Mum of three.
X graphic designer turned mum. When the need to go back out to work arrived, I became a Clinical Support Worker completely by accident. I was a support worker for 9 years and was actually awarded Clinical Support Worker of the Year 2011 at my trust.
I have just completed a 2 year University course as a Trainee Nursing Associate and now I am one of the countries first registered Nurse Associates. I am also a Paediatric based Nurse Associate which makes me quite rare. I have been married for 25 years.

ANOTHER YEAR OVER…..

So here we are again.
Yet another year over and they seem to be getting quicker and quicker!!

I’ve just finished my second Long day in a row and now I’m ready for a long glass of Brandy and Babycham and some dinner before snuggling down on the sofa to see in the New Year.

2015 has been a mixed year.
As a family, we said goodbye to the Matriarch. Grissle.
She made it to 95 years. An incredible lady who always managed to put a smile on my face and still does!

Nan 40

And we said goodbye to a long standing friend who is, and always will be considered family. Valerie.

Val

It’s been a landmark year with Dharma turning 13, Marjorie turning 16, Murron turning 18 and Ian turning 50!
On top of all that, we also celebrated 21 years of marriage.
Oh yes, I got my first tattoos!
Mid life crisis I think!

Work has been challenging on both sides to say the least.
I finished my 2 year college course in September. An achievement I never thought I’d be doing at 46 and Ian is coming to the end of 35 years of shift work as he takes on a new position at the beginning of January.
Mondays to Fridays 9 to 5.
That, on it’s own, is going to bring us our biggest challenge next year as he is also taking a temporary cut wages as he trains up for and proves himself in the new position.
Hopefully by the end of next year we’ll be back on track again but it’s going to be really tough keeping our heads above water after we’ve been getting used to being financially comfortable for the first time in 15 years!!

It’s been a great year for films and it has ended on an exceptionally high note with the ‘thankfully’ incredible new Star Wars movie.
I have watched 378 films and I have been to the cinema a grand total of 64 times.
I am not ashamed to admit that the last 4 times were all for Star Wars.
At last I can put aside the meagre attempt at rebooting the franchise with the prequels and get back to what Star Wars should be!
Oh yes and there’s definately a new bad boy on the block.

This year saw not just one new obsession in the form of Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake smile

but at the last minute Adam Driver stomped in as Kylo Ren with his lightsabre, sulking and extremely bad temper.

Yes, this obsession has bloomed rather quickly.

Mr Spock himself in the Classic Star Trek universe

Leonard Nimoy

Next year sees the third movie in the reboot Trek universe and Zachary Quinto has done a stellar job at taking on the role of Spock.
Can’t wait to see it.

I’ll end this blog with a full list of my movie viewing for the year in order.
As you will see, I’m quite eclectic with my viewing.

So for now, I hope everyone has an amazing New Year.
I will endeavour to keep blogging pationately about my obsessions, my movies and my occasional rants at the world.
See you in 2016!!

THE CONFLICT

This is never a good sign.
Blogging about wanting to do something I really shouldn’t to justify doing it in the end anyway!!

Next year is going to be a little tough financially as Ian takes on a new job role at a slighly lower level and has to work his way back up to where he is now.
We know that our Cineworld cards are going to come in very handy for any time out together.
Our kids are going to have a bit of a shock as the bank of Mum and Dad closes for a year.

Anyway, we had a last minute splurge on a couple of items as a treat for the end of the year.
Ian is eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new T-shirt he can wear to his X-wing gaming days.

Ebay 1

We also found a gorgeous artwork print of a stormtrooper that will probably end up hanging over my piano that is currently displaying some of Ian’s beautifully detailed gaming models.

Ebay 2

The company selling the artwork print had a buy 2 get one free offer so it was a bit rude not to make use of it and we decided on a new Star Wars print and the teaser print for the new Batman vs Superman movie that I saw hanging in the Northampton Cineworld the other day and loved!.

Ebay 3

That was it. Or so I thought.
My STUPID husband went and left an Ebay page open to show me when I got in from work.
You’d think he knew me better than to do that!

Ebay 4

It’s for a set of posters from the US.
All of them Kylo Ren!!
The door poster would sit beautifully right next to me here on the computer.

But we’re not just looking at the cost of the posters.
The two centre posters are Maxi posters that could replace some of our current prints. So not an issue.
I would however, need to get a frame for the door poster and the poster on the end is a smaller 16 x 20 inches so a frame would be required for that too.

I am now in torment.
I stewed over it last night and have been thinking about it all morning.

Time to flip a coin.

DISH OF THE WEEK # 64 – ADAM DRIVER

BE WARNED….. there are Star Wars spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the film, turn back now!!

OK, this all started a week ago today!

Exactly one week ago today I went to see the new Star Wars movie for the first time.
I was apprehenshive.
I loved the original 3 movies.
I wasn’t overly inspired by the disappointing prequels and their over inflated egos and CGI.
So I went into this one with trepidation.

I needn’t have worried.
I should have known JJ Abrams would have pulled it off!
He is a master at his job.

Anyway, this is where the niggling started.
Kylo Ren was intriguing.

Kylo Ren 4

Tall and brooding and then…… the mask came off!!

Kylo Ren 5

OK, mmm, not what I was expecting, something a little odd but actually quite attractive.
Beautiful thick black glossy hair…… there’s a reason for that and I’ll mention it later.
Deep voice.
He can sulk and boy does he have a temper!
That temper leads to quite possibly, the funniest moment in the new movie.

