Things are beginning to happen.
Odds and ends that have been lingering are suddenly getting done.

The two new books I ordered earlier this year as an early birthday present from Michael Stokes’ latest kickstarter, arrived safe and sound this morning.

That brings me to 8 of his coffee table books and 4 of them have my name in!!

My Naked Soldier is a wonderful piece of work. These are not actually Michael Stokes photos but are in fact a collection of photos that Michael has collected over the years that depict soldiers of WWI and WWII in various states of undress and getting up to all kinds of fun and letting off steam.

Sinner or Saint is definitely Michael’s own work and he has outdone himself with some truly amazing and very naughty photos.

We had a phone call early this morning to tell us that our new sofa suite has finally arrived and that they had a delivery slot available tomorrow morning and do we want it?

Unfortunately I’m at work tomorrow, so I will have to wait until I get home to see it and dress it how I want it, but thankfully I won’t be around for the upheaval of getting the old suite out and the new one in!!

This is a HUGE relief. We had been getting worried we would never see it and the thought of the company we had brought it from might go bust during the pandemic was beginning to worm it’s way into our heads.
Thankfully, that is now one less thing to worry about.

Thursday and Friday are garage clearout days.
Everything out on Thursday with a dump run of general rubbish at the end of the day and a bulk collection from the driveway on Friday.
The only thing left to do in the house now is have a good clear out and organise the kitchen. I can’t remember the last time we were this organised.

Most of my Xmas shopping is done. I have just a couple of presents I want to get but I need to be able to actually go into a shop for a couple of them so it will have to wait until after the current lockdown.

The Xmas decs are starting to go up.
I have a tree in my living room.
Just a tree, no decs yet!!
That will all change at the end of the week when I have managed to get the decs out of the garage.
It’s very early this year but who cares!! It’s been a shit year and if we can cheer ourselves up by having Xmas cheer for a few weeks longer than normal then I think we owe it to ourselves to do it!!

I haven’t felt like blogging much lately.
Life in general at the moment has kind of just stagnated.
Unable to mingle and see people the way we want is not possible and going to the cinema has now completely stopped.
We’ve only seen one film at the cinema since the first lockdown in March.
No new movies in the cinema also means no new Bluray releases, so we now rely on what Virgin, Prime, Netflix and Disney have to offer, and although there have been a couple of movies released to streaming, it’s just not the same as going to see a blockbuster on the big screen.

At the beginning of the last lockdown, and to give me something else to think about, I started to attempt to grow some avocado seeds. I had one that flourished and a couple of weeks ago I potted it up.
I think it likes it’s new home because is doing really well.

Back in September I blogged about a cactus I was trying to save.
I had to take drastic action and chop off the roots and then leave it until the end calloused over which I thought would take a few months. It actually calloused over a lot quicker than expected and I recently took the next step to try and get it to root again.

It’s now being propped up in it’s new pot by a 2 litre coke bottle.
It’s been there for a few weeks now and today I will give it it’s first small watering.
I expect it to stay like this for at least a year to give it chance to develop some good firm roots. It’s all a waiting game but the cactus itself is still looking really healthy.

In the meantime, I got some new cacti. I have a tendency to kill leafy flowery plants and I do better with cacti and I really like them so I couldn’t resist these when I saw them a few weeks ago.
I’ve given them all new matching pots and dressed them with gravel and they look really effective on my window sill.

I also thought I’d have a crack at some lemon seeds and it would appear that I’m on a roll!! They have all sprouted!

With the second lockdown now fully in swing, we won’t be seeing Murron again until December. She now lives half an hour away and she’s classed as a different household and is in a different bubble because of her partners need to share care of his kids with his ex.
It’s a little strange not having her around.
I can’t deny that some of the tension in the house has disappeared and the house is definitely a lot tidier but I do actually miss her.

My house has had a move around and a good tidy.
Murron’s old room is now Ian’s office and man cave. He continues to work from home and this now looks set to become a permanent thing.
I have my bedroom back!!!
I’ve gutted and re-organised the wardrobes and moved the furniture around.
I can actually breath again and I’m not faced with all of Ian’s computer screens, desk, chair and gaming rubbish.

