all had an Awakening. For me, in more ways than one.

With the Force Awakens came an obsession that has only gone from strength to strength over the last year and a half.
Kylo Ren…… or more precisely….. Adam Driver.

The more I found out about him, the more I watched him in things, the more I fell in love with him.
He’s amazing. There simply is no other word for him.

Such a humble and giving man and I continue to love him from the ears that are fighting for dominance on his head right down to his big feet!

The reason for this post is to apologise in advance for the spewing forth of everything Adam related over the next few months.

This past weekend saw the release of the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi that is due this December.
We finally got a glimpse of what Kylo’s scar is going to look like.

The Kylo snippets from the teaser were so tantalisingly quick it was frustrating.

So it’s now official, It’s out of the starting gate and all the hype leading up to the actual movie has officially started. There will be one, if not two more full trailers coming over the next few months followed by the press tours which mean a lot of new photos and interviews to enjoy!!

However……

Adam also has another film due around the end of August.
Logan Lucky with Daniel Craig. In which, two brothers played by Adam Driver and Channing Tatum, attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina.

1113

Adam Driver, Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig, Sebastian Stan and even Domhnall Gleeson’s little brother Brian Gleeson… all in one movie.

I’m hoping a trailer will be dropping for this one very soon!!
Along with interviews and press tour and photos.

So my apologies (although I’m not actually sorry) are for not shutting up about Adam for the foreseable future.
I will be posting interview snippets and every photo I can lay my hands on alongside trailers and film clips.

BRING…. IT…. ON!!!

And just so I can hopefully convert some of you to the god that is Adam, I also want to leave this here for you to look at.
This…..
This is what makes adam so special.
Forget Star Wars.
This is Adam’s first love. His charity, Arts in the Armed Forces.
His short lived experience as a Marine was their loss but our gain!!

LOGAN LUCKY…HAPPY ADAM!!

So, after getting some unusual pictures from the set of ‘Logan Lucky’ yesterday showing us that Adam Driver’s character has only got one arm, this morning I wake up to these amazing shots of Adam and Daniel Craig.

1112

1105

1113

1114

Adam looks so happy!!!

1115

Although what his character has to be so happy about is a mytery.
He is apparantly missing an arm AND he’s a convict!!
It’s a little frustrating to know that this film is not set for release until October next year!!
Still, that means 2 films in 2 months of Adam and his lustrous hair and hopefully, in at least one we get to see that amazing smile!!

Today is going to be a good day.
After thoroughly depressing myself over the last few days with the ‘Holding The Man’ movie and memoir, I seriously needed something to cheer me up.
Adam smiling and happy is my new happy pill.

ROUNDUP

So today was not a particularly good day.
After the problem with my knee a few months ago, I’d thought that things were improving.
Physio has discharged me although I continue with the exercises.
My knee had reached a level where I was actually power walking again and really enjoying it.

However, I had a little setback at work on Saturday when I jarred my knee and got shooting pains again. Not to the extent of the original explosion in my knee but enough to make things uncomfortable.

Strong pain relief helped things ease off. My day off yesterday was spent relaxing and taking it easy and as I walked into work this morning things were feeling good.
It did not last and the shooting pain started to catch me at every small turn.

I ended up having to leave work early so I didn’t push it to the point where I was off my feet for another three weeks.
I’m not back into work until Thursday but I think a trip to the GP is now in order to get referred to someone to get it checked out properly.
Considering I never had an X-ray or a scan when the original injury happened, I think that now is the time.

So I spent the rest of the afternoon with my feet up and reading Tim Conigrave’s memoir ‘Holding the Man’
I’ve reached the point where his partner, John is going to die and I don’t think I can handle it, so I’m taking a cowardly break.

A bit of Tumbling was in order and I discovered some new images of Adam on the set of his new film project.

He is currently in Atlanta, Georgia filming ‘Logan Lucky’ with Daniel Craig and Channing Tatum.
I must admit to being a little surprised by the images.
Looks like his character is missing an arm!! But he’s still got his gorgeous hair.

Anyway, it suddenly occurred to me that between now and December 2017 I have ‘potentially’ 5 of Adam’s films to see with the potential of three of them to obtain on DVD.

‘Paterson’ which premiered in Cannes and has a UK release date of 25th November 2016.
Don’t know how wide the release may be and I may end up having to go to London to see it!

‘Silence’ should be seeing inital release in December but as yet there is no date for the UK and again I may have to go to London to see this one.

‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’ is in pre-production but Terry Guilliam wants to have it ready for Cannes next year.

Then we have ‘Logan Lucky’ which is currently filming and is set for release in October 2017.

And of course we then have ‘Star Wars Ep VIII’ set for release Dec 2017.
It’s finished filming and is in post production. Expect me to rave about this one.
I can’t wait!!!
Kylo on his way to redemption but I fear for Hux!

Paterson, Silence and The Man Who Killed Don Quixote are the DVD probabilities and in fact in some cases I may only get to see them for the first time on DVD. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Right, time to suck it up and get back to this memoir!
