RED CARPET

Dune premiered at the Venice film Festival yesterday and photos of the red carpet have been flooding my feeds this morning.

May be an image of 11 people, people standing and indoor

The men always have it easy when it comes to red carpets.
They simply stick to a classy black tux and always look good.
Oscar Isaac looked particularly scrummy in his all black look with no tie.

However, the women are always scrutinised more and have to work a lot harder at their look.
I have to say that Zendaya looked amazing and her dress almost looked like she’d been vacuum sealed into it!

But….. I have to say….. what the hell was Rebecca Ferguson wearing?!!

Venice Film Festival 2021: Rebecca Ferguson commands attention on the red carpet

The best description I can come up with is that it looks like lady bits and diarrhoea!

Anyway, reviews are coming in and they are all pretty much saying that the film is fantastic!
I can’t wait to see it and it is being released here in the UK just in time for my birthday!

ONE WEEK DOWN

First week of annual leave….done.
I have been on a wind down and now my body refuses to move!!

I’ve not done too much so far.
I did get out to the cinema and a meal with the husband a few days ago and went to my first open mic night in over a year with Murron and her partner Jordan and my mate Debbie on Monday evening.
It was a lovely catch up with a few of the music family and we even got Murron up for a song!

The rest of the time has been spent doing the usual household chores and some gardening.
These chores never seem so bad when you know you haven’t got to think about work the next day.

I’ve also been watching some of the Olympics.
The best bit so far has been Tom and Matty winning the 10m Synchro diving gold!!
I’ve been watching Tom’s career since he was 12 years old and I’ve watched him go through heartbreak when he lost his Dad, come out publicly, find the love of his life, lose his mojo and almost quit, had a son and then found his mojo again! I’ve seen him mature and grow into an amazing young man and this week he finally nabbed an Olympic Gold Medal for the 10m Synchro Diving. He is on a roll and still has the individual 10m platform diving to go at the end of next week.

A new trailer for Dune dropped 6 days ago and if you read my blog regularly you will know that I have been REALLY looking forward to this film. It should have been released at Xmas last year but because of COVID it was delayed. It is now being released 3 days before my birthday on October 21st and IT LOOKS AMAZING!!

Something else that was released just a day ago was the official advert for the Burberry Hero campaign starring Adam Driver!!
OMG!! After a year long Adam drought we are finally rewarded with this!! Hot is an understatement.

Of course Twitter has gone mental and we have been rewarded with loads of new Adam photos.

On to the next week and apart from getting the car MOT’d on Friday, there’s not much going on except chilling and watching the Olympics. It’s the build up to our time away in London next Wednesday.

CAN I CRY NOW?

We all know that 2020 has been an absolute shit show of a year.

With all that’s happened, I actually consider my circumstances to be pretty good.
As a nurse I have seen, first hand, the effect this pandemic has had but thankfully, I am a Paediatric nurse, and apart from being seasonally busy and having to make some changes to work practice, Paediatrics has not really been effected and I have managed to keep my sanity and my job over the last few months.

My husband has settled into working from home and it has actually benefitted him health wise. With the lack of travelling making his days a lot less strenuous, he is not taking as much medication as he was prior to the pandemic and he is actually producing more work. His company have seen the benefits and working from home may become a permanent thing.

My two youngest kids have got through furlough with their jobs still in tact and have both just started back at University.

My eldest has actually made a life changing move. She managed to find the love of her life during lockdown and has now moved out.
I’ve never seen her so happy!

So why the blog?

Anyone who knows me, knows I love my movies.
They are my way of relaxing and getting my head out of the real world for a while.
So, as you can imaging, the last 6 months have been tough with the lack of new movies making it to the big screen.

There were plans for a few big movies before Xmas but after the new James Bond Movie got put back for a second time earlier this week, Cineworld announced a temporary closure of all it’s branches for the forseable future.
They simply cannot afford to run them when furlough ends and there are no new movies pulling in the customers.

OK, I can live with a temporary closure, however, I doubt they will reopen every single outlet.
This would be the time that they weed out the older screens requiring upgrades and refurbs and unfortunately I think my local Cineworld falls into that category.

Only time will tell on that one.

Jamed Bond was one big movie that we were looking forward to before Xmas but there was another movie that I was looking forward to more.
Dune!!

It looks like Dune may have had its release date pushed back from Dec 18th this year to October 1st next year!!
I could cry, I really could! The only new film I’ve seen in the cinema since March is Tenet.

IT’S NOT ENOUGH!!!

I was really looking forward to this film and I’ve already waited long enough for it.
The thought of waiting a whole year is devastating.

I’ve just checked the IMDB site and it is now confirmed.
I’ve just re-set the milestone clock to the left of my blog and it has gone from a 74 day count down back to a 12 month wait!!

HOW DEPRESSING!!

