AT LAST!!

Ok, I got to see Paterson early and I’m going to see it again because it looks like it’s getting a pretty good general release at the end of this week. I won’t have to travel too far to see it.

There is another Adam Driver film I’ve been chomping at the bit to see or even get details for and this week we’ve been given an official poster and the first trailer.

It’s Martin Scorcese’s new baby and, if I have my information correct, has taken him over 20 years to bring to fuition.
It is getting a limited release at the end of December so that it will be in contention for Oscars and then it goes on general release early in the new year.

It’s set in the seventeenth century and tells the story of two Jesuit priests who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and propagate Christianity.

It looks like it’s going to be quite stunning!!

Adam Driver lost an incredible 51 pounds for the role and it painfully shows in this trailer.
It going to be an emotional roller coaster of a film I think.

SILENCE

SILENCE – In the seventeenth century, two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and propagate Christianity.

The more I find out about this project the more interested I become.
The only reason I found out about this film was because of my recent obsession with Adam Driver who happens to star in it.

…… am I ready to see Adam get the stuffing kicked out of him? mmm

Anyway, it is a Martin Scorsese project and he has had it on the burners since 1991!
It originally started to come together in 2009 with  Daniel Day-Lewis, Benicio del Toro and Gael Garcia Bernal to star but has been put on the back burners several times since as Martin was busy with other projects such as Shutter Island, Hugo and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Silence finally came together in 2013 when Andrew Garfield signed onto the project. He was followed by Adam Driver and Liam Neeson in January 2014.

silence 1

Garfield was cast as Father Rodrigues and Adam was cast as Father Francisco Garrpe, the two Jesuit priests, and Neeson was cast as the priests’ mentor, Father Cristóvão Ferreira.
Garfield lost an incredible 40 pounds to play the role and he wasn’t that big to start with!
Judging by this snap of Adam taken during or just after filming, he too lost some serious weight to play the part and he also grew out his lovely hair!

silence 2

In an interview with Collider, Liam Neeson remarked on the physical preparation for the movie. Neeson dropped twenty pounds for the role. He also said “Martin wanted us all to look a bit more gaunt, which Adam Driver & Andrew Garfield did as well. I know Adam went to the extreme. He’s an ex marine and when he’s given an order, he follows it through. He was like something out of Auschwitz.”!!!

OMG, no…. I don’t think I’m ready for this film. Starved and beaten. NOPE! No and no!!

Sporting the beard is no new thing for Adam and he always wears it well but it looks like Andrew Garfield also grew a healthy beard for the film but he looks a little more like Grizzy Adams!

silence 3

The only official images I can find so far are of Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson.

However, Adam and Andrew were snapped on set.

There have been predictions that this film could be up for Oscars.
Some go as far as to say, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay.
Liam Neeson has also been given a nod to Best Supporting Actor.
Production, cinematography and costumes are also being given a nod. People seem to be genuinely excited about this film.
What are the chances Adam could be up for his first Oscar nomination?!!!

Oh well, looks like it won’t be released until at least November this year so I’ve got a long time to wait and find out.
Nothing new there then.

RUN ALL NIGHT

So here is my review of Run All Night.
Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnaman’s new movie.

I liked it!

As a bit of a Joel Kinnaman fangirl there’s no suprise there!

If you liked the Taken movies then you’ll like Run All Night.
It doesn’t quite have the atmosphere of the first two Taken movies but is better than the third one.
Liam Neeson is still fighting for his family in this one, namely Joel Kinnaman as his son Michael.

557
The difference though is that in the Taken movies he was a good guy fighting for his family.
In Run All Night he is fighting the demons of his past and is not the kind of guy you really want in your life.
Michael finds it very hard to accept him and his help and the film battles with getting that Father son connection back before it’s too late.

I have to say that I was very impressed with Joel and I’m trying desperately not to be biased here.
My reason…..
Joel hit my radar after Robocop last year.
A film I loved but Joel spent the best part of the movie in a Tin Man suit being very…. well… robotic!
I managed to see him in some of his Swedish films with subtitles.
Easy Money and In Your Veins are brilliant films!
His other English speaking films have been very small parts and didn’t really showcase his talents at all.
The only other English speaking thing I’ve seen him in was ‘The Killing’, a TV series that ran for 4 years.
His character, Stephen Holder is one of the best detectives ever brought to the small screen.
The Johan Falk series of Swedish films were good and Joel’s character, Frank Wagner, is very ‘Holder’ ish, but in Swedish!!

