I DID A THING

So, I’ve done something I haven’t done in years.

I bought a magazine!!

Not that big a deal really until you see the front cover and understand WHY I bought this magazine.

GQ cover

The December issue of GQ magazine has a wonderful interview with Adam Driver and it’s chocked full of some wonderful images.

I think that this smouldering little beauty is my favourite!!

1745

Anyway, the interview is interesting. It does cover a lot of what I already know about Adam and how he got to where he is today but it also gives some insight into his life now that Star Wars has made him very recognisable.

How Carrie Fisher told him “Just pretend you’re down to earth. People love that shit.”

How Rian Johnson “had heard about Adam’s intensity before I worked with him, but he’s also really fun and funny.” and then goes on to reveal some of his antics between takes on set.

There’s a moment during the interview that he seemingly let’s slip quite a major plot point in the new movie when he talks about “the hidden identity of this princess who’s hiding who she really is”
But it goes on to say “in passionately holding forth, Driver is simply unaware he’s revealed anything, much less a major spoiler. In any case, he doesn’t skip a beat…..”

Was Adam just trying to put into words how he sees the whole saga or did he just reveal Rey as Kylo’s sister!!
We’ll just have to wait until December to find out.

I still snicker when I think that Adam is ‘technically’ a Disney Prince!!
But I digress…….

I think my favourite part of the interview comes when he’s describing his reaction to the premier of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
As an Adam fan, I know how much he hates publicity.
He struggles with anxiety and he’s incredibly uncomfortable singing his own praises and red carpets are an absolute nightmare for him.
When it comes to premieres and screenings of his films, he will do the red carpet bit, say ‘hi’ to the fans and disappear into the cinema. He will then head out the back door and return when the credits roll. He absolutely hates to watch his own performances.
The last two years have seen him becoming more and more comfortable with this however, and I hold out much hope that he will be seen a lot more in the marketing interviews et al, for The Last Jedi, but in this interview he recalls….

“When I watched the premier, I felt sick to my stomach. The people behind me, when the scroll started, were like ‘Oh my god. Oh my god. It’s happening.’ Immediately I thought I was going to puke. I was holding my wife’s hand, and she’s like, ‘You’re really cold. Are you OK?’ Because I just knew what was coming – I kill Harrison – and I didn’t know how this audience of 2,000 people was going to respond to it, you know?”

Poor baby thought he was going to be lynched!!

Anyway, time to put the magazine away and get some work done.
We’ve got one of our yearly inspections on the house we rent on Monday, so I am going into major cleaning mode for a couple of days.

Oh the joy.

MY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS

If you are one of these strange people who don’t like watching trailers before a movie is released, please do not go any further.
You have been warned.

OK, it’s been a few days now since the new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi hit the internet.
Can I just say ‘OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!’

It had the desired effect I was expecting. Excitement, confusion, anticipation, surprise.
I think I was actually holding my breath through the entire first watch.

I think it’s done it’s job very well.
It has given us a good feel for how the movie will play out but I think there are one or two red herrings in there to throw us off the scent.

On the internet, it always amuses me to what lengths people will argue about what they believe will happen. They have a viewpoint, they’ve read the trailer one way and if anyone argues otherwise, all hell breaks loose! Most of the time it’s all in good humour.

‘Most of the time’!

Anyway, after scrutinising the trailer myself over the last few days, I thought I’d give you my perspective.

Remember, these are my thoughts and viewpoints…. I could be completely wrong!!
This is the fun part.
Trying to figure it all out and then being completely dumbfounded when you realise you’d got it all wrong and they pull something completely different out of the bag.

The opening few seconds….

Yes!! My baby looking all lonely, contemplative and angsty.
I love that Kylo is now out of the robes and into a more form fitting uniform.
We actually get to ‘see’ Adam in this movie. He’s big and he’s beautiful.
What is he overseeing? Preparation for a battle?

Rey is taking to her lightsabre. She’s looking determined.
Daisy is looking really good. Her exercise regime has definately paid off.

So, Luke is afraid of Rey’s powers because they remind him of Kylo’s. I really hope this film explores what actually happened at Luke’s academy and how Kylo became known as ‘The Jedi Killer’. Why is Luke so scared?

Can I just say again….. Adam is looking incredible in this film!!
At least we get to actually see his face through most of this one.
If there’s one thing Adam can do very well it’s angst and anger.
Listen to how calm he is when delivering the line ‘Let go of the past…. kill it, if you have to’.
And yes!! He’s still having tantrums.
Ooooh chills.

This, I believe, is a red herring. We are meant to believe that Kylo kills Leia but there is just no way this is going to happen. Look at the angst on his face as his finger hovers over that button!
Besides, it would be sloppy writing on Rian’s part to have Kylo kill both parents and we know that Leia (Carrie) is going to be given a better send off than that!!
Kylo is going to be more conflicted in The Last Jedi than he was in Force Awakens.
I am going to love every minute of it!!

