PETER RABBIT

OK, here is my quick review of Peter Rabbit.
I won’t deny that it’s a very biased review as one of my favourite actors is Domhnall Gleeson who plays Thomas McGregor.
The man can do no wrong in my eyes.
He’s beautiful, hilarious, can be totally serious when needed, does the doe eyes and panicked expressions perfectly.
Just look at this expression!!

Peter Rabbit 7

After the start of the all out war with the rabbits, Thomas is officially introduced to Peter by Bea and has to fain a begrudging smile and interest in the rabbits because he likes Bea and Bea likes the rabbits.

Anyway, back to Peter Rabbit (or General Hux gets a garden!!)

I have to admit, Peter Rabbit was a lot more enjoyable than I expected it to be.
I think that what made it more enjoyable was the fact that the audience consisted of lots of kids who absolutely adored the film and their giggles and laughter were infectious!
Although I was a little distraught at how many of the malicious little rug rats absolutely wet themselves when Thomas McGregor got electrocuted or hurt by the bunnies!!

When we first meet Thomas, he absolutely IS General Hux!!
Suited and not a hair out of place and is even said to be at his happiest when ‘rallying his troops’ as a manager at Harrods.

Peter Rabbit 2

Throughout the film, he is slowly reformed into a much more relaxed person who falls completely in love with the heroine of the movie, Bea and overcomes his hatred of rabbits.

Peter Rabbit 10

Ah, the rabbits, beautifully animated.

James Corden is absolutely perfect as Peter. Just the right side of confident and cocky, although Daisy Ridley’s crazy Cottontail is hilarious!!
That said, I think the rooster steals the show.
Waking every morning and shrieking his surprise at the return of the sun.

Peter Rabbit 9

He even gets his own little story arc with each morning becoming increasingly hilarious and concluding with a scene in the end titles that every parent can relate to.

I would have to conclude by saying that this film benefits from an audience of kids and that’s usually a real hate of mine.
Thoroughly enjoyable and worth a watch. Probably even better at a Saturday morning kids club showing!!

LAST DAY

So, I should technically be on placement today but I had arranged some annual leave before I was told that placements would be on Mondays as well as Tuesdays for a few weeks! So instead of losing it, I moved my placement to Wednesday. As long as I do the hours, it doesn’t matter when I do them.
It’s a fairly easy week anyway with just three early shifts. Two in placement and one on my own ward.

There’s only another three weeks to go before I have some more annual leave and I really can’t wait for that one.
Me and Ian are going to be spending 4 days in London and seeing Imagine Dragons at the O2. Excited is an understatement, although I’m not so sure Ian is looking forward to the show so much. Not really his cup of tea. Oh well, he can be my cameraman and get some pictures and video for me while I enjoy the show.

Speaking of Imagine Dragons, I’ve just watched the Mission: Impossible – Fallout Superbowl trailer and I have to say, I LOVE the use of Friction by Imagine Dragons and the way it’s been mixed with the Mission: Impossible theme!! Very clever.

We got another trailer release during the Superbowl last night too.
Solo: A Star Wars Story.

I have to say, my interest has piqued just a little.
I’ve been very dubious about this film from the start, from the announcement of Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo (Bad choice IMHO) right through to the last minute change in Director, which is also a bad Omen.

Anyway, judging by this teaser, the feel of the film is actually quite good. I love anything Imperial and the visual image of that Star Destroyed coming through what looks like a cloud/vortex is stunning!

Star Destroyer

I guess we’ll be finding out in May if it’s any good. I know that it’s not being well received by fans who are not happy about ‘anything’ these days tbh!

Anyway, back to today.
I think I’m going to get stuck back into my book. I started reading ‘Beautiful Boy’ yesterday and it’s really good. It really makes you think and you feel so sorry for the Dad who did everything right in his child’s life. Did everything he could to ‘prevent’ the events of the book but at the end of the day, it’s the child’s decision to do what they do.
I’ve only just got to Nic graduating from High School. I suspect the rest of the book will have me in pieces, especially as I have a clear image in my head of Timothee Chalamet playing the role in the soon to be released movie of the same name.