A GOOD DAY

So today has been a good day.
It started off with a well earned little lay in before a planned weekly meet up with an old friend to watch the first three episodes of the new season of The Boys.

These episodes were officially released onto Prime on 4th Sept, but I resisted the urge to watch them until today.

I was not disappointed.
The set up story line for season 2 is looking really good and it is still packed with bad language, guts and gore, a corrupt business, superheroes who are not actually superheroes, superheroes who ARE superheroes, superheroes who were bad but could be turning to the light, and normal every day humans who just want to get to the bottom of it all….. and Karl Urban as Billy Butcher!!

After that, a few little chores were done as I eagerly awaited the long anticipated trailer for the new ‘Dune’ movie.

Again, I was not disappointed. This looks amazing!!

However, what I didn’t expect today was the presentation Q+A as a build up to the trailer reveal.
All the major characters/actors, lots of behind the scenes footage and just mouthwatering moments to keep us entertained until the film arrives in December.

So now I can go to bed happy.
I even get another lay in tomorrow as my Paediatric Life Support recertification course doesn’t start until 10am!

Happy days.

THE MEANING OF FRUSTRATION

The ongoing saga of the Dune trailer.
I am literally starting to pull my hair out waiting for this.

I blogged about this film back in April as the world was shutting down.
We were given our first glimpse into the look and feel of the Director, Denis Villeneuve’s take on the Frank Herbert saga.

This wet my whistle more than a little and after these images were released, fans started speculating about the first trailer and when we would get our first really good look into the movie which was set for release on Dec 18th.

With that release date, fans were expecting a full trailer by August.
We waited.
And waited.
And waited.
.
.
.
And waited some more.

It looked like the pandemic may have slowed things down a bit.
The film was in it’s final stages when the pandemic struck and in a recent interview, Director Denis Villeneuve stated…..

“As a director there are things that can be done remotely to deal with technology. The supervision of VFX with some equipment is easy to do from afar but, editing, for me, the big lesson from this is I thought it would be possible to edit at a distance.”
He went on to add that editing is like “playing music” with someone, and it requires two people in one space to complete the process”.
“To edit my movie [whilst] not being in the same room as my editor is very, very painful.”

So here we are now coming to the end of August and STILL no trailer.

However……

There is light at the end of the tunnel.
Allegedly, the teaser trailer will debut ahead of select screenings of Tenet from August 31.

The 1 minute and 37 second teaser has already seen bootleg images posted on social media.

According to Trailer Track, the cinematic trailer is a only a teaser, while the full trailer will land online on September 9!!

teen writing tips | The Loony Teen Writer

So that’s another 2 weeks to wait!!!

There are some claims today that the teaser is already showing ahead of Tenet in some countries which would explain the leaked images.

Someone who has already seen the teaser has stated…

“Although the 1:37 runtime whisked by in a flash, I could not have been more impressed with the look of this film and the way Villeneuve and company are capturing the world of Dune.
“I have no doubt in my mind that the official trailer that drops online on September 9 is going to melt faces and blow minds.”

I just hope that the full trailer doesn’t push back the release date because that would just be a killer!!

So! Do I take a trip to the cinema to see Tenet tonight?
Probably not. I’m working tomorrow and Ian doesn’t want to go tonight.

So the wait goes on!!

SPOKE TOO SOON

After blogging about how terrible I felt yesterday, I’ve actually had a pretty good day today!

I still had a mid afternoon nap, but I actually ‘feel’ better than I have in a long time. It may just be a ‘good’ day, and only time will tell, but it has actually been a relief.

Anyway, I saw an article pop up today that reminded me of what I was missing the most in this lock down.

May The 18th 1927 was the day ‘Grauman’s Chinese Theater’ Opened In Hollywood.

The iconic building now houses a custom designed IMAX theatre that can seat 932 people and has one of the largest screens in North America.

Grauman's Chinese Theatre, by Carol Highsmith fixed & straightened.jpg

The theatre hosted the Academy Awards in 1944, 1945 and 1946 and there are nearly 200 celebrity handprints, footprints and autographs in the forecourt.

Since 2011, there has been a surge of concrete ceremonies. However, many of these have been paid for by movie studios for publicity reason. They are referred to as ‘mock ceremonies.’ Despite this increase, the ones placed in the forecourt are still chosen by special committee which selects celebrities based on their contributions to Hollywood cinema. Practice blocks, completed inside the theatre before the ceremony, are placed on the walls of the 6 theatre lobby, which is also used as an event space.

And that all reminded me of just how much I miss going to the cinema!!
Yeah, I have my movies at home, but nothing beats going to see a film on the big screen and maybe making a day of it and going out for dinner too.

With everything on hold, there have been movies I have wanted to see that have had release dates pushed back, or no new dates announced at all.
This week ‘should’ have been the Cannes film festival and Adam Driver’s new movie ‘Annette’ should have premiered!! Now we don’t know if it will release this year or early next year.