PORGS!!!
I still don’t know what to make of them.
My kids love them and they haven’t even seen the movie yet.
I suspect there’s a lot more to them than we have been lead to believe. I have no doubt they are going to be some of the comic relief of this movie, but I also believe they are not to be underestimated.

Poe and Finn throw themselves into the hero spots of the film and I can’t wait to see that fight between Finn and Phasma.

I think, in the context of the trailer, this little line is aimed directly at the audience!!
I think Luke is right. I don’t think anyone has a clue how this is going to play out. Regardless of all the hype and speculation, I think there are going to be plenty of twists and turns and shocks along the way.
Also… the crystaline foxes… what significance do they have? They are obviously being protected by the resistance as the planet is attacked. Are they indiginous? Are they intelligent? Have they been helping the resistance?

OK, this is a scene I’ve watched over and over.
I believe this is going to be a pivotal moment. Not for Rey, but for Kylo!!

If you look closely at the scene earlier in the trailer where Kylo is picking up his sabre, it is obviously taking place in the same room Rey is being tortured by Snoke. You see the red guards in the back of both images. When Snoke says the words ‘fullfill your destiny’, I believe they are being spoken to Kylo.
Has he just been told to kill Rey, to complete his training, to become the most powerful sith that ever lived?
Is this the moment Kylo decides on a different path?

This is the moment that is causing more discourse on the internet than any other.
Here’s my take on it and please remember that this is just a theory. I’m not insisting I’m right and I’m probably completely wrong.

I believe this is the biggest red herring in the entire trailer.
I have no doubt that Kylo and Rey will be joining forces (excuse the pun) in some form during this movie but I don’t think it is in this moment. In fact I think they are two completely different scenes that have been cleverly cut together.

I believe Rey is actually talking to Luke at the beginning of the movie when she says ‘I need someone to show me my place in all this’.

As to who Kylo is holding his hand out to?
It could still very well be Rey but I believe it could also be Leia.

There!
I’ve done it. That’s what I got out of this trailer.
Now I just have to wait another two months to find out.

I already have my tickets for a double bill starting on 13th Dec at 21:00 with The Force Awakens and this leads into a midnight showing of The Last Jedi. I will be amongst the first to see it. I can’t wait!!

So I have just wasted a couple of hours playing with this and have rattled off around a thousand words.
I now have to get back to an essay that I still need to write and reference 1500 more words for.
Bet it doesn’t get finished today!!

2016 KICKS THE BUCKET!!

So 2016 was a disaster.
A totally depressing year and I don’t know anyone who was really feeling Xmassy at all.

As a hardened Star Wars fan, to end the year with the loss of both Carrie Fisher and her Mother Debbie Reynolds within 36 hours of each other is just mind numbing.

carrie-and-debbie

We can only hope that 2017 is better.

2016 is not going down without a fight though. I decided to pack away all the Xmas decs today to rid myself of any memories of 2016 and enjoy an evening in with my the hubster, but the decs fought back. Caught my arm nicely on a wire from a garland.

scratch

In 2016 I watched 301 films and went to the cinema 48 times. Not quite as impressive as last year but that’s something I intend to work on in 2017.

In my head I see a better year.
Jobs for both myself and my husband are pretty secure at this point and finances by the end of 2017 should be taking an up swing.

I have my brother’s wedding in Italy to look forward to in August even though I will be going without the hubby and kids.

My obsessions with Adam Driver and Domhnall Gleeson continue and I’m glad to say there’s lots to look forward to.

It all kicks off tomorrow evening when I will be going to see Adam’s new film, Silence. One to watch out for at the Oscars.

He then stars in ‘Girls’ Series 6 in february. This is the last in the series and will hopefully answer the questions about Hannah and Adam and Jessa and the rest of the gang and not leave us screaming at their decisions.

Then things are a little quiet until later in the year when he stars alongside Daniel Craig in ‘Logan Lucky’ and then of course with Domhnall in the much anticipated Star Wars Episode VIII.

I have no idea what his plans are for the rest of the year. He may focus on his non profit charity ‘Arts in the Armed Forces’ or he may squeeze in some other smaller projects. I will of course, be posting anything I hear about.

Domhnall on the other hand, has 6 films listed for 2017!
American Made is set for release in September and Stars Tom Cruise.
Already mentioned is Star Wars Episode VIII in December although I’m really worried that his character, General Hux, will be going down in a ball of flames with his ship!!
The other 4 films are all listed as in post production but have no release dates. Hopefully they will be released in 2017 but some may be release in 2018.
There is an as yet untitled A.A.Milne project where he plays A.A.Milne.

