Mum of three.
X graphic designer turned mum. When the need to go back out to work arrived, I became a Clinical Support Worker completely by accident. I was a support worker for 9 years and was actually awarded Clinical Support Worker of the Year 2011 at my trust.
I have just completed a 2 year University course as a Trainee Nursing Associate and now I am one of the countries first registered Nurse Associates. I am also a Paediatric based Nurse Associate which makes me quite rare. I have been married for 25 years.

BAFTAS

Finally, an awards show I can actually watch!!

Being in the UK really sucks when it comes to awards season.
The big American awards are never shown here in the UK and if they are, it’s usually just highlights the day after.

So here is one set of awards that belong to us Brits. The BAFTAS!!
They will air on UK TV at 21:00 tomorrow evening.

As much as I have my hopes up for Adam Driver to win the Best Actor award, I feel, deep down, that this is going to Joaquin Phoenix.

Now don’t get me wrong, Joaquin’s performance was amazing, but Adam’s was hands down better, and when you consider that out of all of the awards that have been given so far this season, Adam has had just under 58 nominations and around 35 wins, and Joaquin has had just under 50 nominations and only around 15 wins, I think the industry believes that too.

My problem with the two big ones, BAFTAS and Oscars, is that they don’t just vote on the performance that an actor has been nominated for.
They quite clearly will look at the back history and previous number of nominations, and on the back of that, because he’s had more nominations in previous years, I can pretty much put money on Joaquin winning both the BAFTA and Oscar titles.

TBH, that’s a shame, because out of the two performances, and without trying to sound biased, I believe Adam’s performance is the more worthy winner.

You want to Netflix and chill tonight?, you like a good tearjerker?, then go and watch ‘Marriage Story’.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE…..

Never underestimate what a difference watching a film on the big screen can make.

Tonight I went to see a film I NEVER thought I would get to see on the big screen because of all the legal wranglings it’s had to go through in the last year.

I have managed to see it on a German released DVD that I had to scrabble around until I found the English version on the disk, and because this preview showing with a recorded Q+A with director Terry Gilliam and Actor Jonathan Pryce was showing at a cinema that is a 45 minute drive away, in the evening, and between two 12.5 hour shifts at work, I very nearly didn’t go!

I am so glad I did!

I loved the film on DVD, but it takes on a whole new life on the big screen.
It is absolutely stunning, and crazy, and if you are a Terry Gilliam fan, you are absolutely going to love this film.

IS HUX MEANT TO BE CUTE?

I recently discovered someone called ‘BearMix’ selling hand made teddy bears on Etsy.

They have loads of different characters from films, including a lot of marvel, super heroes and villains.
However, one bear just screamed at me to buy him and I couldn’t resist.
He is a little General Hux bear. There’s just so little Hux merch out there that I just had to get him.

So Cute!!!

When I ordered him I had no idea he was poseable too.
He’s so cute!!!

But wait a minute……

Is Hux meant to be cute?
Ruthless maybe,…. but cute?

Hell yes, he’s played by Domhnall Gleeson, so cute he is!

GOOD DAY

So, today has been a nice day.
I had the opportunity for a little bit of a lay in before heading to work for a training day. Usually these days can be little monotonous, but today was actually quite interesting and has given me quite a bit to think about.
I managed to get some quality time with colleagues I would rarely get a chance to talk to on a normal busy work day.

The day finished at 16:00 and I popped into Tesco on the way home.
I have made a simple spaghetti bolognese for dinner and I am now enjoying a little ‘me’ time with a glass of wine.

Something I’m keeping my eye on this week is this weekend’s Saturday Night Live show in the States.
Adam Driver is hosting it again, and he’s been absolutely hilarious in the past!

One of the best things to come out of his appearances is Matt the Radar Technician. One of his first sketches on the show was a parody of the ‘Undercover Boss’ series, with Kylo Ren going undercover as a radar technician called Matt!

This is absolutely hysterical and it was followed up with a behind the scene video which showed Adam’s giggly side.

This show isn’t aired here in the UK, so I am going to have to wait for it to filter out onto the internet, sketch by sketch! I can’t wait to see what they come up with this time!!

THIS COULD BE MY WORST NIGHTMARE!!

After the amazing year Adam Driver has just had, with a plethora of films being released, I took a look at his IMDB page to see what he’s up to for the next year.

My previous post has already discussed a movie, currently in pre-production, called The Last Duel.
However, IMDB also list a film called ‘Annette’, and this one is currently in post-production.

Now, I’ve known about this film for some time, and it’s become a little notorious with the leading lady changing hands several times.
Rihanna and Rooney Mara were both cast but both dropped out. Michelle Williams was cast but had to drop out when the project got stuck in development. Kristen Stewart was also offered the lead but thankfully she declined because she thinks she can’t sing. The lead finally went to Marion Cotillard.

I am over the moon that Kristen Stewart declined. I make no bones about the fact that I can’t stand her as an actress and can’t think of a worse leading lady for Adam.

Anyway, I digress.
The description of this film has always intrigued me.

IMDB states…..

A stand-up comedian and his opera singer wife, have a 2 year old daughter with a surprising gift.

1 – Adam as a stand-up comedian.
2 – Adam as a daddy is always good.

But last night I was a little bored and I started to read a little bit more.
When I got to the trivia section, one statement stood out.

The film features no dialogue, but is instead a sung-through musical.

No, no, no, no, no, noooooooo!!!!!

Now don’t get me wrong, I like a good musical.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Calamity Jane, Singing in the Rain, type musicals. Dialogue interspersed with songs.

What I am not fond of are musicals that are entirely sung, a la Les Mis!

