Before I end the day with a bit of Joel, I managed to squeeze in a bit of Henry!

Henry - 1

Henry - 2

There’s always room for Henry!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The Chronicles of Riddick
Cold Light of Day

Now I just need to choose which Joel film I’m in the mood for to end the day.
That could take the rest of the evening!!
I think I will flip a coin between ‘Easy Money’ and ‘In Your Veins’

Night Y’all

I get myself dressed in scruffs and ready to do some SERIOUS gardening and then it goes and rains!!

Oh well, looks like a quick tidy up and then the afternoon on the sofa with Joel Kinnaman …… I mean me curled up on the sofa with some Joel movies!!
I couldn’t be that lucky!

What to choose?
What am I in the mood for?

Lead down the wrong path Joel in ‘Easy Money 1, 2 and 3’?

I made the wrong decision Joel in ‘Lola Versus’?

I will watch this movie just for the incredible but vicious 3 minute fight scene with Ryan Reynolds in ‘Safe House’?

or how about I’m a backstabber and a coward and deserve everything I get Joel in ‘The Darkest Hour’.

or how about my favourite one so far, naive and head over heels in love Joel in ‘In Your Veins’

Decisions, decisions.
I just wish Netflix would hurry up and air the last series of The Killing!!!

Or I could go crazy and give Joel a break and pick one of my other 1030 movies!!
It might just take the rest of the afternoon to make a decision.

Right where’s the chocolate and the beer?

I am unashamedly going to gush now.
I think you can probably guess about who.

I now have a Bluray release date for Robocop.
9th June.
83 days and counting.

83 days!!! That’s so far away.
I am just going to have to make do with Youtube for while.
Clips like this…..

Robocop…. he’s a dangerous guy, you don’t wanna mess with him.
Skinhead Joel with the wingnut ears is so cute!!!

This obsession started on February 7th.
I was blown away with the reboot of Robocop.
They haven’t re-made the original movie, they have re-told it.
They have kept the important elements of what makes Robocop.
Only this time around they have gone into the ethics of doing it.
What makes us human.
Alex Murphy struggles to keep his humanity and ultimately, his family.

I came away from that film thinking, this new guy, Joel Kinnaman, is a bit interesting.
That’s how it starts.
A bit of IMDB info and filmography and I find myself watching the TV series that got him noticed in the US.

Steven Holder
The Killing.
Steven Holder makes me laugh….
Steven Holder makes me cry…..
Steven Holder is a little boy lost but he’s good at his job.
That TV series leads to his movie roles.

Except I have a minor problem.
Joel Kinnaman is beautifully bilingual.
Swedish Mother and American Father.
He grew up in Sweden and that is where he started his acting career.

Two of his best roles so far have been in Swedish films.
Easy Money (Snabba Cash) is the film that got him noticed in Hollywood.
A film that thankfully, is available on DVD with good English subtitles.

It’s about a young man living a double life and getting caught up in events he can’t control and is totally unprepared for.

In Your Veins ( I Skuggan Av Varmen) is a very hard hitting film about a young woman, struggling to keep her life together as a heroin user.
She meets and falls in love with Eric (Joel) a police officer.
Eric is very naive and has a very shielded view of life and for a while she manages to keep her secret from him.
However, things ultimately get revealed but by that time, it’s too late. They have well and truly bonded.
Eric ultimately ends up finding things out that explain why she does what she does.

I think this film has been my favourite so far!
Unfortunately, the subtitles weren’t brilliant.
They were good enough to allow me to follow the film however.
I just really want to get hold of a DVD copy with properly translated Subs like Snabba Cash!!
Unfortunately that will probably never happen!!

So, since February 7th I have seen….
The entire series of The Killing so far, with the final 6 episodes due on Netflix later this year.
I’ve seen Robocop 4 times with the Bluray out in June.
I own Lola Versus, The Darkest Hour and Easy Money (Snabba Cash)
I have managed to watch, In Your Veins (I Skuggan Av Varmen), Easy Money 2 (Snabba Cash 2) and Johan Falk: Spelets Regler (Johan Falk: Rules of the Game)
And I have seen an episode of Arn The Knight Templar on American Netflix.

