Month: June 2016

Yet again, Tumblr delivers!!!!
A huge thank you to @adamndriver for pointing me in the direction of a digital copy of Not Waving But Drowning.
The last piece I just had to see in the Adam Driver jigsaw puzzle of back catalogue of work.

Now, how was the film?

I have to say that at the end of the day it wasn’t really my type of film.
Apart from the scenes involving Adam, I couldn’t sit through it as a whole piece again.
It was trying to be a little too artsy for my liking.

The film starts with an odd mini film entitled ‘The Most Girl Part of You’ and tells the story of a boy in the days following his mothers suicide and how his relationship with his best friend Amy develops. Their childhood disappears.
Sweet little film, if a little bit disturbing!!

Not waving but drowning tells the story of 2 girls, close friends, who had plans to go to New York together.
It doesn’t go to plan, only one makes it to New York and the other gets left behind at home. They are seperated for the first time in their lives and expectations about life and growing up are tested.
Phone conversations are the friends only connection over the summer.

Adele, the one that makes it to New York, quickly has her dreams dashed as nothing goes to plan but she does end up striking up an odd friendship with a work colleague, Adam… played by Adam Driver.

The whole film was, for me, a little bit soul destroying.
How many young people fly the nest to seek out their dreams only to get them smashed into the ground before they really get a chance to take off?

No, not a film I could seriously watch again.
For me the highlight was undoubtedly Adam!!
I know, I’m biased, but seriously, this guy never puts a foot wrong in anything he does.

In this film he plays Adam, a socially awkward young man who plucks up the courage to ask Adele out. He’s honest and sweet and feels like a very lonely character.
Things seem to be going along nicely for the pair and then she pulls the rug out from under him! There’s nothing nasty in the way she does it, the scene is very sweet, set in the middle of Central Park. She just takes a casual dump all over his feelings.

Adam is mega cute in this film and you just want to give him the biggest hug by the end of it.
I went a little bit silly with some caps this morning.

Overall, not the most riveting film I’ve ever watched but Adam makes it worth it!!

I can’t believe it.
Did we really just make that decision.

The hubby came in and told me to check out the Somerset house Film 4 movie season.
He swore blind he saw Ex-Machina in the advert and he was right!!

Turns out that Ex-Machina and the original Robocop are scheduled to air on our anniversary on the 6th August.
Great we thought.
Then we found out the price. Just short of £23 per ticket.
No seating is provided. You are welcome to bring blankets but no chairs of any kind are permitted.
As an outdoor event there’s no guarantee of weather either.
Then we have to think about travel and possibly a night’s stay somewhere.

Stuff it. The decision was made.
We have both movies on Bluray, a 55 inch tv and sound bar to watch them on, the comfort of our own sofa, no chance of rain, a fridge we can stock with booze and a cupboard stocked with nibbles.
August 6th is already a done deal…… at home.
Just have to palm the kids off on Nanny!!

Now I’m really beginning to feel my age!!!

So I finished my chores and noticed that the sun had disappeared and the sky was beginning to look a little grey.
I held off getting any electrical equipment out for a while and sure enough, it’s started to bloody rain.

It’s as if the universe knows just when I want to try and get the garden done and says.. NOPE… not happening today.

So just what am I going to do now then?
A film you say?
‘Unbroken’ maybe with Domhnall Gleeson all heroic and angsty…. OH GO ON THEN!!

The sun is out.
That can only mean one thing….. I’m going to have to tackled the grass in the front garden.
It is quite literally up to my hips. Every time I have wanted to do it in the last few weeks it’s decided to rain but today is looking promising.
I just need to motivate myself a little.

I’ve spent the morning writing again!!
My little piece of fan fiction that I posted on AO3 the other day has had some promising feedback and I felt inspired to write the story from a different perspective.
That’s exactly what I did this morning.

Again, for anyone interested, you can follow THIS LINK to read it.
If you missed the first part you can follow THIS LINK to read it.

My only warning is that if you are uncomfortable with male only relationships then the stories aren’t for you. There’s no intimacy details or even a single kiss in either of the stories but they are male only based.

So that’s my fun over with for today.
Time to think about some chores and that blasted garden!!

So, I’m in the middle of three days off.
So far very relaxing although it wasn’t meant to be.
The two main jobs I had to do were hack down the jungle in the front garden and clean both of the cars.
However, the weather has had other ideas and put paid to both plans.

Yesterday I sorted my mop of hair our with a good scalping followed by a discreet covering of the greys. It’s shorter than I’ve been for a long time. The hairdresser couldn’t get much shorter without using clippers!!
It’s great for early mornings. Literally wash and go. No need to style dry.
That evening we went to the cinema and watched Independence Day: Resurgence which was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

Today I was dragged into town by Dharma who wanted to spend her birthday money.
We had a quick visit from an old friend and took delivery of a new fridge freezer after the old one died a long and painful death over the previous week.
That on top of my car failing it’s MOT put the final nail in the coffin of any hope of anyone other than myself going to Italy for my Brother’s wedding next year.

After having a bit of a chat with a friend on Tumblr yesterday who suggested I should try some writing, I had an idea rattle around in my head over night and I decided to get it put into words.
I ended up writing a 1000 word piece of Kylux fluff and completely surprised myself.