Now, having seen him in a meaty supporting role next to Liam Neeson and holding his own, I’m a lot happier that people will now see that he has a lot of potential as a leading man a little more often.
I’m hoping that ‘The Bends’ due out next year and starring along side Rosamund Pike, will seal the deal!!
I’m also hoping that ‘Suicide Squad’, also due out next year, will showcase him in a totally different way, as a Superhero, or to be more precise, an ex-supervillain!!

rick flag

Right, now I just have to wait for ‘Child 44’ next month!

THAT JUST SLAYS ME!

OK, so things have been a little quiet over the last 6 months when it comes to Joel Kinnaman.
Over the last couple of weeks I finally got some news about a couple of films he has in pre-production for release next year.
Both ‘starring roles’

Next month sees the release of ‘Run All Night’ in which Joel plays the son of Liam Neeson in another ‘don’t piss off the geriatric gunman’ outings.
It actually looks pretty good!

Anyway, I had to be up at 06:30 this morning…. on my day off!!
I needed to get Marjorie out of bed and off to school early.
She’s doing Media studies and is currently part of the crew for a dance show.
They are competing against other schools in a ‘Rock Challenge’ today and needed to leave school at 07:30 and won’t be home until nearly midnight!

So, early morning cuppa before tackling some college work and trawing the internet for a little while and what do I find?
New pictures of Joel enjoying some down time with his new girl, Chloe Wattenstrom.

513 515
Unfortunately it’s now time for a cold shower because one photo in particular hit my ‘weak spot’.

520
That spot…. right there…. just behind the ear and down to the nape of the neck!!
And he has such a long neck!!!

OK, time to get my head out of the gutter and think about some actual work.

HAPPY DAY!!

Well, the day started with all good intentions.
I got some cleaning done.
Got the washing on the go.
Went to collect tickets for an Unlimited showing of Kingsman on Monday evening before a quick trip to Tesco.
That’s where things took a bit of a turn.

I went to Tesco for some fresh bread for the kids school packups and came out with 3D Guardians of the Galaxy!!
Just…. couldn’t…… resist!!

OK, I said, better get some college work done.
I sat at the computer with all good intentions but I just couldn’t get my head into gear.
After an hour of playing around with the same questions and getting nowhere I decided it just wasn’t going to happen today.
So I sat a watched X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Then I started to have a little nose around the internet instead.
I’m so glad I did.

Information and pictures of my man Joel have been a little thin on the ground since he finished promoting Robocop and filming the last season of The Killing early in 2014.
He seems to have taken a break from things for a while to just enjoy life.
Any photos I do find are of him simply enjoying himself with friends.
He received the prestigious Eliason Merit Award from The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles for his ability to successfully raise Sweden’s profile within the arts and entertainment industry back in November 2014.

But I have been waiting with baited breath for a few films he has listed on his IMDB site.
One of them ‘Knight of Cups’ is directed by Terrence malick who is notorious for ‘over’ filming and then cutting the film to it’s final stage and in some cases totally cutting out an entire actors performance!! So I still have no idea if Joel made it to the final cut.

Another one is ‘Child 44’ Starring Tom Hardy.
This one is directed by Daniel Espinosa and as Daniel was responsible for bringing Joel to the States, I’m expecting good things with Joel.

The one I am currently really excited about is ‘Run All Night’ Starring Liam Neeson.
Hot on the heels of his success in the Taken trilogy, Liam Neeson plays an aging hitman who is forced to take on his brutal former boss to protect his estranged son and his family.
Joel plays his son Michael!! and I’ve just seen the Trailer.

I’m expecting this one around April.
Can’t wait!!

After these though, I’m getting a little worried because IMDB are not listing him for any else.
Nothing has been announced.
Nothing is in pre-production.
No TV shows.
Nothing.
With two films completed and one in post production, I would hope to see something else crop up on his IMDB listing pretty soon.
Guess I’ll just have to be patient.

MOVIES TO SEE IN 2014

I’ve just been doing a bit of trolling on the internet to find out about movie releases in 2014.
I’ve decided to make movie going a bit more of a regular thing.
Movies were my hobby growing up and I miss not getting to the cinema more often.
Blurays are great on a big TV but it just isn’t the same as seeing them on the BIG screen and sharing the experience with lots of people.

So here are a few I’ve picked out that have tweaked my interest for one reason or another.
I’m sure there are lots more on the way that are more thought provoking and oscar worthy but when I go to the movies I want a bit of fun and escapism.
Thought provoking and oscar worthy can wait for my On Demand service.

So, starting with releases in January……

This first one has tweaked my interest for all the wrong reasons.
The story is dubious.
The acting looks a bit shaky.
Overall it looks a bit cheesy……… but
Kellan Lutz is Hercules.
The costumes and the muscles look jaw dropping.
The Legend of Hercules.

