After 2 long years of waiting, speculating and theories, the torture is finally over, only to be replaced by the knowledge that we are in for another torturous wait of two years for the finale!!
And this time it REALLY is going to be torturous!
I could have cried when I reset my countdown clock.
So, after seeing The Last Jedi twice, I think it’s about time I set down my thoughts.
I think it’s fair to say that there will be spoilers so if you haven’t seen the movie please don’t go any further.

I’m serious, don’t go any further if you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want to be spoiled.

OK, if you’ve carried on reading after that warning, I have no sympathy for you.
The Last Jedi is absolutely bloody amazing!!
It was completely worth the wait.
I love the fact that for two years people have been arguing about ‘who’ Snoke was and ‘who’ Rey’s parents are, and in the end, Snoke was quite literally a nobody (unless there is something to surprise us in episode IX) and most importantly Rey’s parents were nobodies. ‘Junk traders who sold her off for drinking money’. Rey is a nobody!!
This film has everything. Action, drama, humour and a smouldering love triangle.
Yes, a love triangle.
Kylo Ren, Rey and Ben Solo.
Let me explain. Rey finds out a lot more about who Kylo is and what made him the way he is and she softens.
She sees the possibilities in him. She wants to see Kylo disappear and Ben Solo return.
They are bonded through the force.
They keep ‘hooking up’ for quick chats.
Kylo softens when talking to Rey and looks like a kicked puppy!! (be still my heart)
It’s quite clear that Rey sees ‘Ben’ when they talk and Kylo drops his harsh ‘Kylo’ side and becomes ‘Ben’.
She see’s and falls in love with ‘Ben’.
When they touch hands during one of these force Skypes, they both see a future of them together.
I speculate at this point as I think Rey sees a future with Ben in the Light but Kylo sees a future with Rey as they both rule the Galaxy in the dark.
I think that episode IX will see them having to come to terms with the fact that they must work together if they want to ‘be’ together, neither light or dark, we will see the rise of the ‘grey’ jedi.
Balance!!
The best scene in the entire movie was the moment they ‘teamed’ up to take out 8 praetorian guards!!
And then Kylo spoils it by asking her to join him to rule the galaxy together!!
Holding out his hand, Kylo even ‘pleads’ with her.
Rey’s response is to turn him down and leave him. She wants Ben and not Kylo, and she is distraught by her decision!
I lOVE the way they are taking these two.
But I’m gettting carried away.
The rest of the film is incredible.
The battle scenes are out of this world.
The battle on Crait was a work of art.
The planet is made up of red crystals and covered in a white salt layer so when the surface is broken with explosions there is literally an explosion of colour.
The contrast of the red on the white is stupendous. I’ve never seen anything like it before.
The space battles are phenominal but I’d expect nothing less from a Star Wars movie.
The destroyers, the Dreadnaught, the Supremacy! The First Order ships were beautiful.
I may be a little biased as I love anything Imperial/First Order.
Canto Bight is OK but the Fathiers are beautiful!
The island of Ahch-to is stunning.
The keepers are funny and they really don’t like Rey! but the Porgs steal the show.
The scene where Chewbacca has killed and grilled a couple of them is hilarious.
The look on their faces as they plead with Chewbacca is the ‘aaahh’ moment of the movie.
Kids are going to go crazy over the porgs.
The characters.
I already told you what I thought about Kylo and Rey.
Leia is simply beautiful. She has gone out on a high, although I really want to see how they deal with her ‘disappearance’ in episode IX. The fact that we finally have confirmation about how strong she is with the force was amazing.
Poe remains the cocky pilot and will be a worthy leader in the next film.
He’s certainly not afraid to stand up for what he believes is right.
Finn and Rose make a wonderful couple. Rose was a brilliant newcomer and summed up where the films are going in one simple quote.
” This is how we’re going to win. Not by killing those we hate, but by saving those we love”
Before she kisses Finn and passes out.
Admiral Holdo!
Admiral Holdo is not what I expected.
Her character was played very well. We were made to kind of hate her before we realised that ‘actually’ she was doing what she was doing for the greater good.
She gave her life to save what was left of the rebellion.
General Hux!!
OMG!! This character did not go where I expected.
He certainly was the comic relief of the movie but there was also a hidden villainy.
You really had to feel sorry for him. Nothing went right for him.
The moment he realised what Admiral Holdo was doing was a picture.
I seriously thought he was going to throw up!!
But I came away happy.
Poor Hux may have had everything taken away from him, including respect, but at least he made it to the end of the movie!!
Rian Johnson did a fabulous job.
This film is incredible.
I can’t wait to see what JJ Abrams does with the finale.
It’s going to be an excruciating 2 years of waiting, speculating and theories.
I love JJ Abrams, I trust JJ Abrams.
That will be my mantra for the next 2 years.
BRING IT ON!!