First, I have to do a quick trip to Tesco.
I don’t need much but it’s movie release day and I want to have a look at what’s out.

I’ve just done my morning troll through the internet with my cuppa and I just had to post this.

Collider.com have released a review of Peter Rabbit and although they don’t exactly pan the movie, they don’t really sing it’s praises either.

However, they do state the following…..

“The one shining aspect of the film is Gleeson. He basically plays Thomas McGregor like General Hux got a garden. His deadly serious tone and physical comedy are perfectly pitched, and he manages to walk the line between a guy who wants to murder our heroes (despite the rabbits not being particularly likable) and the love-interest for Bea. It’s an impressive turn in a movie that doesn’t really deserve his talents. While it’s no surprise that Gleeson is talented at comedy (he got his start on the Irish sketch comedy series Your Bad Self), the movie is at its best when the focus is on McGregor rather than Peter”

YES!! General Hux with a garden!!
BRING IT ON!
General Hux Garden

PETER RABBIT!

OK, so here’s a bit of a gush before I get cracking on….. I can’t decide.
It’s either a book.
Some new sheet music.
Or I get my old sketchpad out.

Anyway, I’m getting a little bit excited for a movie due here in the UK on March 16th.
Frustratingly, it’s being release THIS week in the States!! NOT FAIR!!

Peter Rabbit!!

When I first heard about it I was more than a little dubious.
I’ve never been a huge Peter Rabbit fan growing up. I’d seen and read the books but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Then I found out that Domhnall Gleeson was playing Mr McGregor and all I could picture was this……

Mr Mcgregor

Until I saw a photo of Domhnall filming that looked like this!!!….

SWEET MOTHER OF MERCY!!

Funnily enough, my interest suddenly piqued.
Then the trailers started appearing and were followed by clips and interviews and now I wholehearted can’t wait to see this film.

Domhnall is at his best doing comedy anyway, but he’s never really had the chance to really show off his ‘physical’ comedy and that looks like what he’s been able to do with this film.

Here, have a couple of tasters.

Can I just say that his usually red hair (which I do love, I won’t deny it) dyed brown is actually a really sexy look on him!!

GOODBYE 2017. HELLO 2018

It’s been a year of mixed emotions.
Predominantly good ones.

Murron has ‘finally’ found a job she absolutely loves!
She works bar at a pub in Bedford but also works bar at it’s Sister pub in Luton.
She gets on like a house on fire with the manager in Luton and stays with her in the flat above the pub when she’s working there multiple days.
They go out partying after work and I can (thankfully) see this being a long term thing.
She can work it around her Open Mic nights too, so it’s really the best of both worlds for her.
For now, I’m just happy she’s happy!

Marjorie is still just Marjorie!
She’s into her second year of college and is still working part time for MacDonalds.
She’s loving the freedom a little cash is giving her.
She’s also applied to stay at the college to start a foundation degree in Sept.

Dharma is into her last few months of school!!
How scary is that?!
Right now she’s stressing herself about her exams which I can understand but it’s hard when you see someone being just a little bit too hard on themselves!
She’s also finding it very difficult seeing her sisters with money and can’t wait to get her NI number so that she can start applying for jobs.
Personally, I’m glad she can’t do it just yet as it would just be an added stresser in her final months of school.
She has also applied for a couple of college courses in Sept and I really hope she gets the qualifications she needs from her exams to be able to do them.

Ian has had a rough year physically.
His arthritis really hasn’t been under control for the entire year and he’s struggled the last few weeks with a nasty case of tonsillitis.

Up until Boxing Day, I had had a pretty good year health wise. However, I woke on boxing day with, what can only be described as, a case of flu!
I hurt all over, my head wanted to explode and I had a hacking dry cough and streaming eyes.
Today is really the first day I feel semi-normal.
I got woken by a hacking cough that seems to be worse when I’m laying down but now that I’ve been up a while the cough has eased off and only catches me occasionally.

