DISHETTE OF THE WEEK #5 – Lupita Nyong’o

I am shamefully bad at updating my Dishette of the Weeks and it has been far too long seeing this young lady get added to the list.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita 2

She came to my attention…. well everyone’s attention really, with her amazing oscar winning performance in 12 Years a Slave.

Lupita 1

When she hits the red carpet events it becomes clear that this young lady is quite the stunner!!

So it amazes me that she keeps getting voice or CGI work.
If you went to see Jungle Book, she was the voice of Raksha, the Mother wolf.

Lupita 8

If you went to see Star Wars The Force Awakens, she was the completely CGI character Maz Kanata. A role she has reprised for Episode VIII.

Lupita 9

Lupita 10

Thankfully she is now getting film roles outside of voice work and CGI.
Watch out for her in 2018 as she takes on the Marvel Universe in the Black Panther movie.

Lupita 11

This extremely beautiful and elegant woman is going to have an amazing career!

So what’s been happening over the last week?

Aside from relaxing, nothing much!!

We went to see Star Trek Beyond last weekend and it was AMAZING!!
I wouldn’t have expected anything less. I think another showing during this annual leave is a must.
I loved the fact that Sabotage by the Beastie Boys is used in one of the key scenes!
Not just as music for the scene but as a track that is specifically picked  by the team to achieve a certain objective!! Classic!

I managed to get out into the back garden before the weather got a little too wet. I can now sit in it and not fret about it.
It’s never going to be great. I simply don’t have the time to look after it enough but at least it’s now tidy again.
I now have to tackle the 10 foot hedge in the front garden when the weather dries up!

Anyway, with the rain over the last few days, it gave me a great excuse to sit at my computer and chill a little.
I’ve been getting into a series on Netflix called Bloodline. Here’s a first. I got into this because of an actor in a film I haven’t even seen yet!!
Ben Mendelsohn, who happens to be this cool looking dude in Rogue One this Xmas.

Krennic 2

Bloodline is a steady paced show with a big dark secret that I’m desperate to find out about!!

All this time on my hands gave me a great excuse to write another fic!!
My husband came up with a bit of an idea and I ran with it.
Angel on my Shoulder.
3 chapters this time.
Another Kylux fic but no smut this time. Just lots of fluff and angst and mutual worry and a decidedly big decision to make on Kylo’s part.
I loved writing it.
If you’re interested you can read it HERE.

Tonight I may curl up with a book. A real book.
Star Wars: Aftermath, Life Debt.
Set immediately after Return of the Jedi.
Interesting start. I want to see where it goes.

What have I still to look forward to?
Batman vs Superman on Bluray on Monday
Suicide Squad – midnight showing on Thursday
Anniversary – 22 years on Saturday
Midnight Special – Bluray on  the 8th – ADAM DRIVER!!!
Tons more time on the PC chilling. Might just have time for another fic if I can come up with another story idea.

OK, time to get back to this bottle of wine and some more Bloodline.

A few months ago I noticed that a production of The Rocky Horror Show was coming to the MK Theatre. So I decided to treat two of my girls.

I love Rocky Horror!!

I first saw it years ago when my boss took us out for a treat.
London, front row centre stage to see Anthony Stewart Head as Frank N Furter!

The next time was another production in MK.
This time Jonathan Wilkes took the role of Frank N Furter.

Rocky Horror Jonathan Wilkes

However, Liam Tamne in last nights production was amazing!!

Rocky Horror 3

Rocky Horror is not my husband’s kind of thing.
He suffered through the Jonathan Wilkes one a few years ago and I think it scarred him for life, so I knew he wouldn’t go again.

However, I absolutely knew that Murron would love it.
She’s 18 going on 19 and has loved The Rocky Horror film for years but Marjorie is only 16 going on 17 and has NEVER even seen the film. So innocent. She had no idea!
She is however, taking media and film studies at college later this year and LOVES getting involved with the technical side of stage productions.
I thought this would be a great learning experience all round for her!!

Rocky Horror girls

The evening started with a drive to MK.
The weather was great so we got the top down on the car and rocked our little hearts out to Panic at the Disco all the way!
Seriously addicted to Panic at the moment!

Anyway, we had a lovely dinner before heading over to the theatre to do some people watching, which is one of the best things about Rocky Horror.
Marjorie had no idea what she was in for bless her and her eyes were wide with wonder as the people who had dressed for the occasion started arriving.
Especially the men!

Only Murron could go to a theatre 30 minutes from home and bump into a couple of guys she knows from around town!!

Rocky Horror Murron

She also knew the actress playing Roxy who showed us to our seats.

The show was amazing and Marjorie actually ended up thoroughly enjoying it.

Rocky Horror 1

I can safely say that we’ll do it again the next time it comes around!!

As I sit here on my first day of annual leave it strikes me that I have 18 days all to myself.
Me time.
Family time.

As much as I love my job and work with an amazing bunch of people, there comes a time when a break is needed and after the last week, I think I definately need it.

So! What’s the plan?

Well today is going to be a kick the house into shape day.
Bit of a shop at Tesco and then this evening we’re off out to see Star Trek Beyond!!
So looking forward to it. I can see multiple viewings ahead in the next few weeks although it’s going to have to be something incredible to beat my viewing record which stands at 10 cinema trips for Star War the Force Awakens.

The garden needs to be kicked into shape in the next few days so that I can relax and sit in it and enjoy it.

