I’ve just taken the BBC 7 days in the news quiz.
I didn’t do particularly well, scoring just 3 out of 7!
A few years ago it would have been 7 out of 7.
I’ve realised recently that when I’m on my computer I am in a totally different world.
I forget about everything going on around me and totally immerse myself in another life.
Reality, and therefore the news, has taken a back seat.
It occurs to me that my obsession with films and TV is also another way to escape into another world, albeit very briefly.
Is it any wonder?
My life is not actually so bad, I have a solid marriage, 3 beautiful if a little ‘trying’ kids, a roof over my head and a steady job.
But whenever I go to the BBC news website to catch up on what is going on in the world I see nothing but war and hate and greed.
Oh yes…. and death!
There is always someone who has died….. daily….. it’s depressing!!
This week alone we’ve already seen the demise of Mickey Rooney, Peaches Geldof and Sue Townsend.
So, when I go on and on and on and on about a person or a show or a movie, it’s simply my way of making my own particular world a slightly happier place.
I want to be surrounded by things that make me smile and not concentrate on things I cannot change or that make me sad.
Life is too short.
So today (for the last 8 weeks to be precise)…. This is what makes me smile.