So let’s have a little run down….

January started how it should do, with a trip to the cinema to see my BAE in Silence.
To say it’s an emotional film is an understatement.

I started wearing contact lenses.
It was something I had toyed with for a while but as my brother’s wedding in Italy was looming, I decided to give them a go.
I wish I had done it sooner.
It’s so liberating not having to worry about glasses all the time.

In February my BAE did a live Snickers advert for the Superbowl.

Dharma and her friend Reece decided to raise money for the Riverbank Sensory Garden Project and between them they raise over £650!!
They were helped along quite nicely by the DJ at my Dad’s 70th Birthday party.
They walked away from that with nearly £300. It was incredible.
The fund did so well, so quickly, that the garden was actually finished and opened in October. 2 years ahead of schedule!!

February also saw me get offered the opportunity to further my career by taking on a Foundation Degree as a Nursing Associate.

In March I discovered Sens8.
Why I hadn’t discovered this before is beyond me!
What an amazing show.
Pity that Netflix decided to cancel it at the end of the second season.
To be honest, I’m not surprised. The show is a logistical nightmare to film and because of all the different locations around the world it must have been really expensive too.
Of course the cancellation caused absolute uproar with the fans, so Netflix are at least giving us ‘closure’ with a finale episode in 2018.

‘Paterson’ came out on DVD.
I love this unassuming little film.
OK OK, my BAE Adam Driver is in it but what makes it extra special for me is that I went to see this at a preview showing in London in November 2016 and Adam Driver did a Q+A at the end of the showing!!
The very same Q+A is on the DVD release!

Yes, I can happily say that ‘I’ took this photo!!

In April, my work life changed dramatically. I officially enrolled and started as a Uni student. From now on my Mondays are to be spent in Uni, my Tuesdays are spent in placement and the remainder of my work hours are spent in my own work place.
Gone is my free time as writing referenced essays has put paid to any free time I may have had for the next two years!

I sneaked in an IMAX viewing of The force Awakens.

Here we go…
The teaser trailer and poster for Last Jedi were finally revealed at the Celebrations convention. The build up to the movie had begun and we still had 8 months to wait!

I wrote my last piece of fan fiction for a while. It was called ‘Lace’ and involved a certain force wielding babe and a pair of red lacey knickers!!
I will not be posting links to any of my fan-fiction here because my family read my blogs.
There is no way I want them reading my fics.

May was fairly boring.
I upped my excercising and dieting that was going really well in preparation for Italy.

In June I had a wonderful weekend in London with Ian. We had tickets to the Royal Albert Hall to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra do ‘Space Spectacular’.
‘A voyage through a galaxy of favourite music from deep space and beyond, with lights, lasers and indoor fireworks’
I went for the obligatory ‘John Williams’ music and I was not disappointed. It was an amazing show.

And they played my all time favourite Star Wars piece!! Duel of the Fates.

20170617_162732

The rest of the weekend was amazing.
We picked a weekend with great weather and we just spent time walking around, having wonderful food and lots of drink.

I was a little impulsive when we went to Soho and got myself an industrial piercing.

In July my Uni course was in full swing and I passed my first essay. I also passed my maths exam and completed a joint presentation which was a frustrating challenge.

On my way to Uni one Monday morning I discovered a note under one of my wiper blades. It read ‘Stunningly beautiful’ and left a phone number.
To say it put a smile on my face was an understatement.

When filming wrapped on The Last Jedi, we got some amazing behind the scenes footage that just stoked the fires of the fans as their theories and predictions went into full meltdown.

Kylo Ren’s Tie Silencer was revealed and it was as sleak and sexy as it’s pilot.