The only thing I am clinging onto now is the fact that after seeing Adam in ‘Marriage Story’, I know Adam can actually hold a tune! He may not be a technically great singer but he can belt out a show tune and actually stay IN tune!

As a stan of Adams, I know I will go and see this film.
So far he hasn’t done anything I’ve hated. In fact most of his stuff is quirky and fun or exciting or downright Oscar worthy!

I will hold my view of this film until I have actually seen it.
I’m a little bit nervous.

HOW DO I FEEL ABOUT THIS ONE?

After seeing some of the costumes in The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, I’ve been wanting to see Adam as the lead in a costume drama.

He’s been listed as a cast member on on a film called ‘The Last Duel’ on IMDB for a while now, but the character he was playing has never been revealed.

IMDB states….

King Charles VI declares that Knight Jean de Carrouges settle his dispute with his squire by challenging him to a duel.

It has finally been announced that Adam will be playing the squire, Jacques LeGris opposite Matt Damon as Jean de Carrouges.
The film itself is based on a true story, so I decided to Google it.

Sir Jaques Le Gris was a french squire and knight who gained fame and infamy when he engaged in the last judicial duel permitted by the Parlement of Paris after he was accused of rape by the wife of his neighbour and rival Sir Jean de Carrouges. This all took place in the late 1300s in France.
Le Gris is described as a large and physically imposing character, which is spot on for Adam.
He is also said to have had a reputation for womanising! Something which he touched on in ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’ and something I would love to see more of! Getting Adam totally out of his comfort zone.

Ben Affleck is also tied to the project, and Ridley Scott is Directing, so Adam is getting another great director under his belt!

So it looks like I am getting my wish to see Adam in historical costume com true. The only downside is that, having read the real story, I know how this one will turn out for Adam’s character. Why can’t he have a happy ending for once?!!!

All in all, I’m quite intrigued and look forward to see this one next Christmas.

POWERFUL STUFF

I have just watched BlacKkKlansman again and I still rate this as one of the best films of the last decade.

I will always remember watching it for the first time at the cinema.
The film takes a serious subject that is still relevant today, and shows it in a way that makes it thought provoking, but in a humorous, not in a bad taste way. It has an amazing cast and acting that got Adam Driver his first Oscar nomination for supporting actor.

BUT…..

The thing I remember most about that screening was the ending.
4 minutes of some of the most powerful film I have ever watched.
It shocked the audience into complete silence.
The credits rolled and not a word was spoken as people left the cinema.
It was actually quite spooky and I can honestly say that watching that last 4 minutes of film again, still brings me to tears.

I’ll just leave this here……

ACTOR OF THE DECADE

On January 9th, the Hollywood Critics Association Awards took place and Adam Driver was awarded ‘Actor of the Decade!’
They have just released this lovely little montage of work, and it struck me when I finished watching it that there isn’t a single piece of work in it that I haven’t seen, in fact, I own every one of the films used!

If I were forced to pick a favourite, I don’t think I could!! It would all depend on my mood at the time.

One of my go to feel good movies is ‘This is where I leave you’
If I’m looking to be emotionally moved, it has to be ‘Marriage Story’
If I’m looking for simple or thought provoking, it’s ‘Patterson’ or ‘Blackkklansman’
If I want a laugh, it’s ‘Logan Lucky’
The film I find myself going back to more than anything is ‘Hungry Hearts’

I haven’t even mentioned ‘What If’ ‘Midnight Special’ or ‘Silence’…. I could go on.

Anyway, this award is on top of the 31 wins, and counting so far, for ‘Marriage Story’ this awards season!!

The two big ones are coming up in the BAFTAs, for which he has already got a nomination for best actor and the Oscars, which will be announced on Monday.

His competition at the moment is Joaquin Phoenix.
They have both racked up between 40 and 50 nominations each this season for ‘Marriage Story’ and ‘Joker’.

Crucially, Adam has actually won a staggering 31 so far and Joaquin has only won 7.

BUT…

Joaquin took the first of the big ones with the Golden Globe.
So it literally is anyone’s game at the BAFTAs and (hopefully) the Oscars.

HOW DID I MISS THIS?

I came across this little nugget today as I waste my day off sat on the computer. Yeah, this is my fourth post today, I’m a little bored, can you tell.

Anyway, I stumbled across a mashup from the Funny or Die crew.
Let me explain it.

It takes a scene from Girls, I show that I love, where the character Adam Sackler, a budding actor played by Adam Driver, is showing a TV show he’s just had a part in, to two friends. They are commenting on his performance and Adam Sackler is reacting to them. Knowing how Adam Driver ‘hates’ to watch himself in anything, his reactions are absolutely HIM!
However, they have cleverly cut the scene to make it look like they are watching him in The Force Awakens and it’s hysterical.

MY INTEREST IS PIQUED!

I’m not a huge lover of the Great British Bake Off. I’ve watched a few episodes with the kids and enjoyed them but I wouldn’t go out of my way to clear my schedule or binge watch them. The celebrity ones do get a bit more of my attention though, and I’ve just seen the line up for this years Celebrity GBBO. The list is as follows…..

American actor, Richard Dreyfuss

Documentary maker, Louis Theroux

British tennis number one, Johanna Konta

TV presenter, Carol Vorderman

Queer Eye fashionista, Tan France

Singer songwriter, James Blunt

Actress and TV presenter, Caroline Quentin

TV presenter, Alex Jones

OMG!! What a line up.
First of all, Russell Howard and Joel Dommett. These two are going to be frickin hilarious.

Rob Rinder! Has he ever cooked anything in his life? He is going to be hysterical.

Tan France. I just love the Queer Eye crew.

But Richard Dreyfuss!! Are you kidding me. How did they pull that one out of the bag.

Yep, I can safely say, I’ll be setting this series on to record.
