ESCAPISM

I’ve always been a big believer in the quote ‘reality is for people with no imagination’
I love to escape into a good film or TV series.
I am very eclectic when it comes to my choices too.
Films don’t always have to be intellectual and thought provoking, they can also be exciting and thrill busting and not need a lot of brain power to thoroughly enjoy.

I like to switch off in the evenings with a good dose of something from the film or TV genre.
Unfortunately just lately, things have been getting a little stale and predictable in the TV stakes.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love shows like CSI, all three of them, but after 10 years it’s all getting just a little bit predictable.

We’ve had some good new shows appear in the last couple of years like Castle and White Collar and Covert Affairs and these all seem to be holding their own with renewals into new seasons.

Occasionally we get let down though.
Occasionally a show will appear. It will be so innovative and thought provoking that narrow minded people and TV exectutives just can’t see it through to a renewal.
Shows like ‘Off The Map, Moonlight, Mercy, Miami Medical, Kyle XY, Surface, Invasion’, were all prematurely cancelled. They all had great potential and some were even left on a cliffhanger with no closure for the fans. They will forever be left wondering what happened.

This seems to be the fate of a current favourite. A Gifted Man is an amazing new show. It has been consistantly getting better and better with each new episode. However, on a quick scan through the internet to see how it’s been doing and if there is any sniff of renewal news I have been dissapointed to find out that most sites are predicting it’s cancellation. This is a real dissapointment. It’s a show that has really found a place in my weekly viewings. I rate it above ‘all’ of the CSI’s. I would love for it to continue for a few more years. Looks like I’m just going to have to wait a little while longer for an official stamp on whether or not it’s being renewed.

On the plus side though, another new show that has made it into my top ten is ‘Suits’
How cool is this show?
The good news is that it has already been given a second series so it’s looking good for at least the next year, but hopefully a few more.

With this year starting out in such a shitty way, I could well be depending on some of these shows to lift me out of a cloud for an hour or so every now and again.