I have three films in post production to look out for over the next year and ‘hopefully’ after the success of Robocop, if the Bluray does as well, they may announce a Robocop 2!!
I can but hope.

There are no end of videos available on Youtube with Joel being interviewed and he is just adorable.
He is obviously very new to all the attention.
He has puppy dog eyes and an adorably sheepish smile.

Joel 04

I am well and truly smitten. Can you tell?
And now that I have got that out of my system, I can concentrate on a few chores before I relax and prepare myself for work again tomorrow.

Daniel Espinosa is a Director to watch.

He has recently hit my radar for one good reason.
Joel Kinnaman.
That and the fact he’s a good Director doesn’t hurt either.

He’s Swedish, no surprise there.
He’s only 2 years older than Joel and they have both been in the business around the same amount of time.

Daniel made his name when he collaborated in writing and also directing ‘Snabba Cash (Easy Money)’
A film in which he placed Joel as the lead.

Hollywood took notice and Daniel was offered the chance to direct ‘Safe House’ with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.
He also gave his favourite Swedish actor a chance to appear in it.
This turned out to be the springboard into Hollywood that Joel needed.

Daniel’s latest film is ‘Child 44’
It is in post production and stars Joel alonside Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman.
Looks like Daniel likes to keep his favourite actors.

Anyway, I have read today that Daniel is in talks with Warner Bros to develop and direct ‘Blood On Snow’
It is apparantly a two-book series by crime novelist Jo Nesbo.
They will tell the story of a hit man who’s forced to go into hiding after he fails on a job and finds himself on the run with his intended target, who happens to be his boss’s wife.

Leonardo DiCaprio is apparantly eyeing it as a potential star vehicle.
I however, am hoping that now he has Robocop under his belt and three more big Hollywood productions in post production, maybe….. just maybe…. Joel will be given the chance to lead this project or at the very least, get the next best part.
The timing couldn’t be any better.
Three movies in post production and ‘The Killing’ coming to an end.
Joel must be looking for his next project.

I’m keeping my eye on this one!!

OK, I apologise now for the unreserved ‘gushing’ that is about to follow.

My last Dish of the Week was number 54 – Joel Kinnaman or Robocop, you decide.
The interest had only just reared it’s ugly head.

After 4 viewings of Robocop, an entire series catchup with ‘The Killing’ and a movie called Easy Money, I can now confirm that I have hit stalker level on my obsession with Joel Kinnaman.
So Dish of the Week number 55 is definately Joel Kinnaman.

He was born on the 25th November 1979, making him cradle snatcher material for a middle aged, mid life crisis mum!
He was born in Stockholm, Sweden to a Swedish Mother and an American Father.
His real name is Charles Joel Nordström.
He has a big sister called Melinda Kinnaman.

I say ‘big’ sister but he towers over her at just under 6’3″

He has a beautiful girlfriend in actress Olivia Munn and he is a snappy dresser!

His character in The Killing,  Det Stephen Holder, is a little hard to love at first.
You are made to feel very wary of him for the first half of the first season.
Then his character starts to flourish.
He has quirks and is very street wise.
He is also a battling ex heroine addict!
Most of the time he wears hoodies and jackets and jeans that you are just dying to pull up all the time!
Occasionally though, he does make an effort to smarten up.

His Character in Easy Money, Johan, is just an innocent young man, trying to make his way in the world who gets caught up in a string of events he can’t get out of.
He goes from being a hard working, fun loving student trying to fit in with the rich kids.

To a rabbit in the headlights when he gets in too deep.

Easy Money is one of a trilogy of movies and the second one is due on DVD in April.

Other than Robocop that I’ve blogged about enough before, I have yet to see him in anything else.
Getting hold of his older work is difficult, if not impossible.
The only other film I have found is ‘Lola Versus’ and that should be arriving on my doorstep any day now.

The future is looking rosey however as he has 3 films in post production.
Run All Night is due for release in February 2015 and Joel stars with Liam Neeson.
Then there’s Child 44 in which he stars with Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman. No date yet.
Then there’s Knight of Cups in which he stars with Christian Bale. Again, no date set yet.