Kylo temper storm troopers

But most of all, this guy can act!! Sorry to Hayden Christensen but Adam could act you off the screen! With or without a mask!
The scene where he confronts Han, and if you’ve seen the film you’ll know the scene I’m talking about, the acting was astounding.
The torment, the agony, it was all in his eyes every step of the way. He sucker punched me totally.
Even after the events of that scene, I couldn’t stop thinking about him.

So naturally I went to see it again.
Wham!

Kylo Ren 1

Yep, here we go again.

Just to make sure, I went to see it for a third time.
There’s just no getting away from it.
The bad boy has weasled his way in and I can’t wait to get a good back story on him.
Why did he turn to the dark side?
Why did he despise Han so much?
Why did he NEVER even mention his mother?
Will there be any saving him and if so, how is he ever going to forgive himself?

We have to wait 2 years for the next installment….. really?
OK I know we’re getting Rogue One next year with Mads Mikkelsen but right now I want Episode VIII

Anyway, back to the reason for this post.
Of course, the natural thing to do when an actor makes an impact is to check out what else he’s done.
Thankfully, when it comes to starring roles, he’s still pretty fresh on the market.
Unlike previous Dishes who have a back catalogue that’s hard to find and some of it in different languages, I came across 3 of Adam’s films quite easily.
Tracks, a supporting role.
Adam Driver 3

While we’re young, semi starring role.

While we're young

This is where I leave you, a starring role

Adam Driver 4

He’s been in a TV series, Girls, for the last 5 years that I hope to get a look at later today and he has 3 films on the cards for 2016.
Silence, Midnight Special and Paterson.

Star Wars Episode VIII is filming and set for release in 2017.

Anyway, that’s the actor.
Now, about the man.

He’s 32 and 6’2.5″
After 9/11 he enlisted as a Marine.
When you see this next picture, you’ll see the reason for the lovely long hair!

Adam Driver 5

Oh dear!
Bless him. He must have been about 19 or 20 in this photo.
The marine hair cut doesn’t do him any favours!

Anyway, after serving in Afghanistan for 2 years, he had to be medically discharged after shattering his sternum in a mountain biking accident.

After a year of hard work at the University of Indianapolis, he got accepted into Juilliard.
In 2012, he landed his role in Girls and the rest is history.

Adam Driver 2

Adam Driver 8

He has been blessed with a nose to match his ears, but somehow, in an awquard kind of way, they work.

Adam Driver 7

Adam Driver 6

Adam Driver 9

Expect to see Adam crop up a little more on my blog site!!
I’m expecting big things over the next few years.

HERE WE GO…..

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

As I sit here having a quiet morning cuppa, the turkey has just started cooking, the table is laid, the veggies are prepared, the presents are all sat waiting for the kids to open them up.
The only problem is…. we are making them wait until Nanny and Grandad get round before they open anything!!!
It hasn’t gone down too well with Dharma who woke up an hour ago and is now so excited she’s fit to burst!!
Marjorie and Murron on the other hand, are typical teenagers who just want a bit longer in bed and welcomed the news when I told them last night.

I’ve seen posts of friends and families on FB who have already started opening presents and I can imagine the carnage in a lot of households already this morning.
I remember it well from when my tribe were younger.
I even remember my Dad coming over at the crack of dawn just to see them opening presents.

Those days are fond memories and I now have to deal with a bad tempered 13 year old who thinks it’s highly unfair that we are making her wait.
She only has to wait until 10:30 I might add!!!
Is it really too much to ask?

This time has also given me a chance to think about 2 people who won’t be here this year.

My Nan who I will always miss and cherish.

001 Marjorie Jones

And Auntie Val, who technically wasn’t an Auntie but was there from the day I was born and will always be ‘Auntie’ to me.

010 Val + Phil

To both families I send all my love and hope you still have a wonderful Xmas.
Grissle and Val wouldn’t want it any other way!!

OH DEAR!!

Oh dear…. here we go again.
There are rumblings.
I can feel the start of a mini obsession that over the next few years has the potential to become a major obsession.

Adam Driver.

Adam Driver 1 Adam Driver 2

It started on Saturday when we went to see Star Wars the Force Awakens for the first time.
Kylo Ren kind of made an impression on me, even though every fan on the planet now wants to rip his throat out!

Kylo Ren 1

Seeing it for the second time, and that scene, you know the one, the ‘I am conflicted’ scene.
Just for a second my heart breaks for him….. but only for a second.

Seeing it for the third time today I have convinced myself that there is still good in him!!
My husband is disagreeing with me on this one so now ‘I am conflicted’ also!!
Only time will tell.

Anyway, on Sunday I stumbled across a film called Tracks starring Mia Wasikowska.
It’s the true story of a young woman who goes on a 1,700-mile trek across the deserts of West Australia with four camels and her faithful dog.
Adam played Rick, a photographer for a magazine who convinces her to sell her story to help fund her trip.
He meets with her every few weeks to take photos to chronicle the trip.

Adam Driver 3

Tonight I have found another movie.
Back in 2014, there was a film I never got around to seeing, even though the trailer looked hilarious!
It didn’t occur to me until tonight that it is also one of Adam’s first starring roles alongside Jason Bateman.

I just couldn’t help myself.
Time to snuggle in bed before my last shift before Xmas.
Time to have a bit of a giggle with what is hopefully, a film that is as funny as the trailer suggests.

Adam Driver 4