A groundbreaking show called ‘Queer Britain’ presented by Riyadh Khalaf and originally airing on BBC3 was given BBC1 status.
I’m so happy for Riyadh!
The show is amazing and heartbreaking and eye opening. Check it out.
Keep your eyes peeled for this very charismatic young man. He’s going to go far.

I had a mid-life crisis breakthrough as after 48 years, I finally found my look.
A look I am still working on.
My hair is as short as it will go without using clippers and it is so liberating to not have to worry about styling it every morning.
I have a piercing I wouldn’t have dared get when I was younger and I have got the tattoo bug.

August has to be voted ‘Month of the Year’
I spent 10 days in Italy with Mum and Dad for my little Bro’s wedding.
I saw Sienna, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano and cried when I saw Florence.

And I had a close encounter with a wild porcupine and a mouse!!

IMG_0669

On returning from Italy I was presented with a new movie with my BAE Adam Driver.

But I also got a movie with my other boy Domhnall Gleeson. (Who comes in a hot second to Adam)

It was back to normality in September and October.
Domhnall had 2 more movies out (the guy never stops working!!!)
He had a very creepy appearance in ‘Mother’ but then it was followed by an amazing performance as AA Milne in ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’

I did go out with Ian for a couple of meals and movies around my birthday.
Uni ended at the end of October which meant I was now spending more time in my own work place again, although placements would be carrying on on Tuesdays.

November saw me indulging in my biggest tattoo yet.
I finally got the first order logo on my shoulder.
It’s a work in progress and I plan on expanding it.

December finally arrived and the AGONISING two year wait was over as The Last Jedi finally got released.
I loved it but it has divided the fandom.
It certainly did not go the way anyone thought it would go.
We knew that Adam had done a lot of filming with Daisy in Ireland on Skellig Michael, but everyone assumed there was going to be a huge battle with Kylo and his Knights against Luke and Rey…. HOW WRONG WE WERE.
Their scenes ended up being some of the most intimate in Star Wars history!

We also discovered that Snoke did not amount to anyone important and Rey was a complete nobody!! But not to Kylo (aaaahhh)

The discourse that this film has produced is incredible.
It seems to be a bit of a marmite movie. Fans either love it, or hate it.

Just 2.5 weeks after it’s release, it is sitting at number 43 in the all time worldwide box office chart and has raked in over $930 million!
It will be interesting to see how close to Force Awakens it gets considering that Force Awakens is sitting at number 3 with just over 2 billion in box office takings….. insane!

With Star Wars out of the way after 4 viewings, it was time to enjoy Xmas and we did.
Xmas day was a lovely day but things took a nosedive on boxing day when I came down with a flu.

I’m not feeling too bad today, just left with an annoying cough.
So, work it is tomorrow then. I can’t let them down on New Years Eve of all days!!

So that was bisically my year.
I’m sure a lot more happened that I’m forgetting about.
Now….

What about the movies?
Me and Ian continued with our trips to the cinema to utilise our Unlimited Cards.
Since getting the cards I have kept track of all the movies I watch in a year.
In 2014, I watched a total of 341 films with 48 of them at the cinema.
In 2015, I watched a staggering 379 films with 64 of them at the cinema.
In 2016, I watched 301 films with 48 of them at the cinema.
This year saw a big dip because of all the time I spent on Uni work.
In 2017, I have (so far) watched only 164 films with 52 of them at the cinema.

So Uni hasn’t really interfered with going ‘out’ to the cinema, but it has certainly affected the time I spend watching them at home.

The coming year will probably see even more of a dip as I go from level 4 to level 5 of my Foundation Degree.
This coming year will see me learning about dispensing some medications and will ‘hopefully’ end with me qualifying and getting my pin and registration with the NMC!!

The only time away I will get to spend with Ian is a trip to London at the beginning of March. We are going to see Imagine Dragons at the O2 and I can’t wait.
We decided to make a break of it and booked 3 nights in a hotel. The weather may not be as good as it was in June but I adore London and can’t wait to take it all in again.

