Dish of the Weeks

It’s time for a birthday boy and one who has been missed off of my Dish of the Weeks for far too long.

Robert Downey Jr.

He made his name in the late 80’s with films such as Weird Science, The pickup Artist and Less than Zero.
In Less than Zero he played Julian Wells, a drug-addicted rich boy whose life rapidly spirals out of his control.
This was a spooky look into Downey’s own future because at the height of his own career and after an Oscar nominated performance as Charlie Chaplin, from 1996 – 2001 Downey was arrested numerous times on drug-related charges including cocaine, heroine and marijuana.

At the time it was widely believed that Downey had thrown his career down the toilet.
After his release from rehab he wanted to get back into movies.
One man had faith in him.
Mel Gibson, who in 2003, paid Downey’s ‘Insurance Bond’ for the film ‘The Singing Detective’
This paved the way for Downey to take on regular film roles and ‘prove’ himself to the industry for the next 5 years.
Then in 2008 he hit the big time again with Iron Man.
He was suddenly hot news again and is currently enjoying the release of his third Iron Man movie, will be filming a second Avengers movie and has brought Sherlock Holmes to a whole new generation.
Unfortunately I can’t forgive him for Sherlock Holmes. 2 of the worst movies in history in my opinion but the masses have spoken and we will no doubt get a third one!
As for Iron Man, he was born to play Tony Stark!

So, happy birthday you gorgeous and extremely lucky man.
Don’t screw it up this time!!
