I’ve just been to see the remake of Robocop and I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed it!!
Gone is the the whole cheezy feel of the original with it’s corny gags and quotes at every turn.
As much as I enjoyed the original back in the 80’s, it really hasn’t stood the test of time very well.
That’s not to say that I didn’t (don’t) enjoy the original.
I did and I still love Peter Weller’s Robocop.
It’s just the whole dated feel of the script and the effects and unlike gems like Bladerunner, the film just doesn’t work in the same way anymore.
This remake is a lot more serious and a lot more slick in it’s finish.
Joel Kinnaman does a brilliant job as Robocop.
The only real comedy is supplied by the ever brilliant Samuel L Jackson and his TV show for the masses, and it works.
The sympathy factor for Murphy is wracked up a notch and you do feel really sorry for him in this and you root for him just that little bit more.
It was good to see Michael Keaton on screen again and Gary Oldman, as always, never puts a foot wrong!
There are little homages to the original throughout but particularly from the start with the opening music.
Nicely done and brought a few hairs up on the back of my neck.
This is definately one I would go and see again and it is definately being added to the Bluray want list.