We have slowly made our way around the whole house and had a good clear out of accumulated rubbish. It’s astounding what can get thrown to the back of a cupboard and forgotten about. The only thing left to do inside the house now is get our new sofas.
We bought them at the end of July and with Covid restrictions in the area in South Wales where it is being made and then here in England, the 8-10 week original delivery time is now indefinite. It’s now becoming a bit of a worry. With the amount of businesses collapsing during this pandemic, we stand to lose a lot of money if this company folds. I try not to think about it but it’s not easy.

The only thing left to sort out now is the garage.
Murron left behind her old den sofas and there’s a few old electricals like washing machine and tumble drier that have got to be cleared out.
It is currently rammed full of rubbish.
We’ve organised a bulk waste collection for the big items a little later this month. The rest is all being bagged up and we will have to make an appointment to get it to the local dump.
Once it’s all gone, we can organise the space a bit more.
Ian plans to use it as a gaming space when the weather is better.
I just want to organise it so I can get to things like tools and Xmas decs.

So, as you can see, nothing really exciting is happening.
We are all plodding along and carrying on as best we can.
Xmas is just around the corner and I’ve even just about got all that sorted already.
Life is just a little monotonous at the moment, but when you step out of the house at 7 in the morning to go to work and see this, life is actually not too bad!

Oh Yeah! How could I forget.
Probably the best thing to happen this year.

Of course, he’s not going without a fight and my year would be made complete by seeing him being dragged out of the Whitehouse by force!

Yesterday was a lovely day but didn’t end quite as planned.

Ian dropped Dharma at work and she was on a 09:30 to 19:00 shift.
I spent the morning doing some cleaning and the we dropped Marjorie at work for a 14:00 to 23:00 shift before heading over to Murron’s place for dinner.

I never thought I’d be saying that. Murron’s place.
The change in her over the last few months has been astonishing.
She has slipped into her new life like a perfectly fitting glove.
She has even taken on a parenting role as Jordan, her partner, has two small boys of 2 and 4 year that he shares responsibility for with his ex.

Seeing her with these kids was another level of unexpected.
She’s so good with them!
They even listen to her when she disciplines them which is something I could NEVER get Murron to do in 23 years!!

She cooked us a lovely roast dinner which was cooked to perfection and I even asked her how she did her roast potatoes because they were heaven!

Anyway, we left Murron’s at around 19:00 because I needed to get home because I was ‘supposed’ to be working today.

Yep, there’s that word. Supposed.
Before you think it, I didn’t come down with food poisoning after Murron’s dinner!

When we got home, Dharma informed us that she had been brewing a bit of a sore throat and a niggly tickly cough all day. She had done a symptom checker and it informed her that she, and anyone she lives with, should self isolate and she should get a COVID test.

She booked a drive through test for this morning, which I will be taking her to in about half an hour.
We then made a phone call to Marjorie at work and got her sent home.
I made a phone call to work to inform them of the situation which means I won’t be back until Dharma’s test result is back. Hopefully is won’t take long.
It won’t affect Ian as he works from home now anyway.

The worrying thing for us now is the fact that Dharma has had close contact with Nan and Grandad over the last 48 hours and Grandad even picked her up from work yesterday.
So we’ve told them to stay at home until Dharma’s results are back.
Hopefully it will come back negative and she is simply brewing a bit of a cold.

So, not quite the end to the day we expected.

We all know that 2020 has been an absolute shit show of a year.

With all that’s happened, I actually consider my circumstances to be pretty good.
As a nurse I have seen, first hand, the effect this pandemic has had but thankfully, I am a Paediatric nurse, and apart from being seasonally busy and having to make some changes to work practice, Paediatrics has not really been effected and I have managed to keep my sanity and my job over the last few months.

My husband has settled into working from home and it has actually benefitted him health wise. With the lack of travelling making his days a lot less strenuous, he is not taking as much medication as he was prior to the pandemic and he is actually producing more work. His company have seen the benefits and working from home may become a permanent thing.

My two youngest kids have got through furlough with their jobs still in tact and have both just started back at University.

My eldest has actually made a life changing move. She managed to find the love of her life during lockdown and has now moved out.
I’ve never seen her so happy!

So why the blog?

Anyone who knows me, knows I love my movies.
They are my way of relaxing and getting my head out of the real world for a while.
So, as you can imaging, the last 6 months have been tough with the lack of new movies making it to the big screen.