So, lot’s to look forward to, including the final 6 episodes of The Killing currently being filmed.
I just wish he’d do something a little more light hearted.
He has a beautiful smile, he just doesn’t get to use it very often!!

It had to be done didn’t it?
I’ve just gone ahead and watched ‘Easy Money’ on demand, even though the DVD is winging it’s way to me through the post.
I just couldn’t resist, I have no willpower.

Am I glad I did?
Shit yeah!!

What an amazing film.
I didn’t find the subtitles as distracting as I thought I would and oh my God can Joel Kinnaman act!!

Easy Money 01

For the first half hour he was light and bright and happy and completely innocent.
A side I haven’t seen him play before and it was lovely to see that sheepish smile creeping in.

Easy Money 03

Then he started that slide into a life he really new nothing about and wasn’t prepared for.
He learnt the hard way that money doesn’t really come that easy!

The last 15 minutes of the film sees him deliver a stunning portrayal of a really conflicted man.
I am really looking forward to getting my hands on Easy Money 2.

And just to finish this review off, as the film is Swedish, I thought I’d drop it into Google translate and post the results.
For anyone who is Swedish, I apologise now if the translation is crap.
I’d really like to know if it comes close though!!!

Oh dear!!

I have known for some time now that I am classed as a ‘Fangirl’
I’m not ashamed to admit it either!

The Urban Dictionary definition of a Fangirl is as follows….

A rabid breed of human female who is obesessed with either a fictional character or an actor.
Fangirls congregate at anime conventions and livejournal.
Have been known to glomp, grope, and tackle when encountering said obesessions.Well if the anime conventions are replace with multi media conventions and Livejournal is replaced with WordPress and Tumblr then that definition is spot on!
I love the use of the word ‘rabid’.
My husband has stated that we are never visiting New Zealand because I would be arrested for stalking Karl Urban!
Anyway, I suppose I have always been a Fangirl to some degree.
Starting with The Bay City Rollers in the 70’s and then Adam and the Ants and Duran Duran back in the 80’s.
All through those years however, movies played a bigger part in my life.
I lived and breathed movies.
I was the person everyone came to for answers to movie questions.
I would drag my poor old Dad out to a movie he really didn’t want to see because my friends wouldn’t go.
I even made a deal with a friend to go to a George Michael concert if she came to see Robocop with me.
I definately got the better end of the deal. George was amazing!

As I got older my tastes matured but my Fangirling was always on the back burner.
That is until the early 1990’s when my inner Geek found it’s ‘out’ in the form of Star Trek.
This was a show I had always loved and watched…. on my own.
None of my friends and family were ever into it, but as I was now earning money and it was the 25th anniversary, I decided to join a club of like minded people and go to my first convention.
This is how I met my husband and we spent the best part of 10 years going to conventions and multi media events until it was just too much with family commitments.

Now that my kids are of an age where they can be left on their own for a few hours we have decided to regain some of our shared interests.
I suppose it really started for me back on September 21st 2012.
My Fangirling really stepped up a gear when I became completely besotted with Karl Urban.
It is actually quite frightening how something so simple can completely take over your life.

For the last year and a half Karl has been my everything when it came to movies and recently TV too!!
However, he doesn’t really have anything new for me to see until ‘hopefully’ the end of August if ‘The Loft’ finally gets the release we’ve all been waiting for.
So there’s been a bit of a lull in what’s been available for Fangirling.
Just enough time for another suiter to weazle his way into my heart.

February 7th was the date to be exact.
The arrival of Robocop and subsequently Joel Kinnaman.
I can’t explain what it is that attracts me really. He’s not your usual kind of handsome.
He has a wonderful smile but trying to find a phot of him really smiling is not easy. He likes to smoulder more than smile.
I immediately started working my way through ‘The Killing’ on Netflix, the only other thing to date that I’ve seen him in.
He has a vulnerability to his acting. He doesn’t have to speak to show his anquish, you see it in his eyes and written all over his face.
The fact that he is just over 6’2″ and ‘built’ doesn’t hurt either. (6’7″ in his Robocop suit!)