For anyone interested you can follow THIS LINK to read it.
Don’t worry, it’s purely fluff. There isn’t even a kiss involved.
It’s called ‘Proximity Alert’ and it’s set in the week immediately after the destruction of Starkiller Base in Star Wars the Force Awakens.
It’s only been up for a few hours and has already had 66 hits, 11 Kudos and a couple of very encouraging comments, one of them from Solohux who is the author of the very first piece of Kylux fiction I ever read and who encouraged me to write this.
I just need to have another idea now!!!

Tomorrow I will be watching the next installment of Outlander on Prime before taking my Mum up to the cemetary to see Nan and Uncle Richard and Aunty Lesley.
Hopefully the weather will have improved enough to at least get the cars cleaned in the afternoon so my three days off won’t have been a total wash out.

I think I can safely say that I am a Star Wars fan.
Not that that is much of a surprise to ‘anyone’ who knows me.

As much as I hate having to wait so long for certain films to arrive, I also love the build up that comes with it.

I love all the internet hype and I absolutely love reading the theories that fans come up with.

However, I have noticed a change in my particular area of interest.
There seems to have been a definate swing to the dark side.

As a kid/teenager my interest was ALWAYS Han Solo.
Forget Luke Skywalker, I went with the scoundrel.

Han Solo 4

Growing up my loyalty was with the rebels and the Jedi’s.
Then when the prequels came along, I slowly began to lose myself to the dark side.
Hayden Christensen couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag (IMO…sorry) but boy did he look good as Anakin Skywalker!!!

Anakin 1

Anakin 2

Anakin 3

I wasn’t exactly disappointed with the prequels, well actually maybe I was.
They simply didn’t feel like Star Wars.
They were bloated and arrogant and relied way to heavily on CGI specials effects.
They are OK as films but I can’t go back to them time and time again like I can with New Hope, Empire and Jedi.

Then we had a bit of a dry period before Disney took over.
Along came the first part in a new trilogy that promised so much.
And it delivered!!!

I completely lost myself to the dark side with this bad boy!! Kylo Ren.

Kylo Ren 4

and a smattering of this bad boy…. General Hux, who became the most prolific killer in Star Wars history when he ordered the firing of Starkiller Base and took out 5 planets in the Hosnian System!!

The Force Awakens. Set exactly 30 years after Return of the Jedi brought every fan to their knees!!
It was amazing.
They got it sooooo right. The whole feel was definately Star Wars. It felt like it ran smoothly from Return of the Jedi. They used practical special effects and enhanced them with CGI. It was sleek and beautiful.
Original fans were gobsmacked but ultimately pissed off when their ultimate hero from the original trilogy, Han Solo, was killed off by Kylo….. his own son!!

Kylo Han
As we eagerly await the next episode in the story I have been gently ‘pushed’ into reading some Star Wars fanfiction.
However, that push landed me right in the middle of the Kylux trash compactor!!

My two favourite bad boys being very BAAAD BOYS!!!!

Anyway!! Not only are Disney delivering the new trilogy episode by episode every two years, they are giving us some stand alone movies.
The first of which is Rogue One due out this Xmas.
A Star Wars film every year for the foreseable future!!!

Rogue One is set directly before A New Hope and tells the story of the team that steals the plans for the first Death.
Entertainment Weekly released lots of new images and information this week.
They confirmed that Darth Vader does indeed appear in this movie, with James Earl Jones reprising his role as the commanding voice of Vader.

They also released more images of Director Krennic. The character that caught my eye in the first trailer played by Ben Mendelsohn.

Krennic 3

Krennic 2

This smooth looking dude apparantly doesn’t get on particularly well with Darth Vader!!
I simply can’t wait to find out more about him.

They also released some stunning images of Stormtroopers and Deathtroopers.

Stormtroopers Sea 2

Stormtroopers Sea 1

Deathtroopers 1

Deathtroopers 2

This film is looking more and more incredible by the day.
With the Star Wars Celebration event next month I’m desperately hoping they release a new trailer.
I am definately losing myself to the dark side and I really don’t care!!

I seem to have a thing for the bad guys.
Can’t help myself.

After seeing the Rogue One Trailer, one character stood out of the crowd.

Forget the heroes, forget the rebellion.
The guy in the white uniform and cloak was who caught my eye.
This rather cool looking dude.

Rogue One 2

OMG!! Are we actually getting a Grand Admiral?
Turns out his character is called ‘Director Krennic’ and today, Entertainment Weekly announced a little more information about him.

Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn)

On the opposing side, this villain is an ambitious Imperial apparatchik who intends to use his squad of Deathtroopers to pulverize the Rebel uprising and ascend into the Emperor’s graces – while hopefully avoiding the wrath of his enforcer, Darth Vader. “The bad guy is a lot more terrifying when he’s really smart, and really effective,” says Knoll. “There is a lot of palace intrigue going on in the Empire, with people conspiring to move up the ranks and sabotaging each other. There’s not a lot of loyalty there.”

So! He’s going to be one cool customer and hopefully a villain to get your teeth into!!

And we’ve still got 5 months to wait!!! ARRGH!!!
