WELL….SHIT!!!

Just as I was thinking things couldn’t get much worse.

My PC, my lifeline to sanity, the holder of knowledge and my entire first year of University work, has just decided to die on me.

Hopefully it just means a new base unit and my work is safe on individual drives…. or so the hubby says.

Me?…. I’m freaking out. In tears. Don’t know where the money is coming from for a new PC and I desperately need it right now to complete my Uni course.

What do I do?

EXHASPERATED

Why is it, that in this country, you are considered to be an adult at 18 years old.

You can drive.

You can get married.

You can drink.

You can get credit cards and loans.

You can live independently of your parents. I can even give my child 28 days notice of eviction (Don’t tell my kids!!!)

But when it comes to medical treatment, even though they won’t talk to me as a parent without my child’s consent, they are still classed as children until they are 19!!!

So annoyed with a wasted day today. We needed to make an appointment for Marjorie to see a Gastro specialist to confirm whether or not she has Coeliac disease.

The online booking system gave us 3 options with the shortest wait being at a local private hospital, so we booked it, only to receive a letter saying they don’t take ‘children’ under 19!!!

A couple of days later we received an appointment anyway and attended it today. We were told the appointment didn’t exist and that this letter should have been received before the letter we received telling us they don’t do kids under 19.

So now poor Marjorie has another 2 month wait!!

Poor Marjorie is devastated, she just wants confirmation and she took an afternoon out of college to attend it.

Thankfully I’m on a day off or I would have been well and truly hacked off too!!

GOOD DAY

We had a lovely relaxing Xmas Day yesterday.

Mum and Dad came over for a lush dinner and we chilled and watched Russell Howard and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

There was no pressure to do anything and we just had fun.

We got some new family members.

Shortly after Mum and Dad left, we dropped like flies. I ended up leaving Murron and Marjorie sleeping on the sofas.

It was a restless night however as the irritating little tickly cough I’ve had for the last week decided to become a little more. I had to fling the bedroom window open in the early hours to try and cool down, much to Ian’s annoyance and today I feel decidedly fluey. Glands are swollen, my back hurts, my limbs ache and my eyes have streamed all day. My throat is threateningly on the verge of becoming painful and I feel quite miserable.

So, lots of pain relief and an early night I think as I am working the next 2 days!! Not actually looking forward to that prospect at the moment.

Anyway, I hope you all had a wonderful Xmas.

LAND OF THE LIVING

So, after nearly a week with no Internet service, I’m finally back in the land of the living.

The first villa in La Cetina was so remote the service was really spotty. I certainly couldn’t use Tumblr and YouTube. Sending the occasional FB status if I was lucky.

Here at Villa Catignano I suddenly have every thing back again and as we can’t check in for another three hours I have decided to do a quick blog.

I have checked off all my boxes for what I wanted to get out of this holiday. I have seen Siena, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano and Florence!

Now it’s time to chill and enjoy my Brother’s wedding here at Villa Catignano over the weekend.

We will be finishing off the holiday with our final day on Monday in Siena with my Brother and his new bride.

So that’s it. I am still alive. I have been keeping a diary that I plan to add photos to and blog when I get home so stay tuned.

MASTER TRICKSTER STRIKES AGAIN

Let’s start with the date…. 1st April
I guess that really should have been the clue.

The master trickster himself, Mark Hamill decided it would be a great laugh to watch thousands of Star Wars fans squirm waiting for the promise of a small spoiler for Star Wars Episode VIII with the OK coming from Rian Johnson, the Director himself.

He Tweeted….

He continued his teasing for the best part of the day with subsequent posts.

The tweets kept coming and they kept on promising.
Mark’s following on Twitter increased….. unsurprisingly by quite a few thousand.
But as the Tweets continued, each one related to his characters of The Joker and The Trickster, it became clearer and clearer.

We’d all been completely had!

Damn you Mark Hamill!!
Well Played.