303

Crash Pad is about ¬†a¬†hopeless romantic who thinks he’s found true love with an older woman, only to learn that she’s married and that his fling is merely an instrument of revenge against her neglectful husband.
An as yet untitled Darren Aronofsky project which centers on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.
And a futile and Stupid Gesture. Set in the 1970s and ’80s, about National Lampoon’s success and influence and how it created a new media empire overseen in part by the brilliant and troubled Doug Kenney.

Of course there are plenty of other films I’m looking forward to next year.

We have a new Spiderman to look forward to. He was introduced in the last Avengers movie and if that was anything to go by, then his stand alone movie is going to be good.
We have a new Bladerunner movie, a new Alien movie, a new Fast and Furious movie.
We have a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel which I’m REALLY looking forward to and another Thor movie.
Logan, Wonderwoman, Beauty and the Beast, The Mummy, Jumanji, Life, Kingsman 2, The Wall, World War Z 2. These are just a few.

I have to admit that I’m really looking forward to the new Justice League movie in November.
Ezra Miller’s movie ‘Flash’ may just become one of my favourite things. He’s adoreable!!

I can’t believe we still don’t have a title or teaser for Star Wars Episode VIII.
It now looks like Disney may be waiting for the release of their next juggernaut, Beauty and the Beast, to use it as a springboard for Star Wars advertising.
Beauty and the Beast gets released just before the big Star Wars Celebration event in Orlando in April so it makes sense that Disney will want to utilise it’s pulling power.

It’s still very frustrating though.

I am also looking forward to all the quiet films. The independent movies that whistle through the cinemas and hardly get a look in. Some of the best movies seem to just glide through with hardly a mention. Like Paterson!
What a stunning movie. It made it to a couple of local cinemas for a grand total of two weeks before disappearing to one or two cinemas in London.
It has only just been released in the US.
I can’t wait for it to hit Bluray in March.

I make no apologies for any gushing I do over the next year.
I intend to utilise my Cineworld card to it’s fullest.
I will attempt to enjoy 2017 and not let things get me down.
I fully intend to write more fan-fiction and yes… it may contain smut.
I will continue to embarrass my kids as I crash through my mid-life crisis.

It would appear that me and the hubster have the house to ourselves tonight!!
Murron is working at her favourite haunt, Esquires, and Marjorie and Dharma are utilising Nan and Grandad’s house while they are away in Brugges.
Marjorie has promised Dharma a takeout because she’s earning now.

So! Pact with the hubby. He’s turning off his tablet and PC at around 6 this evening and I’ll be turning off my PC at the same time. We are going to curl up and enjoy seeing 2016 kick the bucket.

BRING IT ON!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

ABSOLUTELY GUTTED

So last night was a little depressing after hearing the news of Carrie Fisher’s death.

This morning however has been completely gutting as I worked my way through all the Facebook posts, Twitter feeds and my Tumblr dash only to be confronted by post after post, photo after photo, of people saying their goodbyes and sharing their stories.

It struck me hard that I’ve know this women since I was 8 years old.
She was one of the first heroines that showed me that girls can fight too.
She showed us how to overcome personal problems and give a big fuck you to the nay sayers.

To me, she is royalty.

CARRIE FISHER

1956 – 2016

DISHETTE OF THE WEEK #4 – CARRIE FISHER

After posting Daisy Ridley as Dishette of the week number 3, there could only be one choice for Dishette number 4. Carrie Fisher.

Carrie 4

What an amazing woman.

Born in 1956 and the daughter of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.
She hasn’t had an easy life and has really struggled with her fame.

Eddie Fisher left Debbie when Carrie was just 3 years old and married Debbie’s best friend Elizabeth Taylor.

She has been quoted as saying ‘she would have turned down the role of Princess Leia had she realized it would give her the celebrity status that made her parents’ lives difficult’

Her Mother’s acting career interfered with Carrie’s education so much that she never graduated.
That said, Carrie has gone on to become a prolific writer of original work.
She writes screenplays, most noteably the semi autobiographical ‘Postcards from the Edge’ for which she wrote the book and the screenplay for the film of the same title in 1990 which was nominated for 2 Academy Awards.

Carrie has been very upfront about her problems with drugs and her struggle with bipolar disorder.
She has also struggled with her weight and let’s face it, who hasn’t!!

She is now what I would class as ‘a bit of an eccentric.
She now appears comfortable in her own skin, says what she thinks ‘regardless’ and takes her little dog ‘Gary’ everywhere. And I do mean everywhere!

Carrie 5
Poor Adam!! Looking a bit out of place holding Gary!!

Anyway, whether she likes it or not, she will always be know to us as Princess Leia.

A New Hope.

Carrie 1

Empire Strikes Back.

Carrie 3

Return of the Jedi.

Carrie 2

And now, 30 years later, The Force Awakens.

Carrie 7

Only now she is not a princess, she’s a General.
And as Lor San Tekka said, ‘to me, she is Royalty’