There were plans for a few big movies before Xmas but after the new James Bond Movie got put back for a second time earlier this week, Cineworld announced a temporary closure of all it’s branches for the forseable future.
They simply cannot afford to run them when furlough ends and there are no new movies pulling in the customers.

OK, I can live with a temporary closure, however, I doubt they will reopen every single outlet.
This would be the time that they weed out the older screens requiring upgrades and refurbs and unfortunately I think my local Cineworld falls into that category.

Only time will tell on that one.

Jamed Bond was one big movie that we were looking forward to before Xmas but there was another movie that I was looking forward to more.

It looks like Dune may have had its release date pushed back from Dec 18th this year to October 1st next year!!
I could cry, I really could! The only new film I’ve seen in the cinema since March is Tenet.

I was really looking forward to this film and I’ve already waited long enough for it.
The thought of waiting a whole year is devastating.

I’ve just checked the IMDB site and it is now confirmed.
I’ve just re-set the milestone clock to the left of my blog and it has gone from a 74 day count down back to a 12 month wait!!

Yesterday I spent the entire day sorting through number one daughter’s bedroom.
It is now completely boxed and the room is cleared.
Today we are hiring a van and moving daughter number one out!

How do I feel?

Murron is 23 years old.
She is happier than I have seen her in a long time.
Moving out finally gets her standing on her own two feet.
She has lots of plans for the future.

It’s all happened very quickly.
She’s really clicked with her boyfriend and they are really good together.
I’m apprehensive but I’m also really happy for her.

We’re picking the large van up at 10 this morning and it will be me who has to drive it!!
I haven’t driven a van that size in over 20 years!!

Wish me luck!!
It’s gonna be a long day.

Today I performed lifesaving surgery on a cactus!! (Hopefully)

Many moons ago, when my girls were just little, we bought a cute little potted cactus.

It flourished, and grew….

and grew…..

and grew!!!

The little picture gives you an idea of it’s original size and as you can see, he’s done really well.

Unfortunately, I’m not an expert in cactus care and it looks like I made one of the number one mistakes when I recently re-potted into the pot you can see in this picture.

After a few weeks of being in it’s new home, I discovered it like this.

I thought it was just trying to re-adjust and persevered by propping it up straight which in hindsight was probably the biggest mistake I made.

It turns out, the pot was WAY too big and it was also being watered too regularly.
This has caused root rot, even though the plant itself looks lovely and healthy!!

Today, I watched a few Youtube videos on saving a cactus with root rot and they all said the same thing.
Cut it away and start again.

So, I got my sharpest knife, cut away the roots and the rotted areas and now my cactus looks like this.

You can see how long I waited to do this, because the tip of the cactus has started to bend up towards the sun!

Anyway, I am to put this on a warm sunny window and leave it until the end has calloused over, which could take a few months!
It needs to be turned occasionally to keep it nice and straight, so I may be able to fix the bend while I wait for this to happen.

Only time will tell now.
It will hopefully be ready for potting in the spring.
So, I’ve either finished it off completely today, or I’ve given it a new lease of life.

Watch this space!!

Before I do anything else today, I had to write a quick blog about the news I have woken up to.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg, a US Supreme Court Judge died peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family, after another battle with cancer.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, feminist pioneer and progressive icon, dies at 87 - SCOTUSblog

The world has lost an incredible woman.
She fought tirelessly for the rights of women and ultimately for all people.
She never gave up!

If you want to watch a good film today and find out how this incredible woman started her amazing career, then watch ‘On the Basis of Sex’

It’s a sad day for equality laws.
Supreme Court Justices are appointed by the President.
The worry now is that Trump will replace Ruth with a Conservative-leaning Justice which will cement the Court’s tilt to the right!!
This could have a disastrous effect on equality laws for years to come!
Some laws could even be back tracked.

As if America didn’t have enough to worry about right now!!

So today has been a good day.
It started off with a well earned little lay in before a planned weekly meet up with an old friend to watch the first three episodes of the new season of The Boys.

These episodes were officially released onto Prime on 4th Sept, but I resisted the urge to watch them until today.

I was not disappointed.
The set up story line for season 2 is looking really good and it is still packed with bad language, guts and gore, a corrupt business, superheroes who are not actually superheroes, superheroes who ARE superheroes, superheroes who were bad but could be turning to the light, and normal every day humans who just want to get to the bottom of it all….. and Karl Urban as Billy Butcher!!