We really should have known better.
There’s absolutely no way that anything is going to be leaked this early on, but it was fun while it lasted.

GIVE ME A BREAK!

OK, I am now on day 6 of a forced rest and relaxation couple of weeks.
I’m going a little stir crazy!
I took a little hobble around Tesco yesterday with crutches and ended up regretting it.
My knee gave out on me again!!
Just when I think things are getting better, some unseen little sadist rams a knife into the back of my knee and then twists it for extra effect!!
So the afternoon was spent watching movies with my feet up.

Last night Dharma managed to injure her knee when she misjudged the distance she had to her bed when getting onto it.
Didn’t think much to it until this morning after Ian had gone to work.
She’s got some swelling, a nice bruise starting and she can’t walk!!
I can’t get her to the hospital because of my current injury, so she’s resting and icing it for the day and if necessary, she’ll have to go to the hospital with Ian when he gets in from work.

Great!!
The school are going to be down my neck again soon because of all the time off she’s had recently.
I can’t win!!

DISAPPOINTINGLY PAINFUL

Hobbling around the house has been ok over the last few days. So much so that I decided to take a short walk.
It was only over the road to get some milk but thankfully I took a crutch with me.

I soon discovered that normal walking is very uncomfortable and the minute I hit an uneven surface, that red hot poker reared it’s ugly head and I was thankful I had remembered the crutch!

So, it looks like I need to take the Docs orders and simply rest.

FEELING USELESS

So I had my follow up in the Trauma clinic yesterday.
I was basically told to rest and elevate the knee as much as possible.
I was told that recovery time was difficult to predict.
I have been signed off work for 2 weeks and told to see my GP if I need more.
I’ve been given another follow up in exactly four weeks that I can cancel if I don’t need it.
However, if my knee is still giving me issues in 4 weeks then more investigations may be needed.

So it’s really just a waiting game now.
I am able to hobble about slowly without any pain which is a good start.
However, the minute I try to walk at any speed or on an uneven surface or turn at an odd angle, I literally feel like I’m being stabbed in the back of my knee and it catches me from time to time and I feel like it may collapse. So for now, when I venture out of the house, I will be continuing with at least 1 crutch for stability.

So, day 1 of rest.
Making a start on my movie marathon with some old school movies.
The Towering Inferno. Paul Newman and Steve McQueen!! Yum!

towering inferno

I’m expecting a DVD in the post. Regarding Henry. I wanted to buy it at the weekend but it’s been discontinued so I had to buy it from Ebay.

reagarding henry

It’s a lovely film starring Harrison Ford. I haven’t seen it in years and something reminded me about it the other day and I had the urge to watch it.
I couldn’t find it on any on demand service and Prime wanted to charge me £8 for it! So I thought ‘stuff that’ I’d rather buy a hard copy of it.

I need to have a think for anything beyond that.
But with almost 1300 films to choose from, I’m a bit spoilt for choice.

YESTERDAY DIDN’T QUITE GO AS EXPECTED

Yesterday was a normal day at work.
Nothing unusual happened.
My knee wasn’t any more painful than normal.
I took my pain meds regularly to try an stay comfortable and moving.
But……

At the end of my shift, I was walking across the car park and something literally went POP in my knee!!
OMG….the pain.
I couldn’t put my foot to the floor.
I was literally stuck in the middle of the car park thinking…. what do I do now?

I alerted work to the possibility I wouldn’t be in today.
I called the hubby as he was gaming in Northampton, so he could start on his way home.
I then took very slow agonising steps across the car park and finally made it to the car.

The relief when I sat down was incredible.
I then did something I don’t think I should have done and I drove home!!

When I got home, the kids helped me gather up a night bag…. just in case it was needed.
When Ian got home he took me back to the hospital.
After a bit of a wait I was seen by a Doctor who suspects I have something called a Baker Cyst and that it burst as I was walking across the car park.

Lovely!!