As for Adam, he still has about 8 weeks of filming to finish in Ireland on ‘The Last Duel’, the film he was in the middle of in France with Matt Damon.
They were just about to move production from France to Ireland when the world shut down. Adam returned home and we haven’t heard a squeak out of him since!

One film I have been keeping an eye on is ‘Dune’. We have been getting little snippets of news and photos in the last couple of weeks and it is still slated for a Dec 18th release. Fans are just hoping that a trailer will drop soon. I for one am really looking forward to seeing how it will look.
I loved the 1984 version with Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides, but I don’t think it has stood the test of time very well.

Kyle MacLachlan in Dune (1984)

With current special effects and Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, I can’t wait to see what they have done. It is a huge sweeping story that was kinda rushed through in 1984 but ‘Denis Villeneuve’, the director of the new one, has split the story into 2 films, which has given me hope that the studio have got a lot of confidence in the final outcome of this movie.

If nothing else, I get to see Timothee Chalamet and Oscar Isaac like this!

For now, I will make do with my home movies. I added to my collection today with the release of ‘1917’.
Better than nothing.

CATCH UP

So how is everyone doing during this unprecedented period in history.
How is your lockdown going?

Personally, my lockdown is going OK.
As a Paediatric Nurse, I still go to work, however, there have been BIG changes to the ‘norm’.
The feeling on a day to day basis is ‘ominous’ rather than scary and I really feel for my colleagues who work on the adult side.

My family have ‘so far’ been relatively unaffected.
My parents live just around the corner and apart from dropping something on their doorstep and then stepping to the end of the garden for a quick chat with Mum at the door, I haven’t had any contact with them for over three weeks now.

The extended family appear OK, I keep up with what’s happening over Facebook and Whatsapp.

I had a brilliant evening on Sunday as me and two of my girls joined my Brother, his wife and their kids, my Dad, and few of my Brother’s friends, for an online pub quiz via Zoom that my Brother had arranged.
It turned out to be a good laugh and we won! which was a bonus.

I have been doing a weekly, rather than every other day, shop at the local superstore and we are lucky enough to have a mini market and butcher right over the road, so basics like milk, bread and eggs are readily available when we run out, unfortunately they are also licensed and the household alcohol consumption has gone through the roof!!

The kids continue with their evening walks for exercise and I really need to think about ramping up my own exercise as I am not up to my usual level of mobility. Sitting at home on days off, drinking and snacking, has seen my weight creeping up rather quickly and Ian has literally spent three weeks locked in our bedroom and only comes down for food.

Anyway, we haven’t got away from the Coronavirus completely unscathed.
There have been several losses from the local music community, one of which hit home pretty hard as my daughter lost one of her band mates last week. He was a much loved and highly respected member of the local music community and is going to leave a very large hole in the music scene when it gets back together after the lockdown.

One good thing on my days off, is that I now have the perfect excuse to binge my movies!!
I have been keeping a record of what I watch for a few years, particularly cinema trips, so that we make the most of our Cineworld cards, but last year got completely forgotten about as I came to the end of my University course and getting registered and starting my new job as a Nurse Associate. There just wasn’t time to think about films.

So in January, I decided to start fresh. I did not consider the lockdown that was to come, and although going to the cinema is only a dream at the moment, it has meant that I get to binge to my hearts content at home.
I’ve just done a bit of a tally and, considering we are only 106 days into the year, I have watched 131 movies!!

With the world shut down at the moment, and all movie filming and releases put on hold, I am getting no news or updates about any projects I’m interested in or indeed my favourite actors.

One actor in particular has done exactly what I expected him to do.
Adam Driver, is a fiercely private man at the best of times. Let’s face it, keeping the fact that you became a Daddy secret for two whole years is pretty good going!
After filming for ‘The Last Duel’ was put on Hiatus because of the Coronavirus, there has been no news about Adam. Nothing. Not even a notification to say he’d even made it home safely.
Anyway, I have no doubt he has locked himself away with his wife and son and their dog, Moose, and is enjoying his family before everything goes back to normal.

Until last night, things had been pretty dull when it came to anything to do with future movie releases and then BAM! we get a whole slew of new images from the new production of ‘Dune’, due for release in December.

Now Timothee Chalamet is playing Paul Atreides.
Anyone who reads my blog regularly will know that I have a soft spot for this young man and the first look at him as Paul is very promising.

BUT…..

The picture of Oscar Isaac who plays Paul’s father, Duke Leto, is something else!! Oh Daddy!

Now they’ve dangled these images at us, I hope they will be followed up by a first look trailer.
Then we only have to hope that this whole shit storm is over, and life is going back to normal by December so that it actually gets it’s release date on the 18th December.

Think I have just found a new countdown to add to my blog page.

Right, Keep that social distancing going. Stay safe. XX