Apart from that trip, it’s going to be a tough and frugle year all round!!

I will use this site as a sounding board if my feathers get ruffled.
I may not blog as much as I’d like but I just want to get 2018 out of the way…… and it hasn’t even arrived yet!!!

SORRY, CAN’T HELP MYSELF.

Gone are the days when I can stay up until 1:30 am to watch a red carpet event, so this morning’s coffee was spent catching up on last nights events at the ‘Last Jedi’ world premiere in Los Angeles.

To say that Adam looked stunning is an understatement.

Domhnall looked like he was having a blast.

One of the most amusing photos of the evening was the one taken of Gwendoline Christie and Adam.
She is one of the few people on the planet that can make a 6’3″ Adam look like a midget!

1962

The tweets have been rolling in ever since and the buzz is very positive.

One tweet caught my attention….

2

Does this mean we are getting some Kylo skin?!!!

Image result for hell yes gif

So! Now that I have that off my chest.
This morning saw us waking up to snow.
We get a little excited when we get snow as we don’t get it all that often.
I decided to venture to Tesco with Dharma before coming home and doing a little tidying.
I’m now going to have some lunch before I tackle the last of my essay.

If the snow continues overnight, getting to work tomorrow is going to be fun.

MY FAVOURITE THEORY

OK, so with only 10 days until I’m preparing myself for a Star Wars double bill with Force Awakens followed by a midnight showing of Last Jedi, I thought I’d talk about theories, or more specifically, one theory in particular.

There are hundreds of theories flying around the internet about what people think is going to happen in the next movie.
One of the most anticipated conundrums is ‘who’ are Rey’s parents.
The discourse this question has created is a movie in it’s own right.

I am, thankfully, one of those people that can read a theory and then analyse it a little to decide whether or not it’s a possibility.

So far, in my oppinion, I do NOT believe the following three main theories…….

Rey is Kylo’s sister……. C’mon, that would be way too obvious and a little disappointing if Rian hasn’t come up with something just a little more original.

Reylo is canon…… Mmmmm….. not so sure. I certainly believe that Rey and Kylo are going to be collaborating and as much as I’d love a happy ending for them as a pair, I don’t think this will be happening either. Sorry.

Rey is a Kenobi……. wishful thinking from the fans. They are desperate to get a Kenobi in there somewhere but I just don’t think this is the way to do it. Although the following theory could prove me wrong.

I love reading theories.
The way people will latch onto tidbits of information from various sources and then come up with ideas is facinating.
A lot of the time you have a little laugh at the rediculousness of an idea, but occasionally you find yourself saying ‘actually, that’s not such a bad idea, that could actually work’.

A few weeks ago I read about a theory that I initially thought ‘really?’
But as I read more and more about why and how they came up with theory, I thought ‘actually, that’s not such a bad idea, that could actually work’.

I came across a Tumblr post by lilolgf.tumblr.com who theorised that ‘Rey is General Armitage Hux’s half sister’

That’s where I thought ‘really?’
It was so off the track of any other theory I’d read about that I decided to carry on reading.

So! I sincerely hope that lilolgf doesn’t mind me picking their post to pieces!!

They have taken into consideration the ‘Aftermath’ trilogy of books that are set between the Return of the Jedi and the Force Awakens.
These books give us a lot of information about Hux’s family and his childhood and as lilolgf points out ‘there seems to be a lot of focus on a character who had about 5 minutes of screen time’ in Force Awakens. Almost like he’ll play a bigger part than we’ve been led to believe’.

Oh I do hope so. I love Domhnall Gleeson and next to Kylo Ren, I love the character of General Hux.
Some would say a little too much!

Tattoo 2

Anyway, in the books we learn that Hux’s father is Brendol Hux. A high ranking officer who had an affair with an unnamed kitchen worker who was Hux’s mother. Yes, Hux is a bastard! He was physically and psychologically abused by his father which explains a lot about his cold character.