The next one is The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box.
This time we have some great British talent. Sam Neill, Michael Sheen and Ioan Gruffudd.
Unfortunately, judging by the trailer, the story itself looks a bit weak.
Worth a try though.

Next is ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’
I love the past Jack Ryan movies,  The Hunt for Red October with Alec Baldwin, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger  with Harrison Ford and The Sum of All Fears with Ben Affleck.
I think my favourite to date has been the first one.
However, this time around they have gone right back to a very young Jack Ryan, just starting out in his career and much to little Dharma’s delight they have chosen Chris Pine to play Ryan.
The film is a PG 13…. mmmmm I might just be able to smuggle Dharma in to see it!!

In February we have the re-make of Robocop.
I loved the original but it has become very dated and camp.
This one looks like they have gone for the serious look and it actually looks good.

We have ‘Non-Stop’
Who’d have thought that Liam Neeson would be an action hero at this point in his life!

We also have ‘The Monuments Men’
I discovered this one completely by accident but it looks like it could be quite fun.

In March we have ‘Stretch’.
This is another Chris Pine movie but judging by the storyline I won’t be taking Dharma to see this one.
Considering it’s due for release in March, I can’t find a damned trailer for it!!

Storyline…
A chauffeur takes on a job for a billionaire who makes his life hell.

Patrick Wilson plays a limo driver who discovers he only has one shift left to pay off a big debt, and he rolls the dice. When the chauffeur picks up a reclusive billionaire (Chris Pine) with some deviant appetites, the driver vows to fulfill the guy’s every request, no matter how weird, to score the big tip that could square him. But as the night grows stranger and the driver is pushed into some very dangerous encounters, he worries that the freak in his back seat might just be his final fare.

There is a new biblical blockbuster on the way in the form of ‘Noah’

Moving into April we have ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’
This is the second solo outing for Captian America and it looks like it’s going to be incredible.

We also have an interesting looking film starring Johnny Depp. Not his usual over the top character in this one but some more down to earth acting with a frightening look into a possible future if technology keeps developing at the speed it already is.

‘Draft Day’ is another sports film from Kevin Costner. It also stars Tom Welling. It will be interesting to see him get his teeth into a good role. Haven’t seen much of him since Smallville ended.

In May things start to heat up a little.
Starting with ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2

Followed by ‘Godzilla’

Followed by another installment in the X-Men franchise with ‘X-Men: Days of future Past’

We finish the month with ‘Maleficent’
Continuing the recent glut of fairy stories we have a re-working of Sleeping Beauty with Angelina Joli playing Maleficent who has been fashioned on Disney’s 1950’s version of the character and she looks amazing!!

In June we have ‘ Edge of Tomorrow’
Stright off the back of Oblivion, we have another Tom Cruise adventure.

Followed by 22 Jump Street.
21 Jump Street wasn’t the greatest movie in history but any movie with Channing Tatum has got to be worth a look.

This month we also have ‘How To Train Your Dragon 2.
The first one was amazing and in this one, Hiccup is all grown up.

We also have ‘Transformers 4: Age of Extinction’
There is not trailer for this one yet and any information that has been leaked onto the internet has been taken down so quickly, I can’t keep up.
Just watch this space.

In July we start with ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’
As a fan of the original movies I am interested to see where they are taking this series and how they are going to get there.

We also have ‘Jupiter Ascending’
I caught this one on a trailer on TV the other night.
Another Channing Tatum but in this one it looks like he really gets to flex hi muscles and moves!

This months also see another Hercules movie!!
Hercules: The Thracian Wars.
There’s no trailer yet but they have cast another favourite of mine in the title role. Dwayne Johnson.
Oh yes… tall, well built and perfect for the role of Hercules.
Again, watch this space.

We are now into August and it’s getting harder to find trailers for up coming movies because they are still filming or in post production.
For me, there is only one film I want to see in August.
I have been waiting 2 bloody years for this thing to be released!
It was filmed in the summer of 2011 for a release in 2012 however, after lots of wrangling and a change in distributor, the date kept getting pushed back until they have finally settled on August 29th 2014.
If it doesn’t get released next year I am simply going to burst!!
Can’t wait to see Karl Urban playing a complete shit!
I ‘still’ cannot find this on Youtube for a direct link so you’ll have to click on the following link to see the trailer.

After that things look pretty thin on the ground until Dec when we get the third in the Hobbit trilogy ‘There and Back Again’
There’s also another instalment to the Night at the Museum movies and this time it’s set in London.

There’s got to be more on the way, I’m just tuckered out looking for them.
I’m going to look at getting me and Ian movie cards. That way there’s no arguments about going to the movies a lot and get to see some of the films I wouldn’t normally get to see because I finances.
As long as we see a couple of films each, a month, then the rest is a bonus.