After that, a few little chores were done as I eagerly awaited the long anticipated trailer for the new ‘Dune’ movie.

Again, I was not disappointed. This looks amazing!!

However, what I didn’t expect today was the presentation Q+A as a build up to the trailer reveal.
All the major characters/actors, lots of behind the scenes footage and just mouthwatering moments to keep us entertained until the film arrives in December.

So now I can go to bed happy.
I even get another lay in tomorrow as my Paediatric Life Support recertification course doesn’t start until 10am!

Happy days.

OMG! How could I have forgotten!

My last blog consisted of a run down of Adam projects that have been delayed and/or announced and I said that we have at least 2 films planned for release next year.
I am also going to have to wait until October next year for the first of those releases.

However, it has just dawned on me that I forgot a project that is currently in post production.
A film that should have been released at Cannes this year but has been postponed to Cannes next year.

Annette, a musical!!
I have blogged about it before, saying that it is a musical that is sung from start to finish. I have been waiting with baited breath to see this film. Like I’ve said before, as much as I like a good musical, I like a musical that is scripted and interspersed with songs. I don’t generally like musicals that are completely sung as a narrative. Adam is not a professional singer but he can hold a tune. It’s going to be really interesting and raw. I’m either going to love it or hate it, and I am so hoping that I love it!!

At least I only have to wait until May for this one!!

I am so annoyed with myself. I’m on a couple of days off and I thought I’d take chance on getting a Tesco delivery.
I was lucky enough to find one for a 9 – 10am slot this morning.
As I needed to do quite a big top up shop, I booked the slot.

I proceeded to add all the cleaning and hygiene products we needed for the month from Toothpaste, soap and deoderant to bleach and washing tablets and everything in between. I then checked out to confirm the booking and went to check out the cupboards and freezers.
I went back into my order and added everything else that was needed and sat back in the knowledge that I had saved myself from having to do a large shop today.

However, Dharma popped her head into the living room late last night and asked if I’d checked out to confirm the rest of the shopping and to my horror I realised that I had missed checking out after adding the rest of the shopping and I was just 5 minutes too late to do anything about it!!

At least a lot of heavy cleaning and hygiene products were delivered this morning.
Just a bit pissed off that I still have to go and do quite a large shop at some point today.

And finally!! Some Adam news. Albeit just a few snippets.

Ridley Scott did a zoom interview this week and confirmed the re-start of shooting for ‘The Last Duel’. He stated….

“We start in about 2 weeks. I’m in Ireland right now where we’re going to be shooting, probably about 5 more weeks shooting and my cast are here and we’re about to begin. We’re going to be very, very careful and very, very meticulous about the process”

So Adam is in Ireland, but the delay in filming has meant that instead of seeing the film this Xmas as originally planned, I will now have to wait for October 15th next year. On the bright side, that’s just in time for my birthday!

And there has been MORE Adam news.

Ridley Scott must like Adam Driver because it has been confirmed by ‘Gucci’ that Adam has just signed up to star alongside Lady Gaga in ‘Gucci’ being directed by Ridley Scott, although what part Adam will be playing is yet to be confirmed.
The film is a true crime drama about the Gucci family murder and is slated for a release date of November 24th next year.

Yesterday we received news that Adam is to star in a Horror Thriller!!
It’s an original script called ’65’ from Producer Sam Raimi.
Adam will apparently play an opioid addict who has become a hopeless shadow of his former self. He’s involved in some kind of catastrophic accident & the only other person to emerge from the crash is a 9 y/o girl who speaks a different language. The 2 of them must work together to survive”.

So, at least 2 films next year and already planning one for the following year.
I just need to see some up to date pictures of him now or even a small interview.
How’s he been during lockdown?
Knowing Adam, he probably thrived because he is such a private person.
He has probably relished the time he’s been able to spend with Joanne and his kid who is probably around the 2 year old mark by now. We don’t know.
We didn’t even know he and Joanne had had the kid, he’s that private.

So, time to put my feet up for a bit.
A friend is coming round for our weekly movie and a chat day in a little while and we have decided to watch ‘Black Panther’ in honour of Chadwick Bozeman.
Gone WAY too soon but what a legacy he’s leaving.
