See what I did there?… ‘Who’ will the new Doctor be… yeah I know, that was really bad!
Anyway, for the foreseeable future we are going to have lots of speculation about just who is going to be the next Doctor.
I didn’t really get into Matt Smith.
I don’t think it was anything to do with Matt, I think he had lots of potential, I think he was just let down by some really shoddy writing and story lines!!
So bad that I literally gave up on watching the last series.
So maybe the question we should be asking is ‘Who will be writing and directing’ the next series?
Anyway, there are people out there that say the next Doctor should be ‘black’.
OK, I can go with that but two names have cropped up and personally I can’t see either of them in the role.
Paterson Joseph and David Harewood.
I don’t have any suggestions for a black Doctor myself but I see no reason why he shouldn’t be.
What he most definitely ‘should’ be is male!
There is talk about him becoming female and this would absolutely ‘kill’ the franchise.
Making the Dr Female would be the biggest mistake since losing Tennant.
So, who would I choose?
I have just three people in mind.
The first one on my list was also top of my list when they were looking for Tennant’s replacement.
After seeing him in Little Dorrit, The Three Musketeers and as Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice I can see him as a slightly older, bolshy and grumpy Doctor and maybe a little reminiscent of the Paul McGann Doctor who we sadly saw too little of.
Then there is Martin Freeman
A brilliant, quirky, funny actor who could inject the series with a lot of laughs but I think he’s so busy with his movie career and Sherlock at the moment it just wouldn’t be viable for him.
Finally we have Ben Wishaw
I’ve only seen him in Skyfall but I think he could be a brilliant, Geeky and stiff upper lipped Doctor.
So there you have it.
Who would you choose?
Will they be able to keep the identity under wraps until the Xmas special regeneration?
I doubt it, but I think the series survival is dependant on the right choice being made and ‘hopefully’ some new writers (with a knowledge of Dr Who) coming in.