Monday evening I’m going to MK with two of my girls to see The Rocky Horror Picture show at the MK theatre.

1st of August sees the release of Batman vs Superman on Bluray.

5th of August sees Suicide Squad arrive at the cinema. FINALLY!!
We have midnight tickets for the 4th to see that one and two of the girls are coming with us!

6th of August we reach 22 years of marriage. Which means I have spent 25 years with my best friend. Nothing planned yet but I can see the usual dinner and a movie date coming.

8th August sees Midnight Special released on bluray (ADAM!!!)

The rest of the time is going to be spent just pottering around and enjoying down time.
doing mundane things in my own time.

Time to get started doing nothing!!!

Holy moly!!
I’ve have just chilled and watched a film called A Single Man.

OMG!! I did not know I needed this film in my life.
It is stunnningly heart wrenching.

Starring Colin Firth, Matthew Goode, Nicholas Hoult and Julianne Moore, it tells the story of an English Professor (Firth) in the 1960’s. One year after the sudden death of his boyfriend of 16 years (Goode)
It is set during one single day as he is obviously preparing himself for suicide as he struggles to cope and the events throughout the day that bring memories and realisations to the ultimate and achingly heartbreaking conclusion.

The use of colour is breathtaking as it fades from very muted colours to extremely vivid colours when something beautiful happens or is thought about and then it fades back again as the reality of the day sinks back in.

I was a bit of a mess when it ended. I’m so glad I was on my own!!
Of course I immediately logged onto Amazon and bought the Bluray. This one definately needed adding to the collection.

I have, according to my kids committed a cardinal sin!

Let me explain.

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music, I always have.
My first single was the theme music to my favourite TV show, Black Beauty!
It still gives me chills. It’s a beautiful piece of music.

My first album was given to me by my Aunty Kim and was the Bay City Rollers.
As a Teen it was Adam and the Ants and Duran Duran.
There were other interests thrown around like INXS and David Bowie, The Who.
I collected movie albums with regular trips to Tower Records in London when I was earning my own money.

With lots of family gatherings, I got to love all the golden oldies of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s
However, rock has always been my thing.

I went through years of sticking with what I know and love and then recently I started to catch the odd song on the radio or that My eldest daughter was listening to and I became intrigued. Songs from movies are now really important.
Daft Punk, Simon and Garfunkel, Coldplay, Adele.

There have been a few songs that I’ve fallen in love with like ‘House of Gold’ by Twenty One Pilots. Bit of a strange video.

‘Take Me to Church’ by Hozier. Bit of a disturbing video!!

But what has taken me completely by surprise over the last few weeks is how much I have fallen in love with Panic at the Disco!!

It’s not just the odd song either.Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die and Death of a Bachelor are two of the greatest albums I ever listened too!
It could have something to do with the fact that Brendon Urie is one of the most amazing singers I’ve ever heard. His range is amazing. A modern day crooner.

It was very hard to just post 4 video links here. I could have gone on and on and on.

If I were a teenager, I think that Panic at the Disco would be my band of choice.

However, back to the cardinal sin of the title.
I like to create CD’s to play in my car and completely rock out to.
Like I said earlier in the post, I have eclectic tastes. It really doesn’t bother me what kind of a mix I put together as long as I like the songs and I can sing along.
I was in the car with one of my daughter’s earlier rocking out to Panic at the Disco and Twenty One Pilots and then a song came on that my daughter took complete offence to.

What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction.

I’m not a One Direction fan but I LOVE this track!!
Apparantly having it on the same CD as Panic at the Disco and Twenty One Pilots is an absolute NO NO!! She freaked!

I still don’t know where I went wrong.
I only put together a CD I enjoy.
Please explain!

I wasn’t planning on blogging because I really haven’t felt up to much over tha last few days.
Anyway, after what happened today I just had to get a quick blog in.

Marjorie had a job interview today and only went and got it!!
I’m so proud. Only 3 weeks out of school.
It’s a McDonalds job. 20 hours a week and will be flexible for her when she starts college in September. Perfect!!
She has a welcome day tomorrow evening. It’s all going so fast!
She’s super excited.

Anyway, that’s the the high for the week.
The low is me.

Igot sent home from work yesterday feeling really odd.
Trembly hands and legs like jelly. High blood pressure.
I had to get Ian out of work to come get me as they weren’t happy with me driving.
It’s not the first time I’ve felt like that over the last few weeks but never quite to that degree.
So I got myself to the walk in centre to see a nurse who was worried enough to book me in with a Dr this morning.
I have to go for a fasting blood test tomorrow morning but other thank that, she couldn’t really pinpoint much.
We had a long conversation and she thinks that although I’m generally relaxed and happy, the situation with Ian’s new job role and the loss in wages having a knock on effect with finances that are only going to get harder for the next few months, may be effecting me stress wise and playing on my mind. This could be my body’s way of telling me to stop worrying.

So there you have it.
A high and a low.

Let’s see what life can throw at me next.

I do have a couple of weeks of annual leave starting on Saturday.
Just over 2 weeks to do as I please.
Star Trek and Suicide Squad!!! Rocky Horror in MK on Monday with my girls.
But mostly taking some time for me and my garden.
I hate looking at my garden at the moment. I simply haven’t had time for it this year and it’s so overgrown. A couple of days in the garden at the beginning of the annual leave so I can enjoy the garden for the rest of it will be worth the effort.