In the books, Hux’s home planet of Arkanis comes under attack by the New Republic and Brendol Hux and his son are evacuated but Hux’s mother is left behind. This attack was apparantly part of the civil war which ended with the battle of Jakku which is Rey’s home planet.

At this point, little bells are starting to go off in my head and then lilolgf goes on…….

Their theory is that Hux’s mother managed to escape Arkanis and went to Jakku, where she met Rey’s father and they had Rey but then had to leave her for some reason.
They go on to theorise that Rey’s father was a powerful jedi, maybe even Obiwan’s son. As neither Hux or his mother have the force, Rey’s dad would have and it makes sense if he were a Jedi.

As I started to do some math and get a little carried away with the age gap between Hux and Rey, lilolgf goes on to say…..

In TFA Rey is 19 and Hux is 34, while this gives a large 15 year age gap, in terms of time line it makes sense as Hux is 5-10 years old when he leaves Arkanis, which gives his mother 5-10 years to get to Jakku, meet Rey’s father and have Rey.

Age gap sorted!

It’s been revealed we will find out about Rey’s family in the TLJ and it makes sense for her to be related to characters we already know.
It wouldn’t make sense if she were Han and Leia’s daughter as they didn’t care much when she was kidnapped and Finn was freaking out.
For her family reveal to have an impact she needs to be related to a main character.
Her being Obiwan’s granddaughter is most likely but she could also be Hux’s half sister to have it relevant to the current plot.

OK!! I can live with that.
We know that both Kylo and Hux feel ‘entitled’ and are jossling each other for position and this could well be their catalyst.

Then lilolgf goes on to analyse the actors chosen to play the parts and draws on some interesting facts.

Rey and Hux are the only new characters with English accents so it’s plausible they’re related. Their facial structures are also kind of similar, which would have been taken into account when Daisy Ridley and Domnhall Gleeson were cast.

daisy and domhnall

lilolgf finishes off their theory by saying…..

It is stated that due to his upbringing Hux believes it’s his destiny to rule the galaxy, this could then create a parallel with Vader tempting Luke to rule the galaxy with him “as father and son”.

Hux is gonna play a bigger role in TLJ, he’s on the official posters, the cover of vanity fair and he appears in the Star Wars Tours footage.

I actually LOVE this theory!!
It will pit Hux against Kylo and it will mean that Domhnall will be seen a lot more during the next two films, although one theory I’ve read has General Hux going down in flames with his beloved Finalizer.

We know that Domhnall has signed for three films but in Hollywood this doesn’t mean anything except that they wanted to guarantee he’ll be available ‘if’ his character survives to the third movie.

Domhnall was worried about signing the contract. He has stated that ‘the fear of the fame almost stopped him from playing part of General Hux’ which is a strange thing to say about a character that had about three minutes of screen time!!

Personally I really hope this theory comes to fruition.
It will be amazing to see what Domhnall can do with General Hux if he really gets a chance to get his teeth into the part.
It would be a big enough ‘OMG’ moment to parallel ‘I am your father’

Having said all that, I know that it should all be taken with a pinch of salt because at the end of the day, we simply do NOT know how this film is going to go.

It doesn’t matter how many theories I’ve read, I will be going into this film with a clear and open mind. I can’t wait to see what ‘shock’ Rian has come up with and I can’t wait to see all the new discourse start flooding the internet as people start arguing about what Rian did right and what he did wrong.

HOUSE GUESTS!!

I had two new house guests arrive today!!!

Hux and Kylo

Lifesize Kylo and Hux. I feel like a midget!!
I also feel like I’m being judged everytime I walk into my living room.

Hux and Kylo 2

I mean, just look at that sneer on Hux’s face!
The pair of them watch you as you walk across the room.
It’s quite unnerving.

I don’t care. They are adding to our rapidly expanding collection.
We had intended to collect general film memorabilia but the living room and dining room have been taken over with Star Wars memorabilia at the moment.

WHO CARES!!!