I have a follow up in trauma clinic this morning to get more information.
I have no idea what the next step will be or what the recovery is like.
I am at least hoping that when it’s cleared up, some of the pain I have been experiencing over the last couple of months may ease off a bit!!
We’ll just have to wait and see.

On the plus side, I now have the perfect excuse to literally put my feet up and binge watch movies!!

FUN WHILE IT LASTED

It’s been a lovely weekend.
Me and Ian decided to have some alone time without the kids.
Ian collects points with something whenever he goes away on business and had accumulated enough points to practically pay for a good hotel room for Saturday evening and he needed to use the points before they ran out.

As I still had my Xmas money from Mum and Dad and we also had a Wagamamas gift card from Ian’s Dad and Step Mum, we decided to just book a room in Central Milton Keynes for the night.
I know it’s not very exotic but it meant that we could go shopping, watch as many movies as we wanted, meet up with friends for dinner and drinks and not have to worry about driving home.

Anyway, I usually end up being very responsible when I get money like this but I was feeling in the mood to be silly.
I was going to get what I ‘wanted’ this time around and not what I ‘needed’

I started with a few Blurays.
This is Where I Leave You.
What If.
Inside Llewyn Davis.
Tracks.
And While We’re Young.

My Tumblr buddies will probably notice the link in all of these movies.
OK, Inside Llewyn Davis is more Oscar Isaace than Adam Driver but hey! It’s Oscar Isaac!!
It’s also a good movie.

Anyway, we kind of made the mistake of going into Build a Bear.
One Kylo Ren Bear later……

Kylo Ren Bear

The lady in the shop made me stand on the stuffing peddle and when he was stuffed she made me give him a hug to make sure he was OK and then she literally made me pick a small silky heart, give it a kiss and stuff it inside him before she sealed him up!!

He was worth it!
His little lightsaber lights up and makes noises and when you squeeze his left hand he plays the Imperial March!

Anyway, feeling inspired after Build a Bear, we headed over to the Disney Store.
BIG MISTAKE.
We came away with a pair of lightsabers.
Ian is now the proud owner of Luke/Anakin’s blue sabre and I am the proud owner of Kylo’s red cross guard sabre.
Could make for some interesting evenings!

So, after all the shopping we headed over to the cinema for the first film of the weekend.
The Revenant.
Ian hated it, I liked it.
Stunning cinematography, amazing performances all round.
Do I think Leo will get the Oscar?
His performance was good, I just get the feeling Eddie Redmayne may be pipping him at the post for Danish Girl.
Although I haven’t seen that one yet so I can’t really comment. I just get the feeling it more along the lines of an Academy type of film.

In the foyer I had my photo taken with Poe!

Me and Poe

Not quite the Po I had in mind…….
But I can dream.

Poe dameron 2

After that we met up with some old friends at Frankie and Benny’s for Dinner.
We don’t meet up with them anywhere near enough these days so it was nice to just chat and have a bit of a catch up.

Then we headed off for our second film of the day.
Goosebumps.
Ian loved it, I hated it.
What a pile of shit!!
I felt like I was sat at home on my computer while the kids are watching one of their inane American kids shows.
I think I actually dozed off for about 30 minutes of it.

Anyway, after that we went to Bar Revolution for a drink before heading off to the hotel.
Ian’s back wasn’t going to be able to take another movie so we picked up some drink and nibbles on the way back and settle in for the night.
I got to watch Magic Mike on TV at least.

The next morning we had a relaxing start with a lovely breakfast at the hotel and then we checked out and headed over to the cinema for our third movie of the weekend.
Deadpool.
We both loved this one.
Definately our kind of movie.
Think I may just have to go and see it again!!

After that we finally got our Wagamamas.
Then we called it a day and headed home.

Today has been a bit of a catch up on the cleaning day.
I had to go and get a new Hoover.
I didn’t realise how bad our old one was until I hoovered the hallway and in just 2 minutes I had filled the chamber with dust and crap!

Anyway, time to crash for the evening with some of my new blurays and get ready for work and reality tomorrow.