He is simply amazing looking…. and as Stephen Holder (The Killing) would say ‘Oh Snap!!’

But I have a problem.
Joel Kinnaman started his acting career in Sweden.
So the bulk of his early work to date is in Swedish and totally unavailable on DVD with English subtitles.
A Fangirls nightmare!

Doesn’t mean that there’s absolutely nothing however.
I am taking a chance on ‘Easy Money’, a Swedish film with English subs that looks really good and should be arriving on my doorstep by Weds.
If it’s any good and I can deal with the subs, Easy Money 2 is out on DVD in april.
I have literally just found ‘Lola Versus’ which is thankfully an English speaking film and that should also been on my doorstep before Weds.
It’s a comedy and after the depressing seriousness of ‘The Killing’ and the mentally traumatic Robocop, it’s going to be great to see him in a comedy.
I’m going to have a great day off on Weds!

It’s been a quiet morning.
I’ve been a good girl.
I made a shopping list and put a few things into the cupboards and freezer.
I’ve planned food for the next four days and even stocked up on packup items for the kids next week.
I did it all within budget.
I’ve just been and filled my car up for the month and that too, came in under budget.

So, I had a think and then I was a naughty girl.
As I had saved enough from my petrol budget I went onto the Tesco Entertainment site and purchased ‘Easy Money’ starring Joel Kinnaman.
It may be in Swedish with English subs but I don’t really care.
It looks like a good film. My kind of drama, thriller, action movie.
It’s just going to take some getting into,  having to read the subs constantly!!

I needed to do something.
After finishing ‘The Killing’ and promising myself that seeing Robocop 4 times was enough, I’m actually having Kinnaman withdrawal symptoms.
I need to figure out how to change the DNS server on my Netflix account so I can watch the American Netflix.
The UK one is severley lacking in all the things I want to watch.

At least Netflix have comissioned and started filming 6 final episodes for ‘The Killing’
Can’t wait to see how they end it all.
I hope it has a good ending for Linden and Holder.
The one overall defining thing about the series so far is that these two characters don’t have a very happy life.
They do however, fit together as a team very well. They empathise with each other.
They seriously need to get out of Seattle!!
The show does nothing to promote seattle at all. It always seems to be dark, damp and dreary.

Anyway, getting off subject now.
I am actually going to attempt a bit of college work.
There’s something I never thought I’d hear myself saying at this age!

I have a small dilema.

As anyone who reads my blog regularly will know, my current obsession is Joel Kinnaman, aka Robocop.
I’ve been working my way through ‘The Killing’ on Netflix and find myself really getting into it.
Joel’s character, Det Stephen Holder, starts off as a bit of a slime and a not so likeable character.

However, he grows on you.
He has issues, ex addict/tweeker, estranged sister and nephew and ever so slowly he weazles his way in until you are completely taken with him.
He’s a good guy. He’s loyal.
I’ve just reached the season 3 finale and he is now also guilt ridden and I am completely smitten with him.

Anyway, I want to see more of Joel’s work.
I know I have three films in post production to look forward to but prior to ‘The Killing’ the bulk of his work was made in Sweden.
Joel has an American Father and a Swedish Mother.
He grew up in Sweden and that’s where his acting career started.
There are two films in particular I want to see.
Easy Money and Easy Money 2.

I’ve seen the trailers and they look really good. The type of action movie I really like.
The only issue I have is that they are in Swedish with English subtitles.
I don’t get on with subtitles but if it means I get to listen to Joel speaking Swedish I think it could be worth it.

Anyway, I didn’t get the college work done today.
I must remember not to get into a TV show or obsess about someone when I need to study!!
I’m going to get my uniform ready for work and then I’m going to sit and mope.
I have nothing else with Joel in that I can watch!!
Even the on Demand service has stopped showing ‘The Darkness’, a sci fi horror with Joel in it, just as I wanted to watch it.
I can only find Easy Money on DVD that I have to send away for.
Guess I’ll just have to be patient.
